Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.

Last Week: Robledo (12-10); Tolegian (14-8).

Last week: Never had a week where I lost 10 games, not even close. With Aram losing eight to take a two-game lead, that kind of shows how unpredictable opening weekend was with teams like El Monte, Los Altos and Duarte all winning. In the weekend’s big three games, Aram and I split. We both took Charter Oak over Glendora, but he took Bonita over San Dimas and I had West Covina over Covina, so that was a wash.

This week: Business is business, no way I’m taking Amat over Servite. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but the Lancers would have had a better shot at home, not at Cerritos College. In fact, Calpreps’ computers predicts a 35-6 Servite beating, so you know it’s a super longshot. Other interesting games, I’m taking San Dimas over Azusa and Glendora over Monrovia in a shocker. I also like Loyola over West Covina, Bonita over Claremont, Diamond Bar over Wilson and Damien over Diamond Ranch. There are lots of other interesting games, like El Monte and La Puente, especially after the Lions’ big win over Baldwin Park. In fact, El Monte-La Puente is our Thursday night game of the week.

Note: Aram will pick his games later in the day. My predictions are already up.

Um I think you guys are forgetting the best team in the valley, CHARTER OAK? They play Roosevelt of Corona on Friday at seven o clock at Charter oak. Roosevelt went to the semis in the inland division last year should be a good one.

  • Frank

Oh yeah, forgot. Roosevelt 52- 7 over charter oak,Co scoring late 4th Qtr on 3rd string

  • CoFootball12

Ya okay “Frank”, typical CO hater i love it. Don’t get mad cause you don’t live in the Charter Oak district.

  • I am surprised you are both going with San Dimas after the way they lost to Bonita. Also Bonita should have no problems with Claremont. Claremont has just as big of a quarterback problem as Bonita does, but I think Bonita’s skill players are better. Wernli could be a problem for Bonita’s run game, but I think Bonita will repeat against Claremont.27-17.

  • Amat Bully

i see you love to make yourself look like an a$$. you really don’t know football you or the famous hater Aram you two dudes really picked roosevelt over CO. you two are jokes.

  • Amat Bully

I wonder if there is any Amat faithfuls who really believe that they are going to beat Servite.

  • Frank

@ Cofootball, a lot of your players don’t live int he charter oak district either!
In all honesty I hope you guys can pull off a victory and rep the Sgv.

  • TGee

Damien HUGE over Dranch. Gano needs to quiet his parents!!! DR will have 90 yards total offense. Passing and running game will be stopped.
again want the SGV team, Roosevelt over CO
COVINA BIG!!! just way too powerful for Gladstone will be Glad when the game is finally over.
must win for SH? QB must shine
Arroyo by 7 over TC will have Rivera running for his life Diamond Bar over Wilson will be a boring Coaching game
Bellflower will crush LA after the biggest win in LA history

  • Old Spartan Player

Finally we get to see how good Damien looks this season. Hopefully it’s really good.
Also, good luck to the rest of the Sierra teams.
    Some big games for them.
Ayala- Can show they can compete with a win.
Charter Oak- Can finally back up the hype with a win or be called overrated with a loss.
Chino Hills- Can avenged last year loss and with a win can show they are ready to defend their league title.
Claremont- With a win can show that they still have some talent to compete in league
Good Luck and lets be victorious this week.

  • Relentless D

After watching South Hills and West Covina game I realized how important it is to have a good reliable kicker who wont miss a field goal when it counts the most. That being said I think South Hills will make some adjustments and bounce back with a win over Santa Monica.

The first quarter will determine how bad the game will go for Amat. I see Amat meeting up with Servite in the finals.

  • Smallcitymc

How many times in the last few years have we heard “Amat is going to get blown out” only to find out otherwise? Going into some those games Amat had no business, at least on paper, either making a game of it or winning.

Looking at the stats, Amat/Servite looks like “another” blow out. Servite is bigger (believe me they are huge), faster and has a better track record. Let’s go back a few years and replace Servite with… hmmm, say Orange Lutheran (remember that game). It’s a broken record that keeps repeating itself.

I had serious doubts in the past about Amat winning those games. I won’t bet against Amat this time. Why? Coaching, that’s why. I’ve learned that was the difference in years past. Whether it’s through play calling or making one believe in one self, it’s worked and there is no reason to believe it won’t this time. Just like Servite has a track record, so does Amat… winning when their an underdog.

Roosevelt lost in the quarters to Rancho Cucamonga 51 to 36. Still a decent team. They might be without starting qb Crone, that will make a large difference in the game. I heard last week he was good to go, so we will see. Should be a very good game..

  • CO Parent

In all honesty, I wish Amat the best of luck. I hope you don’t buy into the hype that Servite is this big bad unstoppable force. They are high school kids that are well coached. Intimidation and hype sometimes makes a difference, and it has for them these past few years.

Amat, you need to go in there with all the pride your school history has developed over the years. You need to remember that on any given Friday, the size of your heart and effort matter as much, and maybe more than size and talent.

So kick ass and represent the SGV. And to all the haters, you are hating on yourselves. SGV football is real, and this game matters to us all.

    Good Luck Amat

  • WC Dad

Well said CO Parent. We get so caught up in these blogs that seem to insult and put down the teams and players, instead of realizing that these are kids playing a viscious game.

I understand that we want to support our own teams, and that we live in a free country with freedom of speech. But wouldn’t it be nice if we read more positive messages on here, rather than all the crap some of these parents and alumni post?

WC has a big game, where we need to prove we can hang and beat a Div 1 school in Loyola this Friday. And Amat represents us SGV teams as they face off with the OC, and the #1 team in the OC to top it off.

So I hope all the SGV teams, parents, and alumni can appreciate that we are tied together being in the SGV, and although we are competative against eachother, we can support eachother when we battle a common foe.

Lets go WC / Let’s go Amat !!! Represent !!!

  • Amat Bully

My point is notice that CO is ranked ahead of two Pac5 schools, so not only does i think CO can compete in the pac5 but the writer from the Latimes think so to, or he wouldn’t had ranked us ahead of a couple of Pac5 respectable teams.

  • jcaz

A bit of a surprise that Aram has Charter Oak losing.

One more thing. A couple of years ago when St Bonnies came to Kiefer, I caught a lot of flack over that game.

Right now, it’s very difficult to say just how well this Amat team will do against Servite, however, this one thing must be kept in perspective, and that is that Amat really didn’t get serious in that garfiled game until Garfield almost scored a touchdown.

If you recall, Rio came into the game in the series immediately following that defensive stop. So weather not Amat had their starters out on that field (for most of the first half) really plays a big roll in that final score.

Amat offense had no trouble moving the ball against the bulldogs after Rio came in, and really, Garfield was fortunate to have escaped with only giving up 14 points.

One thing here however and that is that you can’t ignore the way Garfield pushed Amat around on their offensive side of the ball. They were big and they were very good, and this is where I believe that this game is going to be won or lost. In the trenches

  • Just sayin’

Bully Boy – Bosco hasn’t made the playoffs since 04 and Loyola only once in the last 5 yrs. Is that what you think you compare to? The non-playoff Pac 5 teams. yeah – about right. bottom third for sure

  • Nate

LA beats Bellflower & Wilson next week to start the season 3-0 before their 1st loss @ Ayala. I’m predicting they go 5-4 (Wins: ER, Bellflower, Wilson, Rowland, Walnut & losses Ayala, West Co, Bonita, Diamond Ranch) with a playoff spot on the line week 10 @ home against Diamond Bar.

    CO fan,

Hold your horses. You could not even compete in the inland division last year, let alone a Pac5 division. Try and beat some Inland teams Like Rancho Cucamonga first. You did not even win your Sierra league last year. Pre season rankings dont mean anything. Rancho and Upland are not on that top 25 and both are better than CO!! Week 4 RC at CO to show you rankings mean nothing.

  • TGee

Don’t count all your chickens now. That is a great prediction and outlook for your team. You had a great win over El Rancho and they are nowhere as good as they were in the past. Your first game win is great for your team but remember it is a long season. Good luck the rest of the way and take it easy.

  • Nostradamus

    My latest quatrain:

The team of the bully that is named of the tree
will go down in great flames by the period of three
The team on the list will be swept out the door
and will never be mentioned in print evermore.
The men on their horses very boastful and high
will fall to the inland every friday with a sigh
What once was great but is now not the same
Will be looked down on and laughed at by others of the game.

  • Nate

I agree with you totally! El rancho was no where close to the team they were last year…but this LA team has just about everyone returning from last year and their opponents are not nearly as good as last year. Their closest game was at Bellflower last year, Wilson lost a alot and the Hacienda is not even close to a good as it was last year…so in my opinion they wil play DB for the 4th playoff spot.

  • jcaz

That was actually quite clever, and very funny as well.

Keep in mind that im sure you’ll have someone on the Charter Oak side coming back at you with something, but as long as it’s as good and tasteful (as your post was), then i’ll laugh at that one as well.

    Good one !

  • LA Fan

I agree with you on this one, Los altos has made dramatic improvements and look to make some noise come league. Bellflower should be a good test since they are ranked top 10 in the southeatern division by maxpreps. But that last game against DB could decide the last playoff spot. Season is young and I wish the conquerors the best this season

  • Nostradamus

The bully will challenge all things that I write
But like a one legged man he will lose badly this fight.
His predictions and boasts like NotSince the same
But all that read here will know they are lame.
The things that I see have been proven to come true
These two fans of the chargers this year will be blue.
They scream and discredit all others that play
But the valley will smile at the end of the day.
They stand and they preach from the top of the pulpit
If you can’t dazzle with brilliance then baffle with bull$hit….

  • Amat Bully

LOL you are a funny and intelligent dude. only problem is just like the real Nostradamus your predictions and metaphors will also be debunked.

But they’re fun to read keep up the good work

  • 12th man

Why not take Keppel again this week?? lmao…

  • Unreal…

Going on record… Amat will win and West Covina will beat Loyola. It’s going to be a huge night for the SGV Amat will knock off the #1 team in the state and WestCo will take down Loyola.

Loyola is has been down for a few years, their last decent year was when they had Anthony Barr. I think WestCo’s speed will be a real problem for Loyola.

Amat coaches will work their magic and I believe Jalen Moore is going to have the game he needs to open prove he is a legit Pac-12 running back. Historically, whenever Amat establishes the run and controls the flow of the game they give themselves a decided advantage.

    GO AMAT!!!

I love the faith you have in your Amat team. They are very good, but Servite is at another level from everyone right now. There is no way Amat beats Servite. I saw the Servite game and that dee is awesome. Amat only had 14 points against a mediocre garfield team. Sorry but Servite 26 Amat 0.

Loyola 28 West Co 24.. I am pulling for west covina, but they are not used to playing the top divisions. they only dominant the lower divisions, they barely beat Covina..enough said..

  • IQ’d

    Amat Bully said:

“Nostradamus. LOL you are a funny and intelligent dude…”

  • Unreal…

I get it. Everyone has bought into the hype that servite is unbeatable. Amat struggled against Garfield last year also. I really think if amat can run the ball they will control the game and come out victorious. At the end of the day these kids are a high school kids and it will come down to coaching.

Btw… Servite is deserving of the hype. They had an incredible season last year and they also have a great coaching staff.

Amat has slayed giants in past and they have the team to do it again.

    Go AMAT!!!

  • par for the course

Orange Lutheran struggled with them the next week. I’m sure they didn’t think they were mediocre at halftime of a 10-3 game. Or after the 15-3 final. Kenedy went home with their tail between their legs after losing to Garfield in the playoffs and I know Carson didn’t feel they were mediocre after struggling in Garfield’s final game of the year too.

    @Steve R. and Aram T. – “Et Tu……..?”

  • what speed ?

Newsflash west co does not have great speed this year. Frazier broke and had a wide open field, and was caught from behind. With out Solomon where is the big speed on the field? On Defense Meaders is Fast but outside those two west covina is not a speed team.

  • CO Alum

I personally think it would make a nice statement for CO to handle Roosevelt this Friday night. I think CO may have to battle but it would make a nice impression on the Inland Division as this season continues to unfold.

  • Amat Bully

I didnt say you were just him and who cares that he’s a lancer he’s funny and the way he put his words together was intelligent. Dont take another man’s credit he did that not you.

  • jake

2009 Amat went into oc and took down Orange Lutheran, who was said to be unbearable. That same year they went into veterans stadium and almost did the same to long beach poly, who went on to win it all.
This Friday servite can do their little dance, talk all the trash, but Amat will beat them.

  • CoFootball12

Ya but regardless “Frank” they still come to Co because they have a respectable football program. It it is what it is. Best of luck to Bishop Amat against Servite, Bishop can win this game in my opinion they just have to control the clock and IF Servite makes any mistakes they must capitalize. Bishop must play a close to perfect game also. GO CHARGERS AND GO LANCERS!! P.S. West Covina doesn’t stand a chance ha!

  • Nostradamus

The teams of the bowl are split with strife,

  • ????

    LA Fan,

You like the tribune are looking at that El Rancho win based on last years El Rancho team not this years. You don’t realize this isn’t the same coaching staff. This new varsity staff is the local youth program coaching staff. I think your program is going to have a very rude awakening against Bellflower.

At least you broke that loading streak at their expense.

  • what gives?

????…Schreimen! You are back! Why don’t you just stop with the LA bashing! Dude get a life. Find a hobby or better yet find a boyfriend! We all know you go both ways…It’s all over the Heights!

  • ??? is clueless

Your wrong!! Same head coach as last year and year before that.

    Get a clue.

  • Jefe

How anyone could pick Amat over Servite is beyond me.

Seriously, that’s just homerism at it’s finest.

Amat will not be able to move the ball on that Servite D whatsoever.

    Servite by 3 touchdowns.

Jefe – You are entitled to your opinion but I have to ask? Have you seen Servite play this year? No doubt #18 is a physical speciman BUT he misses a lot of tackles, don’t get me wrong, he makes a lot too but he can also miss a key one too(I hope when he does it’s in our favor). IF you have seen them this year, you surely saw that their secondary is by no means a strength. If we can exploit that secondary we can put up points AND they still have to STOP J. Moore. Our D-line MUST COME TO PLAY. I hope the boys feel the lifted pressure of being the under dog with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Come out ready Lancers and lets show’em something!!!
    Let’s go AMAT, Let’s GO!!!
