Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera broke a school record for touchdowns and passing yards in a game, throwing for 451 yards and six touchdowns in Friday’s 48-21 victory over rival Temple City. The senior is off to an amazing start with 716 yards and ten touchdown passes in his first two games, averaging 358 yards. He eclipsed his own single-game record of five touchdown passes, which he accomplished last season against Mountain View, a mark he shared with Gabriel Agredano (1993) and Dominic Salmon (2005). For the single-game passing yardage record, Rivera passed Agredano’s record of 414 yards, which was set in a 1993 playoff loss to Anaheim. If we handed out players of the year after two weeks, Rivera wins it hands down.
