Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours

| | Comments (42) |

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick'em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.
Last week: Robledo (18-5); Tolegian (15-8)
Season standings: Robledo (69-27); Tolegian (65-31)

Last week: Aram got me on two big games, taking Rancho Cucamonga over Charter Oak and Rosemead over San Marino, but I beat him in almost every other toss-up game, taking South El Monte over Nogales, La Puente over Wilson, Baldwin Park over San Gabriel Mountain View over Hoover, Don Lugo over Azusa and Brea over Diamond Bar -- all games Aram missed, giving me a three-game lead for the week, and four-game lead for the season.
This week: More predictable games than any previous weeks, but there are some tough calls, like South Hills-Monrovia, Diamond Ranch-Bonita, and Serrano-Claremont, the rest I feel good about. West Covina should beat Diamond Bar, Amat wins big at home, Los Altos goes to 5-0. In fact, only four teams remain undefeated, Los Altos, Claremont, South El Monte and La Puente, and of all four, Claremont has the best chance to lose.

Aram will update later

Panther Dad and Basic, enjoyed your posts and look forward to a great high school football game between two respected programs and coaching staffs. This type of game with little hype but great tradition that has devolped in just a few years is what makes high school football so much fun, right? See you guys Friday night.

Not to get sucked in by your ignorance BUT...

Your a Jack Butt.... As far as we know...Wilson has more stolen cars parked in their parking lot during school hours than LP. So if anyone's car was stolen that night,it's probably at Wilson!

In recent past, Wilson is the school that has had bomb threats....parking lot sweeps....death threats...lock downs....need I go on...

Next time you wanna put a school down, get a clue!!!

And this blog is for high school football and not haters stupidity!!!

Why aren't you guys picking the Chino Hills vs. Redlands East Valley game? That's a huge Inland Division match up, possibly a playoff game preview.

Come on you can do better than that, seriously your going to come in here with that 95NONSENSE? What a joke and keep to the topic (FOOTBALL), and not SGV currrent events! OUCHY,HAHAAHAH, REALLY, your coming in with that? hahahahah... I know you can do better and i'm glad to see you made it out of the game safely and did you have your car doors locked and windows rolled up? Probably holding on to mommys arm real tight,hahahaha...

Did you have the b_ lls to stop off at boca del rio and have a BEAN N CHEESE BURRITTO! TOO FUNNY.

I know it hurts, losing to the Montview League, but look it this way, YOU MADE HOME SAFELY.

I actually agree with you, none of our cars were bulglarized that i know of, there were no known gunshots heard during the game from the local neighborhood, and the ticket people even spoke some english, yes i agree there is improvement going on

Bonita and DR have a really nice little rivalry going IMO. They always seem to play each other really tough and neither team has yet to win two years in a row which is a better indicator than home or away team winning.

GREAT JOB LA PUENTE!

“The Wilson Witch Trials”

Ah yes…Late September at Wilson.
When the days get shorter, the nights get cooler signaling the beginning of yet another autumn, and of course, marking the start of the annual burning at the stake of the current football coaching staff…just in time for Halloween.

In a few short weeks, Coach Bert has been downgraded from ‘Football Oracle with 50 years of coaching knowledge’…to the old fart that can’t relate with today’s kids.

Who says Wilson doesn’t have a rich tradition.

Go Wildcat Parents!

Aaron, then again the bearcats could have upset the balance of nature last year. Now the winning team is on its home turf.

1. "What about that Covina/Pomona game this week, what are your predictions?

2. "What about Livingston's availability for the Pomona game. Livingston is on facebook posting he is fine. Your coaching staff is giving a different STORY, who do you believe? "

1. http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball/2011/09/all-encompassing-sgvn-top-25-after-week-3.html

2. The coach. Last time I checked he runs the team.
His last comment that I read is that he will know more after Tuesdays MRI. Today is Monday. Mr. Livingston may feel fine. The MRI will tell him if in fact he is so. Yes? No?

@Colt74,
It's a blog and I have every right to comment on any post. Don't like it? I'm at every Covina game look me up and we can discuss what I have a right to do and or don't do in more depth. I'll even buy you a coffee.
Some things never change...Last season it was the coached fault..this year it is the coached fault.

The wheels on the Wilson bus go round and round...

How many log on's you gonna use apathy?

I didn't piss on a hydrant..I pissed on your post.
But then again...you are accustomed to it from what I have read.

Once again, you've proven yourself an idiot.

"Burt is too old...Farrar is just right...."

No idiot. I said Burt was too old to come into a NEW school. Farrar aged with the CO program. (Get it right Dipshiit)

"The past doesn't matter unless it's at CO who are aware of the past... Burts pasts championshps don't matter but Farrars does..."

Once again Dumbazz, I said Farrars accomplishments came at CO as he aged with the program (see above), so the CO players can more easily relate to him.
Burt's accolades are from other schools, and really, another era. Totally foreign to the Wilson players.

Look Jackmo, you're not nearly as smart as you think you are, and you don't need to piss sarcastically on every hydrant you run across. Chill out, and enjoy your senior years. They'll be over before you know it.

Pantherdad,

I don't think that would be the shock of the world for a panther victory this week,DR has always had better athletes than Bonita they have just been outcoached by a better coaching staff from Bonita and Roddy needs to do a AAA job to outcoach Bonita this week. My shocker of the week will be Monrovia over South Hills. Also tune in to CBS channel 2 Sat. morning 9am for Navy vs Air Force game from Annapolis MD.Some local kids playing on Navy squad QB Chris Proctor from Big Bear, OL Josh Cabral from Santa Margarita (Tesoro HS) and OL Graham Vickers Diamond Ranch HS. GO Panthers

Wow said:

Cant blame coach Burt for everything thats going on this year over at Wilson. Yeah his play calling has been VERY questionable, but he has no talent. If u ask me, and thats only if u ask me, Most of the blame should go to MS. PAUL. She doesnt care about the program or those kids. Instead of continue replacing coaches, Wilson should replace its principal MS. PAUL. Get a principal that cares for academics as well as athletics and supports the staff. BTW hope Covina stomps Pomona

If you don't count last year...the away team has won the series between DR and Bonita, I'm thinking the Cats might be clicking at the right time.

"Burt, I'm afraid, is 10-15 years past his prime for a coach coming into a new environment. He has no connection with the kids, and don't try to tell me a 55 year age difference doesn't matter, because it does. It's a much different situation than Farrar who has aged with the program, and all the CO players are aware of his accomplishments at CO. Kids these days don't care about the past history (except for maybe Amat who have dedicated a "shrine" to it). Go ask any of the kids at LA who Steve Lauter, Mike, or Blake Smith are, or the Bentons, Hertals, Hills, Sproul etc... They don't know, and don't care."

One HUGE contradiction after another...

Burt is too old...Farrar is just right....

I bet you ask for a non fat latte with whole milk too....

Apathyonthehill,

Yes, Amat is proud of its' acomplishments. But even though getting that next championship has been challenging, we continue to put good teams on the field; teams that win Serra league championships (2008, 2009). Not to mention we are in a division that Wilson could never compete in.

Take all the shots you want, knowing that your joke of a program is only mentioned as the pit of socal football. See if you can win more than one game this season.

Conq'76 said:

I think in an alternate universe, if I were ever given the Head Coach job at LA, the first few months would be an indoctrination into who "made" the school what it is for the last 35 years.

ApathyontheHill said:

Amazing!

I don't believe anyone at Wilson was bragging their kids up over the summer. You go check the Trib blog archives, and prove me wrong.
No doubt that Wilson parents were happy to see Zavala go, but I think at that point, they were grateful to get anyone to coach the team, short of a convicted felon. Burt, I'm afraid, is 10-15 years past his prime for a coach coming into a new environment. He has no connection with the kids, and don't try to tell me a 55 year age difference doesn't matter, because it does. It's a much different situation than Farrar who has aged with the program, and all the CO players are aware of his accomplishments at CO. For the sake of the future Wilson players, I hope Burt takes an early exit after one, or two seasons, and turns the reigns over to Christos, so the real rebuilding can begin.

smallcitymc,
Most of the injuries are on the defensive side of the ball . Of course if it is a blowout take them out as that would mean they were hitting on all cylinders to some extent. People , even our beloved Trib scribes, were predicting a runaway against Damien and until the second half it was a close game. Before worrying about the depth we need to make sure the first stringers are all on the same page and executing throughout the whole game , not just the second half. Plus our passing game does need work . I think what Hags did on the last possession shows his view on sportsmanship. AMAT almost always will take a knee to run out the clock when the situation arises.

ApathyontheHill,

Not too long ago he was the answer to all of Wilson's problems! Now you are hoping that Wilson will get a win against Nogales? During the summer Wilson fans were bragging about all their D-1 players and their all CIF coaching staff. What happened? That's amazing how things have changed in so little time.

smallcitymc said:

With injuries plaguing Amat to some extent, It would be foolish to keep the starters in assuming the game is a blowout. Moreover, you build depth by playing your backups, not to mention it would be very very poor sportsmanship to heave the ball when your up by so many points.

LA Conq,
Confident in LA??? This is the first time he picked them.

AMAT 73 Author Profile Page said:

Get Real,
Not too sure about pulling those starters out by the 3rd because they could use the game time work. Jalen maybe ( injury factor and if the score warrants it )but the line and others no .We need to work on the passing game . The team that came out in the second have was executing much better and remember we do have a new tackle on the line so they need to work as a unit . Also as they say on any Friday night so lets just look at the game as another tough opponent and play 4 solid quarters of AMAT football .

LA Conq said:

Fred,

How are you so confident in the Conquerors, yet you haven't even been out to see us play yet? Do you have plans to do so?

What I don't get is how Pasadena, against even a Rettig-less Cathedral....only lost 21 to 13...then was fortunate to hang on for dear life vs La Salle last Friday in 2d half...

Get Real said:

Let's be realistic, even with Rettig, Cathedral had no chance to beat Amat this Friday. What he might have done is throw for more than one touchdown, unlike last year.

Amat's offense would still run circles around Cathedral's defense, as we will see on Friday. ( Rettig didn't play defense, did he? )The question is, could Rettig have driven his offense to a not too embarrassing loss?

Hagerty will pull his starters after three quarters as Amat will be up by 35 plus. And we will have a running clock in the fourth to speed up the suffering.

So phantoms, grab an In-an-Out burger, or maybe some kettle corn, enjoy the evening as much as you can.

Answerin' said:

Unfortunately, Rettig is injured and won't play. I would have loved to see him play against Amat. I know Amat is more challenged this year on their line, but I heard their DB's are solid. So who knows what Rettig could have done against Amat's DB's.

Now I think the game will be as big a blowout as last year when Amat won by I think 50. It will be a long night for the Phantoms in La Puente.

Can't you technically win the season predictions if you pick the same teams as Aram from now on? It guarantees you that meal Aram owes you.

PantherDad,

Bonita does not have a great team, they have a good team that is very predictable...AND playing DR always scares me, they seem to always have athletes and an attitude which in the past has been difficult for the Bearcats...However, I think the Bearcats know the magnitude of this game and will prevail in a very close game...24-21...

pantherdad said:

Bonita has a great team, but DR will prevail by at least a touchdown and shock the world!

ApathyontheHill said:

If Burt can't come up with a win over Nogales, I believe a handful of kids will leave the team for other sports. With sports being coached year-round now, there's little reason for them to stay on a torpedoed ship. I guess Los Altos knew what they were doing when they passed on Burt in the spring.

Askin' said:

Here's the question. Is Hayden Rettig playing for Cathedral? He is one of the best QBs in the Sectoion as a junior and will make a BIG difference in the spread (no pun intended) if he plays.
