Breaking News: Brett Pill to taste the San Francisco treat, gets his call to the major leagues

Former Covina High School standout Brett Pill, who also starred at Cal State Fullerton, was promoted from Triple-A Fresno to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.
The son, of Mike Pill, of Edgewood High School, and older brother of Tyler Pill, also of Covina and Cal State Fullerton, had a solid summer for the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League.

Pill ranked among the PCL leaders in several offensive categories, including hits (167), RBIs (107), doubles (36), extra-base hits (64), total bases (284) and at-bats (536).
The negative of his call up was that the Giants desginated former Glendora star Aaron Rowand for assignment.
There’s only 40 spots,” Giants general manager Brian Sabean told MLB.com. “It’s a lot to do with that, including giving somebody like Pill a chance.”
Giants manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com that Pill would provide the team right-handed power off the bench, while making an occasional start.
