Thursday Final: Damien makes it look easy against Chaffey, 52-6; Rowland hangs on for 20-19 win over Rosemead; Mountain View wins again

Thursday’s results
Damien 52, Chaffey 6 — Spartans QB Gage Pucci threw two touchdown passes, and should have had another if not for a dropped pass in the endzone. But the key was running back Jalen Castille, who ran for two touchdowns and gave the offense what it needed, a steady presence in the backfield that allowed the offense to move at will. Now comes the big test, Amat at home next week.

Rowland 20, Rosemead 19 — Even with its offense bogged down for most of the night, the Rowland High School football team had just enough moxie to get past host Rosemead on Thursday night. The Raiders took advantage of four Rosemead turnovers and got a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Terry Ford with seconds left before halftime to eventually pull out a 20-19 win.

Mountain View 16, Sierra Vista 14 — Special teams can be the difference when young teams meet in early-season games. That proved to be true in Mountain View High School’s 16-14 victory over Sierra Vista in a nonleague encounter Thursday night.

Rancho Christian 20, Duarte 13 – Our apologies for not covering the Falcons game. It would have been nice if someone at the school let us know they changed the date of the game at the last minute. In any case, the Falcons lose a tough one.

Now your talking about kicking something against a team with a rating of 48.7? Was tonights game really the Spartans as a whole. If that’s the case then Aram’s take on DR looks that much better

    You’re a joke. And yes, bring on Amat. You think we’re afraid of them? Wait and see what happens when they come to our house next week. Amat is in for a beating part two. I know they have a few hurt players, but after we’re done with them, they will need to bring up some JV players to have a squad left.

    Hagerty is worried about Damien, and being embarrased this year, and so are the Amat fans across the SGV.

    Everybody knows the rankings and ratings are a croc of you know what. You have to come and play on Friday night. I’m not gonna say that we will destroy Amat, or say we will beat them down, because I know they are a good team. But I know we are a much better team this year than last year. And next week’s game will be close, with Damien pulling it off.

    By the way, Amat still has to go up a strong La Mirada team tomorrow. LM should have beat Powerhouse La Habra last week, but choked in the last minute. Amat might not make it past LM tomorrow and be even more demoralized with back to back losses.

    Amat, we’re waiting.

    I’m neither an Amat nor Damien fan. I’m a Bosco grad, who resides in Covina.

    Remember, Amat is realing from the Servite game. They will take that game as a lesson, and want to beat up on their nonleague opponents to prepare for Serra League play.

    Be careful what you ask for, as you just might get it next week.

    I neither root for Damien nor Amat, but it’s funny to read this blog and see how Damien fans react after a deceiving win against Chaffey. Your JV squad could have given you a better game.

    Trust me when I say Damien people are not writting this stuff about Amatt.
    If you have been on the blog you know the Damien faith aren’t happy and a win over lowly Chaffey not going to change that.
    Some people are just trying to stir the pot.
    Just like the last week when people came on saying Chaffey was going to kill Damien y throwing all over them with their athletes.
    That stuff was nonsense and so is this.
    Damien hopes to make it a better game than last year.

    Pucci – 4-11 one of his TD passes was a screen pass like last week. Not stellar especially against Chaffey. Amat, Charter Oak and Chino Hills aren’t Chaffey…LOL

    Crow all you want, Damian beat Chaffey 35-0 last year and we see what that got them….4th place and out of the playoffs……so I wouldn’t start beating you chest until you beat a “quality” opponent.

    I might agree with you other then the fact that it probably isn’t AMAT people at all but haters posting knowing the blog will automatically go to your thought of it being someone from AMAT . I think you know well enough Hags will put the fire in them without help from the Faithful .We keep the fire lit on Friday night by the turnout at the games. But go to Aram’s blog and you just might have a different opinion on your take.

    Chaffey a doormat? Hardly! They have been down the last 2 years but calling them doormat makes you sound ill informed and stupid. Keppel is a doormat. Ontario is a doormat. Chaffey, up until last year went to the CIF Playoffs 9 consecutive years reaching the semis twice and were 2 points away from shocking Los Osos and going to the semi’s for a third time in 2008.They won league titles in 2004, 2005, and 2008. They finished second in 2006 and 2007 to 2x CIF Champ Colony. now I agree they are not a high caliber opponent for Damien but at the time the schedule was set (2008) they would have given Damien everything they could handle.

    I would never call any team a door mat, that’s just immature and ridiculous. But some teams have been really down the last few years. Amat needed a blow out win like Damien needed one. Amat got their’s against La Mirada, while Damien got their’s against Chaffey. So there you go, both teams riding high after this week’s big blow outs. What does that mean for next week?

    I believe Damien is an improved team from last year. I think they will play an inspired game at home next week. But I believe they are still a tier or two away from competing against Amat. I don’t think Amat blows them out like last year. But I see the score being something like 31-14.

    Let’s be realistic, Amat is not big up front, so that does let opponents compete more against us this year. But what we lack in size, we more than make up in skill positions and speed.
