Amat’s Zamora commits to Stony Brook

Bishop Amat’s Daniel Zamora, who began the 2011 prep baseball season as one of coach Andy Nieto’s Johnny Wholestaff before transforming into staff ace by season’s end, has giving an oral commitment to Division I Stony Brook University, which is located just outside New York City.
Zarmoa was a key member of the Lancers’ chase to the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 title, combining with David Berg for a 7-0 victory over Palm Desert in the championship game.
The senior-to-be, who helped San Gabriel Valley advance to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Washington, went 9-1 with a 1.43 ERA in helping Bishop Amat to a 29-4 record.
Zamora will join former Lancer Brandon McNitt, who was a freshman All-American for the Seawolves this past season. Stony Brook won a school-record 42 games this past season, but missed the NCAA Division I regionals after losing in the America East Conference tournament.
