Baseball: Garza commits to Cal State Fullerton

| | Comments (31) |

Bonita High School's Justin Garza was the area's top baseball pitcher this past spring.
His efforts earned him a scholarship to one of the top college programs in the country after the senior to be committed to Division national power Cal State Fullerton.
Garza, who is expected to be one of the top pro prospects next season, had arguably one of the top seasons in area history. He earned CIF-Southern Section All-Division 3 and was Tribune All-Area after going 13-0 with 75 strikeouts and a softball-like ERA of 0.51. He helped Bonita reach the division semifinals for the second consecutive season.
Garza joins a Fullerton team, which won the Big West title and advanced to the NCAA regionals. Fullerton has won four College World Series.

Now what? Coach Knott to leave and go to APU, Newell and Cates to quit?
Bonita baseball is on a steep decline and will finish behind Walnut and Rowland in baseball next season. Looks like the cupboard is empty and even the scraps are gone!
Next, kh to manage Bonita

Don,
Henley, Row, Castro, Heslop, and Reyes, you’d have a better chance of winning the Indy 500 with Lady Gaga riding on a Schwinn!

Goodwin said:

Henry Omana a 6’3” pitcher and a talented cast return next season for Diamond Bar almost every position has a returning player coming back.
Diamond Ranch only lost one good player (Rouric Bridgewater) “a great kid”. This year’s team led by team Captain, Dylan Goodwin will give Diamond Bar and Los Altos a real run. Isaiah Ramirez, Raymond Gonzales, Jesse Marquez, Vincent Ortega, will all contribute to a successful season.
Don’t forget about Los Altos, they have the best chance to win it all. Great hitting and one of the best pitchers in So. CA.

the creem has rizen to the to at bonita and the garza kid is the creem. to bad the the creem is the only thing in the bowl at bonita this year ‘no supporting players”. bonita wont make the playoffs.

Henley, Row, Castro, Heslop, and Reyes, that’s what your pining next year’s season on? Be afraid, be very afraid!!!!!!!!
The Real Tommy Lasorda? Bonita has a great core returning and should do some special things? Congrats to all the SGV kids on all of their accomplishments? Accomplishments other than Justin Garza, NONE!

The Real Tommy Lasorda said:

Pay no attention to the other Tommy. Obviously he is only trying to stir things up. Obvioulsy he has nothing better to do but try to cause trouble between a bunch of high school kids. Anyone that knows Justin, knows how humble he is. He will be the first to give credit to his team mates and put them ahead of himself. Bonita has a great core returning and should do some special things. Congrats to all the SGV kids on all of their accomplishments.

Bonita said:

C'mon Don. You have to know that this Tommy cannot by the Tommy that was posting during the year and is some impostor trying to stir trouble. Would not even respond.

Don said:

Tommy,

Did Henley, Row, Castro, Heslop, and Reyes all leave?

One man team?

Tommy, Thomster, Thomarootie, c'mon buddy.

Tommy Lasorda said:

Garza will rise to the top at Fullerton just as he has at Bonita. He is clearly the best player on his high school team. He leads the pack in all categories, he can run throw and hit, hit for power and, oh yeah, the best infielder on the team when he’s not pitching! Last years Seniors have left 2012 Bonita a one man team.

Steve,
Daniel Zamora committed to Stony Brook

Very true, Don. But I noticed when Horton became coach, Fullerton ventured to SGV even more. I ran in to Rick Vanderhook - now Fullerton's coach - a few times at local games when he was an assistant. It's funny that when he left Fullerton for UCLA, those SGV kids went to Westwood. I expect a flow back to OC now that he's back in town.

Don said:

You know Steve, CSF has been a stopping point for many SGV baseball players going wayyyy back. Congrats to Justin for joining a fine group of guys who have repped the area as Titans for years.

Besides the various Pills and Pedrozi, you have names like Pillitere, Waroff, Burgos, Aaron Rowand, Dan Dorn, Mike Lamb, and and and . . .

I think George Horton used to come over and buy his pencils in West Covina.

fred is gone -record -rest my -huh,
Well thanks to you people 1/3 of the thread is posts related to AMAT . Sometimes it's better to just read and enjoy and keep quiet instead of letting your feelings be known.

Huh?: This will be the sports blog for all three our papers in a couple of weeks, so as the new Whittier Prep Editor, I'm posting things here. I'm also helping out Fred this week, posting some breaking Tribune News, like Monday's Cory Lidle Foundation travelball story and the news about Bonita's Justin Garza committing to Cal State Fullerton. Remember, Fullerton is the top college baseball program in SoCal, so it's somewhat big news when they venture outside of Orange County to sign a kid.
For the Whittier readers, I posted a blog topic on La Habra's football schedule, which includes a meeting against Servite.

just sayin,
I said whitiier blog, who said anything about St.paul??

Whittiers hasn't been updated since The Benny Hills Show.

Can someone tell me what happened to the whittier blog??? I thought someone took over,no disrepect but i hate this blog, I bet Fred wears AMAT PJ's to bed, if u know what I mean.

Rest My Case said:

Just for the record, I checked all the current threads and one out of ever three that Fred started were about Bishop Amat or Rio Ruiz. Steve started around ten of them and none were about Bishop Amat or Rio Ruiz, I rest my case.

Recorder setting pace .... said:

The last six threads have been started by Steve and none mention Bishop Amat or Rio Ruiz. That has to be a record.

Record setting pace .... said:

Check that this is the second baseball and neither were about Bishop Amat or Rio Ruiz that is a record.

just askin' said:

what exactly have we heard? this is the only HS post form our area since Fred is gone.

Fred is Gone said:

Amazing Fred is on vacation, and no Bishop Amat and no Rio Ruiz. Can the Tribune extend Fred's vacation the majority of SGV enjoys hearing about the rest of the SGV.

Great Job Stevo!!

Best of luck Garza!!

Sorry, Saints. Fred is not here this week. I used the picture Fred used last week, and assumed it was accurate, since I didn't cover Bonita this year.
Sorry for the mistake.

SaintsR4real said:

Uhh, Freddy,
I probably could dig up a picture of Garza if you'd like!! What gives, lol!
