Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours; Going with Amat and Charter Oak upset over Rancho

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.
Last week: Robledo (21-4); Tolegian (17-8)
Season standings: Robledo (51-22); Tolegian (50-23)

Last week: Trailing Aram by three entering the week, I surged to the lead with the “swing” picks, taking La Serna over Bonita, South El Monte over Workman, Mountain View over Sierra Vista and Elsinore over Diamond Ranch, all games that Aram missed. We both lost with West Covina over South Hills, Glendora over Colony, Bloomington over Pomona and Baldwin Park over Cantwell, but that was it. Looks like we will be neck and neck throughout the season.

This week’s games: Amat-Damien is the game of the week, and what I found interesting after Damien’s blowout over Chaffey was Spartans RB Jalen Castille saying they’re tired of talking about beating Bishop Amat, they need to prove they can do it. Great for him, they need to feel confident. The Spartans should make it a more spirited game than last year, and winning would shut up a lot of Damien and Gano doubters (they’re 2-0), but it’s not going to happen, not after the way Amat bounced back last week against La Mirada. For the Spartans, this is their Servite. What they can’t do is get blown out at home, they have to make it a game, and will. They just aren’t ready to win this yet. The other big game is obviously Rancho Cucamonga at No. 1 Charter Oak. I can’t believe Rancho is a 17-point favorite on Calpreps. That’s disrespectful, but who who are your going to shout at, a computer? I don’t know why, I just believe this is the year the Chargers get it done and win their biggest step-up game in years. It’s time. I’ve been waiting for this. I’m glad Rancho routed Muir because it will make a Chargers win that much sweeter. The Chargers already have three quality wins over Glendora, Eisenhower and Esperanza, but on Friday they prove they can beat one of the best the Inland has to offer, and if they win, in my eyes, would be completely worthy of the number one spot in our poll, regardless of what Amat does to Damien. Why? Because when you look at quality wins, if Charter Oak beats Rancho Cucamonga, it would be the Valley’s biggest quality win to date. Although Glendora looked good in a win over Colony, I still like West Covina because the Bulldogs looked great against South Hills’ run game, and the Tartans won’t pass it around the park like South Hills did on West Covina. How about Monrovia at San Dimas? They’re 2-2 against each other and each with a title the last two years. Here we go again, except this time, I have to go with Monrovia. If the ‘Cats lose again after their humbling loss to Arcadia, they couldn’t stomach in Mtown, especially with South Hills visiting next week.

Note: Aram will update his picks later

Fred how do you define a quality win? As far as I can see Charter Oak has only played one decent team. Esperanza is the bottom of the barrel in the oc and Glendora one of the weaker teams in the SGV, maybe not the worst but definitly not a top ten when we consider whole SGV. I think this is a good game for CO and will give them some credibility if they beat Rancho. Good luck to them!
Amat@ Damien, I dont think will even be close, Damien might be a little better and tired of losing to amat. But, Amat losing to Servite has put a serious chip on their shoulder and they will probably demolish Damien. (sorry Guys)From what I’ve seen Amat is figuring their team out and will only get better every week. think of what they did to La Mirada wiht several key guys injured.
Monrovia Getting owned by Arcadia, makes them suspect. They should beat San Dimas but I expect a close game.

  • Fred Robledo

Quality: meaning better than average, which opponents Glendora, Roosevelt and Esperanza fall under. Look, Glendora is 1-2, but it hung with Charter Oak and Monrovia, then Charter Oak beat Colony. Roosevelt was a top ten Inland team when Charter Oak beat them, and Esperanza was 2-0 … all quality wins for the Chargers, now it’s step-up time….

  • Frank

Sorry Fred but I can’t agree that Glendora and Esperanza are quality wins. Aram has glendora ranked 25th which I would consider below average. If you want to argue that Glendora hung with M-town, who just lost to Arcadia, it is becoming a weak argument. I beginning to think Monrovia may not be that strong. As for Esperanza both their wins were against weak opponents. So I only see Co with a quality win against Roosevelt. Now if Co can step up and beat Rancho, that will say a lotn and justify a #1 ranking.

  • Fred Robledo

I don’t care where Aram has Glendora ranked, they could be 2/3 of the teams in the Valley……Remember, the Colony team they just beat also head beaten Ayala and South Hills….quality wins are more important than overall records…

  • SGV Dude

In order to really find out who is best in the SGV, Charter Oak needs to play Amat. The other two teams that need to be in this mix are W. Covina and La Habra. These by far are the four best teams in the SGV. All the other teams are at least one to two tiers below these four teams.

Amat playing Damien might have a little rivalry flavor, but how much longer are we going to see Amat beat up on those boys over at Damien? Damien is a third place team, at best, in their own league.

Charter Oak has respectability this year. Their win over Bonita was good, but now we are seeing that Bonita really isn’t very good this year. Esperanza is weak. Their game against Rancho will tell us much more in regards to how good CO is this year.

WC and LH are good, and they deserve to be mentioned with Amat and CO.

Rancho or Charter Oak has not really played a quality team yet. This will be a very good game to measure both teams by. Rancho beat Silverado, Great Oaks and Muir a combined 3 and 6. Muir was ranked 3rd or 4th in their division dont think they were that good. Great Oaks overated, they run a double wing and are a running team, very predictable.

Charter Oak has played Glendora, Roosevelt and Esperanza combined record of 3 and 5 not very good teams either. Roosevelt was missing their starting QB and RB and are 0 and 2..

We scrimmaged Colony and 1st team scored 4 straight TD’s and the defense shut them out. They are not good at all. Do not use them to measure a quality win. Glendora cant throw they run a double wing and are very predictable.

Both teams I feel have something to prove this Friday and I think it should be a great game.

Good luck to both teams, looking forward to the game.

  • Norco

Fred Roosvelt was considered a top ten team with all their starters playing….In the CO game Roosevelt played without its starting QB & both RB and from what Im told by buddy who coaches at Roosy..they had another six kids out that game…. Even with 2nd stringers in… They had a chance to beat Charter Oak.

.As for Espy…come on now they are now a D6 team…

Also Espy two win where against : Divison ELEVEN Whittier Christian

    And Divison NINE Santa Ana

Ya real impressive…RC wins this one in dominate fashion…

  • prediction

With west co’s injuries I think glendora may come out on top in this one. They looked strong and should have blown out Colony. Colony’s 2 touchdowns were both long deep passes both 50+ yards on blown coverage. Other than that Colony did pretty much nothing. And I believe no one has an answer to stop Skyler Crall that kid is a stud. Has d-1 size.

  • DHS

Im a Damien man, but reality is reality. Damien is not quite up to what they need to be to beat amat. Damien is a much improved team and I think will only get better, but they still lack a quality QB and the team speed that is needed to compete with and beat amat. The newcomers did improve the team, but not 47 points worth of improvement. The game will be much closer than it was last year, but unfortunately I think it will be the same result. amat wins 24-14. Go Spartans!

  • Lancelot

SGV Dude- Not trying to talk smack but it will sound like it….Amat really has no reason to play local teams, other than it’s what the people want. I would rather see them play other teams outside the area.

  • Brea

How good is this Brea team this year? I know that they aren’t SGV but I hear they are significantly better than last year. If DB does manage to beat them it would be a shocker.

  • RCFOOTBALL, Grow a pair!

Are you crazy. You really think Charter Oak is going to give you guys a good game? You guys are going to destroy Charter Oak because you guys are going to control both sides of the line of scrimmage. The RC line, O and D, are not only strong and quick but they are huge. Their second team lines would destroy Charter Oaks 1st team. It won’t even be close. Weren’t you knuckleheads (Aram, Fred and Miguel) saying how Muir was going to give RC a good game and it was going to be a close game. Fred, you either haven’t seen RC in person or ur just giving CO way to much credit, or both!

  • SaintsR4real

If and when you do the 2 minute drill for Monrovia vs San Dimas, can it just be you and Miggy? Aram has no clue about what both teams have shown in the past couple games, so he should have no say.

Question, does Glendora have a similiar play book as San Dimas, with 2 or 3 backs in the backfield and throwing about 15 percent of the time?? If so, that would be Something I’m sure. both teams can review and use.

This game is, by all means coming down who has the better offensive blocking. Yeah, I know, with all the hype, Monrovia is favored in this game. Heck, I guess that’s why they got your vote.

All in all, win or lose, great game, play with nothing but sportsmanship and best of luck to my Saints!!

  • The U

Hey Fred you forgot to mention that Colony Starting QB was out for the Glendora game and anyone will tell you he is the best athlete on that team and therefor I believe the Glendora result would have been very similar to Ayala and South Hills…All 3 of those teams are average at best…….Rancho 38 Charter Oak 14

  • Fred Robledo

    R.C……Muir is not Charter Oak….

  • LA Futbol

LA has beaten up on three pretty awful teams. Now we get Ayala. Time to find out if our boys are contenders or pretenders. If we can get a W vs. the Bulldogs, I think we have a legit shot at taking 2nd place in the Hacienda!

Show us what you’re made of boys!

  • hey the U

Hey the U, so who is Colony’s qb? Because there were two qbs that played #7 and #12. And they replaced eachother when neither one could produce. So what number is their star qb?

Normally when we are about to play each other, the CO & RC bloggers are always going for each others jugular! Glad to see that the conversation is cordial. It will definitely be a great game, this game always tends to bring a full house on both sides.

CO vs Roosevelt was a bad game for CO a lot of mistakes and the defense decided to take a night off as far as stoping the pass game. CO never lost control of the game and was moving the ball at will againt Roosevelt.

    The U,

Do you really think CO will only score 8 more points than Muir did with RC??? Your out of your mind, we have the best QB in the Valley and possibly the Inland too!

    Ceee Ohhhhh

  • White Fang

DHS, Will you settle for Amat-42 Damien- 0?

Any logical football fan knows CO is a way better team than Muir.. I would never compare those 2 teams, CO is way better than Muir. You and others thought it would be a close game, wrong. Muir only scored on our Second Defense with about 3 min to go. 1st Defense still has not given up a point. The only reason we only scored 35 is because those refs out there were flag happy(on both teams). We had 10 penalties for 115 yards in the first half alone.

I do not know who started that Rancho invasion on the blog, but I really do not think it was a Rancho Person. Think it was someone trying to get Muir fired up to step up their game.
Muir was the ones that were out of control on the blog and even after the game was over they were still saying they were the better team. I dont know what game they were at, but it could not of been ours.

Aram or Tolegian whoever was doing that video with you really called out a 7 on 7 passing league game to rate us by.. We all know that is just pitch and catch have fun football. We were not good, but somehow won every matchup???

I know CO is a solid team, but they have not seen a team like ours this year. O-line 6’3″ 305lb average. D-Line 6’2″ 280 lb average.

Dimitri Morales (QB) is twice as good as Santiago there is no comparison. So settle down on the comparisons, that matchup goes to RC all day long.

I dont know about smashing anyone, but I do think Rancho will win by a couple of scores.

  • PAC5 Fan

    SGV dude,

Since when did La Habra become part of the SGV? I think they are still considered a North Orange County Team.

Logical football fans know the difference between Muir and CO. No Comparison. Just like Rancho is no comparison to Glendora,Roosevelt or Esperanza.

Both teams bring great players to the dance, but our Dancers just happen to be Gigantic and usaully squash their partners, which will probably be the case this week. O-Line 6’3″ 300 lb average and D-line 6’2″ 280 lb average. That is something CO has not seen.

I would take Morales(qb) over Santiago any day and any game. Our 1st dee still has not given up a point yet, Are even better than I thought they would be. They have tons of speed and size and have just dominated all 3 games.

I do not know what the final score will be to the game, But if CO can not put up 28 or more point they will not win this game. I think they might be able to score 1 or 2 td’s at the most.

We will see on Friday, Remember these are young men and you never know what will happen at gametime under the lights. That is why they play the game. All these blogs are just fun to banter back and forth.

RC fan easy on the growing of pairs, no need for that. I would sound like the Muir fans if I wrote what you wanted. Their football knowledge is below average at best…

  • Conq’76

Size is important, but keep in mind, season in and season out, De La Salle handily beats teams with larger lines. Coaching is so very important at this level and can, on occasion overcome bigger opponents.

  • saladays

I’ve seen all the Hacienda teams and LA has a legit shot at league as long as the Qb and big back stay healthy.

  • The U

Hey the U….Colony’s first two games Simko barely played and they went 2-0…Simko started and played most of the game versus Glendora throwing for almost 300 yards which resulted in a loss….Im sure Bechtel was seeing what would work and what wouldnt come league time…Enjoy your W Glendora because you will only be getting 1 win in the Baseline and that’s Alta Loma

  • The U

SGV Football……Yes I do believe that you will only score 8 more points then Muir did and thats being generous…..Im glad you have the best QB in the SGV but lets not carried away by saying in the inland….Hopefully you import some linemen to keep him on his feet come friday night

  • Steve Ramirez

Pac5: La Habra is part of the SGVN coverage area, which makes it part of the extended SGV.

  • Bigger fish to fry

    The U,

Instead of worrying about Glendora, maybe you should be worrying about getting your asses handed to you by Norco, Loyola, Etiwanda and RC. You’re 3-0 now but you will be 3-4 by the time you play Glendora.

  • SEM…

  • CO Bro

    RC & The U,
I can appreciate your enthusiasm for your team in as much as you believe CO does not stand a chance against the vaunted RC team. You keep telling us how big your players are and that Morales will torch the CO defense. I only hope you will return to the blog on Saturday morning and give us an HONEST assessment of CO because I firmly believe CO will dominate RC in every aspect of the game.
Good luck to both teams and the cream will rise to the top.

  • For Reals?

SGV: How can you come here and make a statement like that? Best QB in the valley and possibly the Inland? seriously?? All i see is a QB that is trying to get more rushing yards then his RB but he will soon learn he is not a running back just like RC taught him last year. By FAR Morales is the Better of the 2 without a doubt im sure there are a few recruits that saw him this summer at the combines, by the way QBs are allowed to go to these events…SIZE DOES MATTER

  • LA Futbol

You really think LA can beat West Co? Seems to me that the Bulldogs are in a class of their own in the Hacienda. Hard work and discipline will take you far, but there is only so much you can do when the other team is clearly bigger, faster and stronger than you. But we can hope, huh?

    Co Bro,

The nice things about these blogs we can all state our opinions about our teams and topics. Sometimes we nail it and sometimes we eat crow. Just like you we all support our teams and we all are going to talk up our teams and believe they are going to win. That does not always happen but we always give support to our boys win or lose.

Like you said, you like our enthusiasm for our team I like the way you support your team. I cant wait to see CO dominate us just like they have the last 3 years..LOL!!!!!

Remember Size matters!!!!! In football and in life..HAHAHA!!!Dont believe anyone that tells you different.

Get one thing straight, I never said Morales would torch you all I just think he is better than Santiago. Read the print not between the lines.

Good luck Co and I do hope it is a great game and everyone stays healthy.

  • Dr. Bombay

“I’ve seen all the Hacienda teams and LA has a legit shot at league as long as the Qb and big back stay healthy.”

    Off your meds again, huh?

  • Checking In

I have to go with the consensus—-the Spartans are not ready to compete against the likes of Amat at this point. Saw them against a very poorly coached Chaffey team—-that blow-out was no achievement.

Chaffey has a big line physical line (both sides), some skilled athletes, but the coaches aren’t using any of it—it’s a shame really.

My Spartans get another lesson on how far they need to go, losing to Amat 34-10.

  • The U

Bigger Fish to Fry…..Thats the funniest crap I have heard in a while….I dont think Upland would ever worry about the mighty Glendora Tartans first off, they are the 3rd worst team on our schedule so dont flatter yourself..Lets see lose to Monrovia who loses to Arcadia and your taking crap (LMAO)…….And as far as 3-4 goes make sure you come back on here to say that your predictions are like your team CRAPPY….

Flattered that some one is trying to draw me in by using variations of previous screen had plenty to choose from…lol but I haven’t been on herein almost a year after Fred and Aram did me the favor of blocking my IP address almsot a year ago (might be less by a few months)

    Gano…love him
    Coaching staff..respect them
QBs…don’t care…let them work it out
    Team..wish them the best
    Puccis…seem nice enough…lol
Sr. Parents…hey they have a right to their beef
Bishop…lost respect for them last year but they’re a load
Game…just shut up, man up and play
    Education…hand’s down Damien…lol
Alumni…Amat and Damien…toss up but both lose to Salesian’s.
NotSince…love the guy…but not me..using that logic…I would have been King
Blog…one day we’ll actually talk football until then…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
BTW…love what Gano’s doen for the culture at Damien…worth every penny

Hope for a great game…stillfind it hard to believe if Damien played Garfield the Bishop Faithful would hav ecried foul…lol What a joke that is…any chance Salesian gets another game last time it was 12-6! At least according to Whitey….have fun…Amat 73…shocked you would not KNOW some one is just stirring the pot…lol

  • AMAT 73

My Friend Sparta if it truely you ,
Saw the kids a while back . You have been truely blessed with your kids. Great group. I know about the pot, but it’s ok to throw some seasoning in the stew every once in a while , don’t you think . After all it is this blog’s way isn’t it . As you say not much football talk on here so what else is there to do and maybe that has to do with so many old time bloggers abandoning it. Good hearing from you and maybe I will see you at the game . I mentioned to someone I would look them up in the pit at the game . You know who .

  • Family First

Yeah Amat 73 life has a way of humbling us all but fortunately I’ve been blessed so why complain…lol

Haven’t seen the Lancers this year but have a pretty good idea what their game plan will be against Damien. Seen Damien this year twice and they will show up and play balls out…hopefully that’s enough. The game will be decided in two speed and line play. Whoever has more will win.

I’m still scratching my head about Hagert’s scheduling…has the traveling recruiting show paid off dividends? Seems people laughed at me when I said the Fish Bowl would do well to play Garfield, Salesian, Cathedral, Roosevelt and other ‘barrio’ schools…now Salesian will go up against Maranatha as both are undefeated. Last year Salesian lost to Maranatha on a two point conversion with no time remaining…so there’s that!

Amat 73…I will say this…you’ve always been a class act with me and my family…hope every one’s fine and God continues to bless us with both hands. Always remember “once you’re Family…you’re always Family”.

  • Big Hawk

Hey Fred, this is another blog that the Cucamonga fans will takeover starting tonight. We will invade Covina on Friday with a sea of purple and DESTROY Charter Oak. TOO FAST…TOO STRONG…TOO BIG…Secondary of Rancho Cucamonga has given up under 50 yards passing in three games. On tape the #4 Corner for Rancho Cucamonga is probably one of the fastest kids Ive seen in a long time on the football field. He shut down Kevon Seymour the #91 prospect in the ESPNU 150 and held him to one catch for 3 yards. Seymour had to go to the wildcat to get away from him. The Rancho Cucamonga Offensive line is a mismatch for any team they play. Rancho cucamonga scored 35 points without there key WR/FB. This score will get ugly early. The Cougars 49 Charter Oak maybe 6 if 2nd string in.
