SGV Babe Ruth 18-under punches ticket to World Series; Ruiz, Garza earn national acclaim

The San Gabriel Valley Babe Ruth 18-under all-star baseball team beat defending champion Watsonville 5-4 on Tuesday to win the Pacific Southwest Regionals in Modesto, punching a ticket to the World Series, which starts Aug. 6 in Ephrata, Washington.
Glendora's Nick Wagner, the tournament MVP, belted a two-out single in the sixth that drove in Tartans teammate Martin Gallegos for the game-winning run, sending the SGV to the Babe Ruth World Series for the second time in three years.
The SGV team has plenty of familiar names, including Glendora's John Alexander, Brennan Salgado, Nick Wagner, Sean Beckman; Bishop Amat pitcher Daniel Zamora, Bonita's Adam McCreery and Walnut's Bryce Harrison.

ALL-AMERICANS: Bishop Amat's Rio Ruiz and Bonita's Justin Garza continue piling up postseason awards after spectacular junior seasons. Both were named underclassmen all-americans by ESPN RISE and MaxPreps.

Justin and Rio are having a blast this summer playing baseball together. Both on the Sr. Babe Ruth team and Area Codes. Both of these boys will dominate and be the center of attention on their respective teams. The talent level this year falls short and Justin and Rio will stand far above all others in the valley, much less their own teams.

How can you guys mess up that bad. That's a photo of lefty McCreery not Garza unless all the other photos are wrong also. But I see you got Ruiz right.

LA Times has reported Justin Garza has committed to CSF next year. If Kenny Mathews does not sign a professional contract perhaps in 2 years both Garza and Mathews will be in the starting rotation.
