Bishop Amat quarterback Rio Ruiz was scheduled to leave with Team USA Baseball after Friday’s game against Servite so he could compete in the COPABE Pan American 18 and Under championships in Colombia from Sept. 12 through Oct 2. However, Ruiz said he will remain with the football team for the remainder of the season after learning the Pan American championships were pushed back to November, which is during the football playoffs. Ruiz told the L.A. Times, “I’m not leaving my team.” He would have missed three straight games after Friday’s big game against Servite, but now won’t miss any.
