Summer question of the day: If Monrovia, West Covina, Charter Oak and South Hills were in the semifinals of the Tribune playoff division, who comes out on top?

    Great topic Fred,
This year, tough to tell before the first couple of games, those would all be great games.
CO; loaded with skill players and the best looking passing league qb and offense over the summer, don’t know enough about their O line concernig their run game or the D line stopping the other teams run game.
Monrovia; also loaded with skill players, Ellis McCarthy will need two men on him the whole year, George Frazier I hear is a stud linebacker, will the rest of the team be physical enough to handle teams like Glendora or South Hills.
South Hills; I think they will be a sleeper in the SGV, I think they will be much better than last year, would not suprise me at all if they make the playoffs this year in the Sierra league.
West Co; Bulldogs will replace most of their O-line, and is breaking in some new QB’s, also breaking in some inside linebackers with the loss of Dupleassis and Paez, the kids stepping in to fill the voids look good enough, I could see this being a very good team if they limit mistakes, stay hungry, spread the ball around, and take care of the ball, I think the qb situation will work itself out, should get a better clue these next few weeks with the pads on, I believe they start with pads today.
Who wins this mini tournament? Last year West Covina wins this one easy. [LOL, I still get bragging rights till the season starts don’t I?]
This year the match ups look very competitive, with all the questionmarks going into the season any of these four teams on here look capable, interesting selection Fred, although I would throw Chino Hills, Glendora, and Damien in the poll too.

Why would you include Monrovia, this list should be for the big boys, where’s Amat, Chino Hills, Glendora or Damien….Monrovia should be in a group with Covina, San Dimas and Arroyo.

  • Observantcat

Dear Mr. Luther, before you go asking Fred where are these other teams you might just want to ask CIF where they are ranked in the area and in the State first. Dont worry about Monrovia, you can rank us however you want, We know who we are!

  • Amat Bully

Not even debatable CO would definitely come out on top. i only see monrovia challenging them to a tough game but in the end CO would prevail.

The better question is who would win between Chino Hills and Amat?

  • OldMan in Chino

    To Red Barron:

The results of a game between Bishop Amat and Chino Hills depends on how much stock you put in the predictions of Cal Preps and Massey Matchup. Per Cal Preps if the 2011 edition of Bishop Amat were to play the 2011 edition of Chino Hills, Amat would win 48 to 21. Massey Matchup has Amat winning 35 to 28 if the game were played on a neutral field, Amat would win 33 to 26 if Chino Hills hosted the game, and Amat would win 34 to 24 if Amat hosted the game. Of course the results could be different if the game was decided on the field of play as compared to what is expected based on computer projections. None the less it would a great game to watch.

    South Hills?
they cant even beat Diamond Ranch!

South Hills will be the Dark Horse in their league and will make it to the playoffs. I believe the Huskies will be a better team this year than last year, so don’t count them out yet.
