Charter Oak asst. principal Glenn Martinez named Asst. Commissioner of Athletics at the CIF-Southern Section …

Incoming CIF Southern Section Commissioner of Athletics Rob Wigod announced today that Charter Oak High School Vice-Principal Glenn Martinez has accepted the position of Assistant Commissioner of Athletics for the CIF-SS, effective August 15, 2011.
“I am very pleased to announce the selection of Glenn Martinez as the next assistant commissioner of the CIF-SS,” stated Wigod. “Glenn brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for high school education and athletics.”

Martinez replaces Wigod who takes the reins of the CIF-SS as Commissioner next Tuesday

Martinez has served as Vice Principal of Student Services and Athletics at Charter Oak since 2002. Martinez has taught at the school since 1998. Martinez also served as Varsity Baseball Coach for one year.

Prior to coming to Charter Oak Martinez taught and was athletic director at Bishop Amat High School from 1979 to 1998. Martinez also served as Head Baseball Coach for the Lancers during his 19 year tenure at the school.

During that time he compiled a 254-80-1 record, won seven league titles, was CIF-SS Division 1 runner-up in 1995 and claimed the division title in 1996.

Martinez also spent 15 years as a varsity assistant football coach for Bishop Amat where he helped lead the Lancers to two CIF-SS championships (1993 and 1995) and three runner-up plaques (1983, 1988 and 1994).

“I am truly excited,” stated Martinez. “This was my dream job and when Commissioner Wigod called me this morning to offer me the position he made my dreams come true, he added. “I am excited to be a part of the professional staff at the CIF-SS.”
