Who do you trust, Maxpreps or your local unbiased reporting team at the SGVN?

It you don’t trust Robledo, Tolegian or the biased bloggers on the thread, should you trust MaxPreps’ computer generated San Gabriel Valley preseason rankings, with teams ranked locally in parenthesis, and the Southern Section ranking next to it. You might be surprised. Charter Oak at No. 10? Bonita No. 4? Can Observant and New York live with Monrovia at No. 5? Or how about Rio Hondo Prep at No. 20, with no mention of Arroyo, Azusa, etc. Is Bishop Amat’s No. 5 ranking in the Southern Section (and state) a tad lofty? This is why we always say, trust your local sportswriters when it comes to area rankings, we know more than the computers do.

Below: Charter Oak isn’t doing cartwheels over these rankings? They might not be No. 1 in the Valley, but they’re certainly a lot higher than No. 10.

Bishop Amat has another excellent team. But ranked #5 is a bit too high…Maybe #10.

i trust during season rankings when games have been played so i would have to say the local bias paper, only because max preps is full of $#!+. think about it they have Monrovia, Damien,Bonita and etc, ranked higher than CO. and im pretty sure who ever does the rankings and things for max preps probably doesn’t even go out and check the teams out or send someone out before ranking them. im pretty sure they go off of past year performance and who left the schools. And i can’t believe they have Amat top 5 LOL and Alemany below them what a joke…..

  • Colt74

For a preseason ranking it looks pretty good. Although, rankings change and I won’t look at them semi serious until after preseason. Playoff rankings are the only ones I care about anyway. Otherwise it’s just another list…and that is just what we need in sports…more lists.

  • OldMan in Chino

Fred: The question of is Charter Oak ranked too low is an interesting one. Is your dissatisfaction of their placement on the list based upon past glories and championships earned when they were in a lower Division or what you expect them to be able to do this season? As to the placement of Chino Hills, are you in agreement with where MaxPreps placed them? I do know that Chino Hills has had successful post-season runs both when they were in the Central Division and in the Inland Division. The true question is are the evaluators from The SGV Tribune impartial and objective or are they swayed by the readership of the paper and they (the writers) have to walk a fine line of not casting successful teams in a negative light for fear of evoking the wrath of those who subscribe to the paper. Just asking.

  • AMAT 73

    valley guy,
You know darn well if these rankings had CO at 4 or somewhere between 6 and 20 you would be all over them as being right on par. I do agree 10 is too low but no higher than 5 with Bonita moving out of the 4 spot replaced by Monrovia , CO at 5 then Bonita at 6 . But as I have always said it’s where your ranked at the end of the season by CIF that really matters.

Outstanding Point of View! Computers don’t have subscribers!

Percentage wise I wonder what the computers winning guesses percentages of being correct compared to the warm bodies guesses are?

Both make for lively debate so I guess they serve what they are intended for.

  • San Dimas FB

    Fred,

Who do you trust, Maxpreps or your local “unbiased reporting” team at the SGVN? Anyone who thinks Aram is “Unbiased” against San Dimas is out of their mind. Fred, you have been fair with us, but you really need to talk to Aram when he’s done eating again!!!!

  • SaintsR4real

    San Dimas FB,

NICE!! I suggest, we allow Aram to contiue to guess at what he does, in order to watch him EAT CROW, as early as week 4!!

Notice how Aram “ROLLS” around the Covina area only, they must have the best TACOS ON WHEELS around!!

  • Aaron

CalPreps before MAXPREPS…and MAXPREPS before the reporters…computers can be wrong but coaches and writers have biases.

  • We need Computers for Data based Rankings, and Local Writers for the ” The Eye test, and Gut Feeling

Well this is a paradox. I think that both computers, and human rankings should be considered. Its far more probable that a computers, with a proven formula, would not be bias because a computer has no emotion, and no reason to be bias. It just calculates data and spits out a answer. However, the human factor, can be helpful, when it comes to the eye test, especially when you can see a team is Bigger Faster and has better players. But humans can be bias. But it can work for or against a teams ranking. Now with that being said, since strength of schedule is calculated in the Maxpreps formula, that disclaimer can be thrown out. Since Points scored and allowed, are factor in with schedule, that can be factored out as well. Now Charter oak of a few years ago, was clearly a physically superior team even though the were in a lower division. Their high ranking, was based upon the “Human Factor”. Now with the schedule they used to play, people would argue that they were not that good. But they were during their CIF runs. Now this year, they are playing in the inland, and they have a lower ranking in Maxpreps. Now remember Maxpreps has factored in their schedule, Record, and points scored and allowed and this is the ranking they have. Now, Fred and Aram, have ranked CO number 2 in the SGV. This ranking is based upon the human Factor. They feel that CO is just better than all of the lower teams, Despite the data. I agree CO is good, but I can not say they are physically superior, than the teams ranked ahead of them. Bonita, West Covina, Chino Hills, Monrovia, and Covina are just as Athletic as Charter Oak. Outside of Santiago, and Gilchrest, CO does not have clear cut advantages, at other positions, and may be at a disadvantage at some positions. If Charter Oak, was to play any of the teams ranked ahead of them, I think those games could go either way. I think these rankings are pretty good. They may be based more on what the teams had last year, but still these teams are going to do well in their leagues and Divisions, so we will just have to see. Aram and Fred and Miguel are pretty accurate in their rankings. They do have teams they like, and they do rank teams based on what they saw, who they have, and what they think they will do. They are humans, and not computers, so they have right to their opinion. No matter what, i don’t think they hold grudges when it comes to ranking teams. No matter how much they hate bloggers from Wilson or Pomona, they still ranked Ptwon fair this year, so I will give them that. Teams can Surprise you, and be alot better like last years Bonita squad. So we should consider maxprep rankings and our writers rankings as well. I don’t think either system is that far off. Head up games are very good for rankings, and common opponents. Bishop is still the clear cut number 1 around here, but I think Maxpreps ranks them too high on the state level. But then again, there is some politics behind that because, I think they want Servite to have a big win early. lol Jk.

  • QB Coach

Fred you and Aram most definitely have biases. Youre clearly influenced by things other than pure fact. You rationalized facts and information forming your opinions. Sharing your educated opinion is your job. Now some might say your opinions are not educated enough but hey you cant please everyonelol
Maxpreps is a balance of statistical data and biases but the biases are much further removed than local biases. They are not considering any of the local information like injuries and coaching changes.
Another view is Calpreps who present only a statistical view that is completely unbiased and not influenced by human rationalization or opinion at all. This is a bad way to go just and if you dont think so just compare it to Vegas. Vegas would be bankrupt is if they did rationalize the number and consider other influencessay like and injury.
My personal feeling is your local biases is much more entertaining than that of Maxpreps and I think you guys do a good job representing the prep football landscape in our area.

  • Jhykron

Cal/Maxpreps ratings are based on the Freeman equation… basically who beat who by how much taken to the nth degree. Since no one has actually played any games yet, the pre-season numbers they use are essentially fudged from last season’s ratings, adjusted by how many kids the program has coming back.

Bottom line: The objective ratings mean less than the “eye test” at this point.

  • FredJ

We’re biased toward winning teams, you’re right about that. But in all seriousness, I was poking fun at ourselves, but love how serious everyone is taking it.

  • Norco

I take Maxprepsrankings with a grain of salt…Norco coaches do not respond to these questionnaires that are sent out. Anyways a perfect example…Norco had Upland down 35-7 in the middle of the 3rd quarter when their JV cam e in to finish the game…Upland kept its starters in the remainder of the game to make the score 42-21…and even then Norco took four straight knees inside the 2yd line to end the game…And yet Upland is ranked ahead of Norco?

Now if you use the Massey ratings which the BCS uses….

    Norco is ranked :
    #21 Bishop Amat
#24 St. John Bosco ( hell they haven’t made the playoffs in FIVE yrs).
    #38 Tesoro
    #40 Norco
    #41 Chaminade
    #42 San Clemente
    # 46Chino Hills
    #47 Arroyo Grande
    #49 La Habra
#50 Orange Lutheran (Non playoff team)
    #52 Rancho Cucamonga
    #55 Loyola (Non playoff team)
    #67 West Covina
    # 76 Upland
    #79 St. Francis
    #89 Redlands East Valley
    #94 Dominguez
    #99 Canyon
    # 102 Bonita
    #129 Charter Oak
    #131 Monrovia
    #181 Damien

  • Joe Amat

When you think about it, the CalPreps rankings are pretty accurate from September thru 1st round of the playoffs. this is last years projection accuracy during that time throughout the state of California.

    245-95 (72.1%)
    313-131(70.5%)
    369-105 (77.8%)
    365-108 (77.2%)
    382-95 (80.1%)
    352-91 (79.5%)
    400-103 (79.5%)
    413-88 (82.4%)
    408-96 (81%)
    424-82 (83.8%)
    384-76 (83.5%)

So that doesn’t mean upsets couldn’t happen…but the probability sure isn’t there. Even at the worst – a 30% chance isn’t very good odds that CalPreps might be wrong.

    http://calpreps.com/2010/projection_accuracy.htm

    202-40 (83.5%)

Walnut over Diamond Bar and Diamond Ranch? Walnut will be lucky if they beat Los Altos and should be thankful Rowland is so down

Not sure about the validity of any of these ranking systems, but having Bonita ranked ahead of the next 7 teams below them is ludicrous..

Why would Charter Oak be ranked higher? I don’t get it. What did they do last year to earn a higher rank? Who did they beat? They barely made the playoffs and almost lost to South Hills! Up until now, they (as well as everyone else) are all hype. Let’s take a look at the other teams ranked higher and what they did in 2010.

    1. BA = Beat Crespi/Dominguez/2nd Place in #2 League in California.
    2. WC = League & CIF Champs
    3. Chino Hills = League & Beat Tesoro/REV/Charter Oak
    4. Bonita = League & CIF Runner-up
    5. Monrovia = League & CIF Champs
    6. Damien = Beat Claremont
    7. St. Francis = Didn’t do squat lol
    8. Claremont = Beat Chino Hills and Charter Oak
    9. Covina = League & Beat West Covina

    10. Charter Oak = Didn’t do squat either. Lost EVERY BIG game including losses to Glendora, Rancho Cucamonga, Claremont, Chino Hills, and Vista Murrieta.

****The weakest team above has got to be Damien. But as “bad” as Damien was, they still won their BIG game by finding a way to defeat Claremont.

These are CO’s 2010 wins and their records=
    Gardena (2 wins, 9 loss)
    Esperanza (3 wins, 7 loss)
Sante Fe (7 wins, 5 loss)
    Ayala (4 wins, 6 loss)
    Damien (6 wins, 4 loss)
South Hills (3 wins, 7 loss)

Again, because this season has not started yet and the fact that CO did not have any notable victories last season, I think Charter Oak is ranked right were they should be. Of course, this will probably change immediately but that remains to be seen.

  • same-same

“These are CO’s 2010 wins and their records=

Do the same breakdown on their two “championship” seasons and you’ll find similar wins

  • CO needs a deeper talent pool .

Charter Oak is in over their head in the inland Division. I don’t think they really wanted to go that high. They traditionally have lots of transfers, which made it look like they had a talent pool. However, if they don’t keep the transfers pouring in, you won’t see any success on that level. The Schools in that Division like the Corona Schools, Norco, Rancho’s, Vista’s and Chino Hills of that division have a constant pool of talent coming in yearly from their areas. Now if CO could draw in the players who Decide to go to Covina, then they will have the players they need to go deep in the Inland. Travis was a kid who went throw the CO program from JAA, He the main reason why CO is even good this year. I wonder if they have any of those types of players coming up through the ranks. Scoby was a great pick up. He could have went to Monrovia, Bishop…anywhere…but do they have any other kids like that coming up through the ranks? The Teams that won those titles, were as deep as a Corona, or Vista or Rancho. They tied rancho, and loss by 10 in the other game, and Rancho won it that year. Last years team lost by 2 tds, to a Rancho team that was a semifinalist, so you can’t knock them too hard. They will do a little better this year, but they will not get out of the first round. Since they did not do well last year, and are not predicted to be factor in that division this year, you get a low ranking. I really don’t see anything that separates this year’s CO team from any of the teams ranked higher than them. Even when you compare them to the lower Division teams, Like West Covina, Bonita, and Monrovia and Covina, Those teams still match up with a upper division team like CO.

  • Amat Bully

HEY i forgot i commented on this blog…….but im really tired of people coming on the blogs saying that CO won in a lower division but yet all you PRAISE west co since they won, in the same division CO won in back to back. All you bloggers are hypocrites and then all of a sudden West CO is ranked higher than CO when out of the last 6 times CO played them CO dominated them 5 wins to West CO 1….and truthfully the only reason why West CO won it is only because CO left the division………

  • well well well

So you are saying the West Co team that dominated Glendora, which CO lost to…would have not won the southeast, if CO stayed in the southeast?. So how would CO have stopped Solomon and BJ lee, and Frazier??? Co would have lost to west co last year.

  • WHITE FANG

The Servite vs Bishop Game will end up 32-31

I won’t say who will win! Then tell us if Amat

    SHOULD NOT BE #5!

  • just sayin’

Bully Boy – I think everyone gives West Covina more respect because they have the balls to schedule good teams in the preseason – something Sweet Lou never did. Even the LA times called it a “cupcake schedule”. Again – a tie with Rancho Cucamonga was ChOaks best win those 2 years.

  • Dan

    Bully,
West Co recieved no more praise than any other team that won a title in the area, being CIF champions, and with many retuning players from that team, they should get a higher ranking coming into the season than CO. CO is young and talented, they were impressive when I saw them at the Bonita tournament, but the only varsity most of these kids have played is touch football over the summer. By the way, in case you forgot, if it makes you feel any better, both Fred and Aram picked CO over WC in the “Top ten games you don’t get to see” Thread,[They're wrong by the way, ha ha].
Now as for last season, just take a look at these scores.
    CO 21 Glendora 28 West Co. 33 Glendora 28
CO 17 Santa Fe 0 West Co. 47 Santa Fe 7
    CO 34 S. Hills 31 West Co. 42 S. Hills 27
The S.Hills game was not as close as the score shows, and in the Glendora game, WC actually scored a touchdown that wasn’t given to them, [On a 4th and 1 play at the Glendora 6 yrd line gamefilm shows Solomon rolling over a defender but never touching the ground, he kept running,
and took it for a td but the ref called him down.], also in a scrimmage just before the first week of the season, WC 1st string had an easy time with Claremont who beat CO.
Pretty consistant evidence that WC still wins the division even if CO was still in it.

    White Fang,
I agree that Amat and Servite will be a close game, I think the game will be within 10 points
in favor of Servite, but it would not suprise me if Amat pulled the upset, ie: St. Bonnies in 09 or O-Lu. in 08.

  • Amat Bully

    well well well:
CO beat West CO two years ago and they had bj lee frazier and solomon on the team.

    Dan:
i see what your saying but team winning comparisons never really work. i do believe that if CO played West Co last year CO would had won. it would had been in the back of west co head the fact that they haven’t beat CO in years. but what i was saying is these bloggers are hypocrites they never mention the fact that west co won in a “weak lower division” and lost to a team in a even weaker division (covina). but if you mention CO winnings then all the hating comes out “they played against nobody or yeah they won the jaa championship”. im not hating on west co or the southeast im just saying respect CO for winning in the same division and beat the same West CO team one year on there way to the ship, just like yall respecting west co. don’t make it seem like the division is much stronger now. but these rankings mean nothing when the season start and CO is smashing on every team that comes their way it will change but CO won’t care its all about winning, forget a ranking.

  • OldMan in Chino

    To Amat Bully:
When I comment on Charter Oak I am not diminishing their past championships in any way. They were the best team in their division when they played for the division championship. My chief complaint has been that just because they were sucessful in a weaker division (VII) does not automatically mean that they will have the same level of success in a stronger division (II). Agreed that they have only been in The Inland Division one season and it was a 1 and out post-season run and they may be more successful this season; none the less the tenor of what is written about Charter Oak is that they have already sewn up the Sierra League Championship and they have yet to play a game.

  • Realityczech

The reality is West Covina fans don’t go running around beating their chest about being the best team around- because they’ve played better teams and are realistic about where they are in the food chain – in and out of the fish bowl. On the other hand, ChOak fans think because they won the Southeast that makes them world beaters. Well – last year was a reality check now – wasn’t it?

  • Ya Hearned it here 1st!!!!!

Charter Oak is going to lose to both Corona Roosevelt and Rancho Cucamonga. All this hype without playing or beating anyone last year or ANY year is going to end.

“The door is closed, the lights are out, the butters getting hard and the jello is jiggling”

  • CASE & POINT

Okay, IF… West Covina wins the SOUTHEAST title again, do they get bumped up to a stronger Division like C/O did? Answer that realityczech.

So will their titles be meaninless because they were in a lower division and now they’re in a stronger division when it happens…

  • FredJ

The Charter Oak, West Covina comparison’s are interesting, because they’re the same points I tried to make when comparing Charter Oak to Amat during the Chargers’ back-to-back title runs. Charter Oak fans assumed that meant they deserved to be the area’s top team, even though it won in a much, much easier division. For a season at least, Charter Oak and South Hills learned what it’s like to live in Amat’s shoes, having a tough game week in and week out in the Sierra, and an unforgiving playoff division. Result, Charter Oak 6-5, South Hills 3-7 .. Amat was still 9-2 against even tougher opponents start to finish….It’s what I’ve been saying all along, teams may schedule one or two step up games a year, but trying playing a tough opponent week in and week out, it’s not that easy.

  • BraveDad

    @ Norco,

You’re back! You are correct that Bosco has not made the playoffs recently, but try six years. That said, these rankings are not based on the last time a team made the playoffs, they are based on the team that will be fielded this coming season. Let me educate you a bit about Bosco for the upcoming season: Bosco has a 3rd yr starter at QB that was one of the top ranked QB’s after the 2010 season; we lost Martin Brown who led the Trinity League in rushing in 2010 but some kid named DeVonte Young is eligible this year and looks unstoppable (you ever heard of him-LMAO); at WR we have a kid named Bryce Treggs who very well could be the best in SoCAL/the State (how about Treggs, you heard of him-LMAO again!); at TE we have two kids who are big, fast, and athletic and they will run people over; Bosco has a huge OL that is very young, but very athletic; and finally, the defense will be beast like in 2011 and better than the 2010 version. Oh and about last season and the playoffs, Bosco was five plays away from winning the League last year, thats how tough and competitive the League is: five plays were the difference from League champs to 5th place.

Bosco plays PAC5, Trinity League football, not that crap Norco plays, but unless you live D1 ball every year, you have no clue so I excuse your ignorance. For some reason you love talking S&*$ about Bosco but that’s just like ignorant fools, i.e., they love talking about things they know nothing about. Did someone from Bosco hurt you in the past; maybe a football player stole your girl? Or, did you go to a school that Bosco played in the past and you got thumped? Unless a head to head can be scheduled, which wont happen any time soon, I suggest you take your lowly rankings and come to the realization that youre division whatever program does not register as high as the D1 schools. Suggestion: like the mediocre looking dude at the dance you should be happy that chubby girl with the cute face will dance with you and enjoy yourself!

  • Fact of the Matter

Look for all the CO critics out there, yes CO was in a down year last year and we knew that if we were going to win big games our defense would have to play exceptional and our offense was going to have to score at least 42 points to win most games. Evidently that didn’t happen and that lead to 5 losses we took. We had 2 sophmore and a freshman runningback carrying our run game and some real inexperience on the line, all of the pressure was on Travis and the big trio of recievers. This year CO has alot more experience coming back, the offense should be alot more balanced with Scooby being a year older he will be a load to bring down, the recievers will be fine, look out for Bryce Bobo to put his face on the map and Gilchrist to have another breakout year, as far as defense goes I think this will be the best secondary in the valley and if the front 7 can hold the run down teams will have alot of trouble scoring, in the secondary look for Thropay whose grown in everyway possible astronomically, and aaron vaughns to tighten down deep coverage as well as Herm and Scoob. I think people have them underrated but by the end of the regular season they will be sitting at either 9-1 or 10-0. Every game they will be under estimated but with a defensive coach like Lehigh he can prepare any group of guys schematically and mentally to play night in and night out. PERFORM CO

  • Realityczech

Case “IN” Point – be careful what you wish for – you might get it. And CO did. They told anyone who would listen how good they were – so CIF let them find out. Good riddance. If WC does the same – the same might happen. But the cycle isn’t for a few more years – so they be back down by then – who knows.
Nowhere did I say anyone’s titles were meaningless. They know exactly what it means and they are comfortable in their own skin. They were the best in the Souheast and they know they can step on the field with the big boys. They also know they have a ways to go to consistently beat those teams – something CO didn’t know – but is finding out now.

out of those 9 victories only about 4 of them were against good teams and please dont consider a 2-8 notre dame team good that year. i give them dominguez, crespi, 3-7 good loyola team and thats about it the rest of the teams they beat were not good teams. your bias ways still shows….

  • BraveDad

    AztecPride,

What up? I only use two brother: JustSayin when I post a general opinion; and, BraveDad when it’s an issue that focuses solely SJB Braves (what gave it away, the playoff comment?). Good catch though partner. Norco has come after Bosco for whatever reason this offseason and I figured I would respond because its fun to point out how foolish some peoples comments are on this blog. In this instance he questioned Bosco’s placement in the national rankings and even though these rankings do not mean much, especially after a couple/few weeks of play, I have fun responding to his nonsense. (Boscos Calpreps rankings are even higher. I wonder if that gets his man panties into even more of a bunch-LOL!)

  • FredJ

Amat Bully, name another school who WON four games of that caliber, Dominguez, Venice, Crespi, Loyola, plus two games lost against quality opponents in Alemany and Tesoro, which equals six high-quality games. Most teams in this area schedule one game like that, maybe two. Amat scheduled six, and that doesn’t include Notre Dame, who had a down year. Even the average games, Damien, Muir and Cathedral, would be considered tough games for other area teams. West Covina’s lone step-up game last year was Venice. South Hills, in my opinion, played the second toughest schedule, facing Tesoro, Los Osos, West Covina and Monrovia, plus the Sierra and went 3-7. Charter Oak’s lone non-league step-up was Rancho Cucamonga, which they lost big and finished third in the Sierra. Glendora moved to the Baseline and looked what happened again. But I know, I’m biased for making another argument that makes sense and has facts to back it up.

  • Geez

CO doesn’t have 4 wins this century that are that good!

  • Realityczech

And remind NotSince1995 how he refuses to address anything Joe Amat calls him on. LOL! Talk about no facts. NotSince1995 is the King of no facts.

  • Dan

    Fred,
What exactly is a step up game? Wouldn’t last years Bonita, Mayfair, or Glendora before Jefferies was hurt, be considered step up games?
I’m not sure I would consider Venice as West Covina’s lone step up game, looks like they had at least 4, right?

  • FredJ

Dan, I mean legitimate Div 1 or D 2 competition, which means quality programs in the Inland and Pac-5 ..

Not since, those are fine facts, but what does that have to do with comparing Amat to teams in the San Gabriel Valley?

  • J.D. Salinger

    The story of Notsince1995.

He was born in the suburbs of east LA. His family spent years digging a tunnel out so that they could provide a better life for their son. It was not until 6 months after they had surfaced and moved into their 2 bedroom Charter Oaks Estates home that they realized that there was a freeway and they could have just driven.
Now they were living the good life. Their son did well in school and always sported the latest in pocket protectors. He even prided himself with being the only kid in school with an electric abacus. Then the day came. High School. Now he was a Charter Oak freshman!
He tried out for football but because of a bad injury to his knee at the 1980 Los Angeles Star Trek Convention he had to settle for team manager. But at least he was close to his idols, the football players. After the end of the first season the team even gave him his own jersey. Number 19. This was his favorite number because it was only 3 away from Joe Montanas number! He wore that jersey every day from that day on. He slept in it. He showered in it and after 6 months it was starting to look pretty ragged. By the start of he next football season it was being held together with so many safety pins that he looked like a punk rocker. He needed a new jersey but knew he probably would not get another one till the end of the season.
It was during the second week of practice that his luck would would change. Or so he thought. Charter Oak had a scrimmage with Bishop Amat. He had never seen players so big when they got off the bus. Surely these must be professional players he though at the end of the first quarter with the score Bishop Amat 28 Charter Oak 0. By half-time they had to go to manually keeping score because the scoreboard did not go up that high. He was devastated.
He just happened to be by the Amat team room when they came out after halftime. The players filed past him and one big defensive lineman could not help noticing his tattered C.O. jersey and the sad expression on his face. He took pity on him and just as in the Mean Joe Green commercial he threw the kid something and said ” Here Kid….wear this instead of that old beat up jersey, But just wait till after the game to put it on”.
“Thanks mister!” he replied and ran back to finish his duties with the team. The final score was not pretty. Bishop Amay 109 Charter Oak 0. Even the Bishop Amat cheerleaders scored 4 times.
Not Since did not care. He had a new Idol now. Bishop Amat. He packed up the gear and hauled it into the locker room. He then went to the coach and quit on the spot. When the coach asked him why he just ripped off his old jersey and put on what the Bishop Amat player had given him. “I’m a Bishop Amat fan now!’ he yelled with pride.
It fit good only the neck was a little tight and the sleeves were really baggy. It took a minute before the coach busted out laughing. Not Since did not understand….what was so funny? “Come here kid” the coach said and led him over to a mirror. There he stood…looking at himself in the mirror. Wearing the Bishop Amat linemans boxers…..
He vowed that day to get even. No matter how long it took.

  • late night taco bell

Not since 1995 does the same thing over and over again. However, In this era of Bishop Amat football, no one is discussing Bishops chance of winning a title anytime soon. With Amat being a top 5 team in the SS, wouldn’t that be the topic of conversation on this blog? As proud, as the Bishop Family is, no one has been ballsy enough to say ” Amat has a real chance at winning the Pac5 this year”. Back in the 90′s when Amat was rolling, this was something the Amat Nation felt. Being number one in the Valley means nothing to the HOly Bishop Amat family. Until someone will address this argument, I think the guy is doing a great job of getting under your skin! He is saying that Amat is not going win Pac 5, and he swears by it. If you could give one shread of evidence that there is any chance Bishop is a real Pac 5 players this year, Just put it out there and shut this guy up. Lets just look at it…Bishop last year did not play one preseason game where the team could or should beat them. They lost League, and then lost at home in the first round. This year they decided to step up and play one game in the preseason, where they are not the favorites. They are playing at a neutral site, So their is no excuse and no where to hide. So Not since is saying that they are going to lose big to Servite. I have not heard one Bishop Fan even touch on that…What’s the expectation in that game? What’s the prediction? Bishop Fans the local smaller schools look up to you like, a little kid looks up to his brother…if that little kid sees his brother, get knock out, well it sucks. So the question is not who in the Valley can compare to you, its how do you compare to the competition you play representing the SGV. OC teams feel they can just come and beat you when it counts. Teams like West Covina, Chino hills, and Monrovia, put it down representing the SGV in their perspective divisions, Now I give bishop props for beating MD two years ago at home. Last year was bad, and this year you get to see the big boys, in your Div….what are you going to do when the Servite buff Friars, come looking for you”. Your SGV record does not mean squat when you are talking about the growth and progress of your program. If you are the only pac 5 team in the area, you should be the best team. Remember that. Here is what would get you back to Championship form…

    Servits preseason schedule
    Oceanside(Div 2 Champ SD)
    Bishop Amat
    La Habra(Division South West Champ)
    Edison
    Bishop Gorman(State Champion NV)***
    Trinity league is tough

    Bishop Amats preseason
    Garfield
    Servite**
    La Mirada
    Damien
    Cathedral
    Serra Leauge is tough

    Bishop Should play a preseason
    Chino Hills
    Servite
    West Covina
    Charter Oak
    Monrovia/Bonita

Yeah they may beat those teams, but they are all ranked higher than all their preseason game, except Servite. Fred you never talked about how bishops preseason is weak compared to the top Pac 5 programs. If you want to shut up the hecklers, you will have to do it talking about what Bishop Does outside, the SGV.

  • Frank

Thanks for the Story, Mr Salinger, I’m LMAO!

  • Funny stuff

    @JD
Can you write up the “True Hollywood Story” about Amat Bully as well? LMFAO

  • CO Bro

    Amat Bully,
You will NEVER gain anyone’s respect by demanding it. It does not matter what championship CO won or who they may or may not have beaten, you can’t come on here and demand that people respect CO’s program. It is not going to happen until CO step’s up their non league schedule or goes deep into the Inland division playoffs. I cringe every time you post something because you are digging a bigger hole for the rest of us CO fans. You do not speak for the rest of us

    @Realityczech,
“COak fans think because they won the Southeast that makes them world beaters”, not all of us think this way, some but not all.

    @JD Salinger,
Why he gotta be from CO?

    @Freddie,
“I mean legitimate Div 1 or D 2 competition, which means quality programs in the Inland and Pac-5″, do you mean to say there are only quality programs in the Pac-5 & Inland division? Sure seems like it.

  • Colt74

Charter Oak won their championships by playing the teams in the league, their division, and in the playoffs. NOTHING anyone can spew about them being in a weaker division can take that away. They earned those banners and those rings.
I’m not by any means a Charter Oak fan. But I respect their program and believe that they got the short end of the stick being moved to where they are at now. Charter Oak belongs in the Inland Division as much as Covina belongs in the Pac5.
Let the kids, the coaches, and the alumni from CO enjoy their accomplishments. They earned that.

I’m also not a Amat Bully fan but I do admire his commitment or the fact that maybe he should be committed. He, for the most part, backs up his claims with stats, scores, and such instead of just coming on here like so many and just saying “So and So sucks”…If he’s proud of his team and thinks they will do well who are we to think otherwise? Until November everyone is guessing. His guesses are as valid as anyone elses.

  • AMAT 73

    CO Bro,
Good points to valley guy as he was originally know as. As far notsince2009 he has gone on record as being a CO honk so that is the reason for JD’s story with CO as his team .

    late night,
First off that nation bs only started maybe 4 years ago so it was not possible for the nation in the 90′s to expect something. As far as The Family we have and know our expectations as to what our team is capable of and will do . It is very easy for some jackass to come on here and make predictions and what not on AMAT’s season. But you notice has never comes out and says who will win the PAC-5 or making such a claim that CO ( his chosen team ) will win the Inland title. We could just as easily blast him on that subject but why and what would that prove .As far as getting under our skin you couldn’t be further from the truth . He has due to his constant rhetoric and not answering when posts are addressed to him on certain falsehoods in his posts become what he is , the butt of many bloggers jokes and stories . By the way the butt is a pun intended . If any of us were to post what you are asking of us what would that set off on this blog. It’s one thing to have decent disscussions on those subjects with bloggers going back and forth in a sensable football manner but really, all the snakes and trolls would come out from under their rocks and blast away. Prime example of this is AMAT bully . This guy has no sense of reality other than blasting AMAT just because he hates us . I don’t know how long you have been on here for the fact that you post under many names but I do see a similarity in the fact of the HOLY Bishop AMAT wording in your post which I have seen before in another post or two but the reason for our schedule has been stated many times before and the fact that you now see Servite on our schedule backs that up .I am guessing that next season you will see an IE team also. The present schedule has to do with the St Bonnies game being dropped due to their league realignment . Look back to schedules before that and you will see .Your proposed schedule is not really that stong of a schedule outside of the SGV and no where near the Servite schedule . Now switch La Habra and an IE school and a strong city school and you’re talking but all those SGV teams are too many, but one or two of them would be ok . Now as far as the Servite game , do I think we will win , hell yes we will because we have done it before when no one outside of The Family gave us a chance . Now having said that watch what happens to the blog especially out of your pal .

  • Amat Bully

    CO Bro
Dude shut up you sound like a wimp stop speaking for others and like i told yo soft self before i dont give a damn how you fake CO fans feel. i have yet to see you stick up for CO one time on here all your saying is what the haters are saying. Dude stand up for your team and stop worrying about others from other schools not liking CO.

    Amat 73
of course your going to say he made a good point that dude says things to satisfy you Amat fans. even if CO wins it all in the inland division he still would knock that and say it wasn’t a pac5 championship but it will do. Im done responding to you and that softy im a die hard CO fan and nothings going to change that.

  • Amat Bully

    fredj
you said name a team in the sgv that played a tougher caliber schedule well how about SOUTH HILLS
they played Tosoro who bishop lost to West CO cif champs Monrovia cif champs and los osos. all non-league games.

  • Late night taco bell

Amat 73 I understand your points. Any Blogger on here(if there team is known) should talk about what their teams is going to do instead how much better they are then other teams in the SGV. Each team is in their division for a reason, however when it comes to cross comparing teams, and people are talking about one game match ups. Anything can happen. Holy Bishop Amat does have a stellar record against SGV teams for several reasons, 1, Bishop has the best position coaches from all over. 2, The Majority of the other SGV schools, are great for 1 or 2 years, then drop off, they don’t have a program built on continuous winning tradition. 3, bishop has the experience of playing in “Big” games. For example West covina will win CIF then have some average years, then bounce back. Any team that builds up a enough rep for you all to play them, once the contract is signed, that team may not be as good as last year or years back. Charter Oak is another School. When they won their last titles, that team was good enough to compete with Bishop. But then they had a drop off. I think West Co is the one to watch. It’s not your fault, that the powers in the SGV changes so often. It’s really hard to stay current when you have to schedule 2 years out. With that being said, Bishop May never get to play the top SGV team every year, unless someone builds a dynasty in the future. But, Bishops program is at a stagnate point right now. Something has to happen over there to get you all over the hump. I just don’t see you getting the studs, you used to. Jaylen developed nicely, you can always find running backs in the SGV, but it’s the size, and speed on the line, and Defense bishop is lacking. Other schools, in the SGV do have that, now all they need to do is play big games like Bishop, and you will see some teams bring it. That’s all…I don’t hate Bishop, Their just not the HOLY Bishop Amat, that i’m used to watching and reading about. I would love to see BA win the Pac 5. Bishop Amat is the representative of the SGV outside of our area. So when the bloggers criticize, it should be on that level.

South Hills did have the toughest schedule last year. Bishop Did have Alemany and Crespi, but outside of that…not tougher than South hills

  • just sayin’

Bully Boy – that ChOak education for you didn’t work out so well did it? can you say “reading comprehension”? I knew you could!
Fred wrote ” South Hills, in my opinion, played the second toughest schedule, facing Tesoro, Los Osos, West Covina and Monrovia, plus the Sierra and went 3-7.”
    So your point is?

  • FYI

    Strength of schedule
    Bishop Amat 36.2
    South Hills 32.4
    http://calpreps.com/2010/ratings/California_all.htm
South Hills had the SECOND best schedule

  • Amat Bully

ok well here’s another team that had a tough non-league schedule NON-LEAGUE just sayin’ fyi: of course with Alemany, Notre dame and Crespi on your league schedule your strength will be up…

    San dimas
    Bonita southeast runner up
    Rancho 11-2
    Monrovia cif champs

im just sayin’ other sgv teams do play tough schedules tougher than Amat does in NON-LEAGUE we all know there is no comparing the Serra league to any other besides other pac5 leagues but to say that Amat has the toughest schedule thats BS there schedule is only considered tough because of their league now if we talk just NON-LEAGUE then where would Amat be ranked at as far as scheduling. i doubt it would even be in the top 5 in the sgv

  • Reality

Garfield, Venice, Dominguez were all undefeated League Champs. Damien beats a Claremont team ChOak couldn’t, ChOak needed a missed conversion to beat Muir in the FIRST ROUND and Cathedral probably gives most teams in the SGV a run for their money – including the Chargers. Watch them this year- their QB would be among the top 3 in the SGV

  • Norco

    Bravedad…

Please…bottom line Bosco sucks…So stop with your excuses…

  • Braves #2 in Trinity???

I would not say that St. John Bosco sucks. All of their losses came at the hands of Pac-5 opponents. As a matter of fact, the last time SJB lost to a non Pac-5 opponent was 3 years ago. Last season, they destoyed La Habra and Loyola.

They lost to Mater Dei, Servite, Orange Lutheran, and Santa Margarita by a combined 28 points. That’s pretty good considering that Calpreps had the Trinity League as the #1 league in California and #2 in the USA.

For the first time in a long time and on paper, SJB is supposed to make some noise in the Trinity this season. We’ll see how that goes.

  • Whoa Nelly!

“Please…bottom line Bosco sucks…So stop with your excuses…

Please…name one team from the IE that could beat them. Calpreps picks them by 17 over Norco.

Just one team. Take your time. I’ll check back next week while you tap dance about how much SJB sucks….

Bottom line Norco WISHED they sucked as much as you think SJB does.

    Braves #2 in Trinity???

In 07-08 you guys lost to Rancho Verde…Who lost to NORCO…enough said

  • Norco

Whats funny is Bosco fans get all excited for some bogus rankings that have no merit at the beginning of the season ..These rankings are not based off of past production, but rather than attributed potential…which I might add is taken from questionnaires filled out by the coaches.. .LMFAO

Hell I will give you a list of teams…

    CC
    Norco
    REV
    Redlands
    Upland
    Ranch Cucamonga
    Los Osos
    Chino Hills

Thats enough for now…How about you try and make the playoffs before pumping your chest?

  • Wow!

    @ To Cut’n'Paste queen

That was an awesome post that EVERYONE in the San Gabriel Valley needs to read so that they can have a better understanding of CIF Southern Section high school football.

  • Norco

    Cunt n Paste queen

Here is a little Norco History since you don`t know chit…

    5 CIF Championships

    1990 1992 1993 1998 2005 2006

    3 CIF Runners Up

    1994 2003 2004

    26 Straight CIF Playoff appearances

    1974 1980 1981 1982 1984 1985 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010

  • I smell cow!

    LOL@Norco

In 2007, this 3-6 (5th place Trinity) St John Bosco squad lost to Rancho Verde by only 4 points. Norco beat Rancho Verde by only 3 points. You speak as if Norco dominated RV but the reality was, Norco was right on par w/ SJB. As a matter of fact, Norco had to rally in the 4th quarter to beat RV. I don’t know why u are bragging about a Norco team that lost to Leuzinger (LMAO!!!) in 2007.

Since u dig on comparative scores, a year before in 2006, SJB (Again, 5th place Trinity)annihlated Rancho Verde 38-7 while Norco struggled only managing a 1 TD win over RV (35-28). It doesn’t take a genius to imagine what would have happened if SJB played Norco this year…and this was the year Norco won a CIF Championship!!! LMAO AGAIN!!!

Basically Norco, you have no idea how tough the Trinity Division is. How could you when Norco has never stepped up and scheduled a parochial or other Pac-5 giant? The only school from the Inland that knows how tough the Trinity is, is Corona Centennial.

Thats enough for now…How about you try and grow a pair and schedule someone of significance before pumping your chest?

  • Norco

First of all know you facts…Norco played three Varsity games in a span of a week in a half…The RV game was a non league game in week #9 that didn`t even matter…Norco played their JV that game idiot…And once again in 2006 the game was a non league game in week #9 where…once gain Norco started and played their JV team…lol…I like how talk out of your ass…Bottom line well Bosco played their starters against RV…Norco played their subs and went 2-0….Bosco 1-1 …

And FYI I`ve watched plenty of Trinity League football over the years…My nephew was the starting LB for Orange Lutheran in 2009 #34 Junior Alvarado (All League) I watched him kick Boscos ass that year, he stripped Bryce Treggs of the ball, scooped up the ball and raced 75 yards for a touchdown that eventually led to Orange Lutherans 24-17 victory…And this year I will watch my godson once again #34 Anthony Topete kick Boscos ass…funny thing….my famliy has never lost to weak ass Bosco team…

Maybe its time for Bosco to step down to D6…lord know that cant compete..this is too phuckin easy…

  • BraveDad

    @Norco,

You are a Jack A$% – period! I made no excuses and in fact stated that the rankings mean nothing – can you read or does that IE education stop after the 6th grade like a third world country? Everyone on this thread is disagreeing with you and making you look like a fool by speaking fact. You however are clueless. There is no comparison between the level of football Norcow plays and that of D1, Trinity league. And by the way, who cares about 2009 and your nephew? I wish that Bosco and Norcow could play a game this season because afterwards you would maybe feel as foolish as you make yourself out to be you freekin nimrod. Then again, Bosco has bigger fish to fry as opposed to wasting time with divisions whatever team that plays on a dirt field. Now go away, I think your cousin Thelma is calling you. Im out!

  • Norco

    Bosco…Norcos your daddy…

Everyone? The only clowns who are disagreeing are you Bosco b!tches…So please STFU…Bosco sucks period…quit with the excuse we play in the Trinity League…”we almost won”…”we almost beat” “Bosco was five plays away from winning the League last year”…bottom line Bosco is irrelevant when it comes to football. As for playing on a dirt field…ha ha…try again…Norco has a state of the stadium and a weight room that will rival any college….tell you what how about you enjoy watching us on TV AGAIN this year…let me ask you this…How come Bosco is NEVER on TV?????? Ha ha …

And FYI bosco bItch….There are no cows in Norco…

  • Frank

Wow, Norco’s been around for 26 years. That I’m surprised, I remember when they started building Rialto/Riverside/Fontana/Ontario in the mid 80′s . Those areas were just no mans lands to us, back then. A few scattered farms and that was it. I only heard of Norco ten years ago. Who have they played to have such a tradition. I guess working on the Farms at 4 years old has made some good football players.

  • Norco’s Lutheran Orange Bandwagon

Amazing! Norco is now an Orange Lutheran fan! Funny how he has NEVER mentioned this before! But what is this??? He has a godson named Anthony Topete???

“Godson” Anthony Topete goes to MATER DEI…NOT ORANGE LUTHERAN YOU LYING MORON! HAHAHAHAA! Lemme guess! Orange Lutheran and Mater Dei have the SAME colors on Maxpreps and you confused the two??? HAHAHAHAAA!

Geezus Norco…if ur gonna lie at least get your schools straight. You just proved to everyone that…

    #1. You’re a sad liar
    and
#2. Norco, indeed, does NOT know the Trinity! LOL!

That’s real nice that Norco’s “nephew” had a nice play when OL played SJB in 2009. But the last time I checked, football was a team game and a 24-17 victory is nothing to brag about. The game was 14-10, SJB going into the 4th.

This guy Norco is a joke. When he’s challenged about Norco having a weak ass schedule (which of course, he has NO excuse for), he jumps ship and all of a sudden has family at Orange Lutheran…I mean Mater Dei…I mean…Orange Lutheran…or was it Norco? SO CONFUSING!

Norco then SCREWS UP by highjacking and electronically baptizing some poor kid from Mater Dei! OH THE HUMANITY! ROTFLMFAO!!!!

Regardless, Orange Luthern and Mater Dei know the Trinity but the fact remains that Norco High does not. Sleep well, you sad, sad man.

  • ???

Norco-#34 on 2011 OLutheran is Chris Mitchell. there no Anthony Topete on the roster.

  • Norco

Wow…you must really be one phuckin idiot…I never said I was a OL or MD fan….far from it….but I support my family….Now this is what I said…its pretty clear…it really is…

“And FYI I`ve watched plenty of Trinity League football over the years…My nephew was the starting LB for Orange Lutheran in 2009 #34 Junior Alvarado (All League) I watched him kick Boscos ass that year, he stripped Bryce Treggs of the ball, scooped up the ball and raced 75 yards for a touchdown that eventually led to Orange Lutherans 24-17 victory…And this year I will watch my godson once again #34 Anthony Topete kick Boscos ass…funny thing….my famliy has never lost to weak ass Bosco team”…

    These are facts…

1)My godson does play for MD LB #34 Anthony Topete
    2) My nephew did play for Orange Lutheran and was All Trinity League LB #34 Junior Alvarado

Now how about taking a reading comprehension class you dumb phuck

  • Norco

If you clowns can read…I said he was the starting LB for Orange Lutheran in 2009 #34 Junior Alvarado and was All League Trinity
