Girls Volleyball: St. Lucy’s cruises past Bonita; Azusa wins in five over Covina

St. Lucy’s 3, Bonita 0

St. Lucy’s front line was too much to handle for the Bearcats (2-1) and were defeated 25-13, 25-21, 25-13 Bonita’s Victoria Dennis led the her team with 12 kills, while Kaitlyn White had four blocks Offensively, setter Sarah Bruchet recorded 19 assists and Kassie Mejia had seven digs.
Whittier Christian 3, Fullerton 1
The Heralds (6-0) received outstanding performances from Deanna Blaine and Kylee Wolfe who recorded 13 and 10 kills respectively. Ashley Hunter had 23 digs and Jaden Louie chipped in with 39 assists.
Alverno 3, South El Monte 0
Jessica Hamilton’s 17 kills helped Alverno (4-0) stay unbeaten, 25-13, 25-13, 25-20.
Sienna Paciulli and Lauren Tunzi chipped in with seven and five kills respectively.
Azusa 3, Covina 2
Azusa (2-0) rallied from a 13-10 deficit in game five to stay unbeaten 25-22, 13-25, 25-21, 15-25, 16-14. “We played with alot of heart and fire in that last game, especially when we were down,” said Aztecs coach Tim Bazyouros. Andriah Afati recorded 16 kills and 14 blocks for Azusa. Erika Maldonado chipped in with 10 kills and six blocks, while setter Kristen Hipolito helped her team with 21 assists and Kristen Duke had 26 digs. Covina (1-1) was led by Janell Bush with 14 kills, Dre Mercado who had 13 kills and five blocks. Haley Adams added 13 kills and six aces.
Baldwin Park 3, Mountain View 2
Baldwin Park (4-1) overcame a 2-to-1 game deficit to edge Mountain View 25-12, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10. Offensively, the Braves were led by Zuly Carpio’s six aces and setter Cynthia Rivera’s 15 assists. On defense, Jazmon Deleon had 12 kills and three blocks, while Ana Chavez chipped in with eight digs.
Monrovia 3, Charter Oak 0
Charter Oak’s (5-4) Mariya Heidenrich had 13 kills and Briana Hilton added 10 kills but, that was not enough as the Wildcats defeated the Chargers 25-21, 25-18, 25-15.
