Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.
Last week: Robledo (16-3); Tolegian (13-6)
Season standings: Robledo (85-30); Tolegian (78-37)

Last week: After picking up four wins on Aram last week, I picked up three more this week. We both missed taking Los Altos over Walnut, Bonita over Diamond Ranch and Baldwin Park over Northview, but Aram also missed taking Wilson over Nogales, Temple City over South El Monte and Bassett over Duarte — three games I nailed.
This week: I’m going to be stubborn and take Diamond Bar over the Ranch. After the way the Brahmas were embarrassed last year, and after Layton saying they will go out and “smack” Diamond Bar, the purple is going to stand up and fight back. Although Damien is favored on Calpreps, I like JSerra at home. I also like Los Altos to bounce back and beat Rowland, and thought Northview will give Pomona a fight, take the Red Devils.

Thursday’s games
San Dimas vs. Nogales at Citrus College, 7 p.m., — Robledo (SDimas); Tolegian (SDimas)
South Hills vs. Los Osos at CDF, 7 p.m. — Robledo (Los Osos); Tolegian (South Hills)
Bishop Amat at Venice, 7 p.m. — Robledo (Amat); Tolegian (Amat)

Azusa at Bassett, 7 p.m. — Robledo (Azusa); Tolegian (Azusa)
Ganesha at Duarte, 7 p.m. — Robledo (Duarte); Tolegian (Duarte)

  • Way to Go Fred!

    Good job Fred!

You’re whooping on the “SGV Football Guru” by 7 games this early in the season.

It just goes to show that someone looking at things objectively usually does much better than someone who has an agenda all the time.

    Keep kicking his tail!

  • feel the roar!

nice for picking all the mission valley league teams that just shows how well it’s doing this year!
can’t wait for league to start next week!

  • Panther leader

Fred, I can’t believe that you are taking DB over DRanch. DB has the softest defense in the entire SGV. A good Jr. All American team would probably put up 30 pts against that defense. I’ve already seen alot of film on DB and they are worse then bad. Mark my words that we put up atleast 50+ against those loosers. Final score Dranch 55 – 0 with our Scout Team scoring the last 21 pts. We might even let a few of our Freshmen come in and put the last couple of daggers in. When we’re thru with DB, they might even consider canceling the rest of the season. After we finish wiping our feet with DB, we look forward to destroying that “smoke and mear” team over there in Westcovina next month. We’ve already seen film of the Bulldogs and they look real shakey.

  • This is why

Comments like those are why people hate DRanch. Stay classy.

Bulldogs will be back healthy and rolling by the time the ranch rolls around. d-ranch talks but never delivers…

After reading the Tribune on Friday afternoon I wanted to make my way over to Diamond Bar WCo game. Due to traffic I went to BoHi DR game. I tried to get Dan’s respectful and bias out take on the game who played well for both teams? He never responded. I wanted to see the defending CIF champs and according to your coach the best QB in the Hacienda. If you can share your info of that game. After reading DR’s coach and Panther leaders calling out the Hacienda I can’t wait to see WCo, DR and the rest of the Hacienda teams against the clASSless bunch at DR. Yes DR beat BOhi but c’mon I’m sure there are a lot more people with CLASS than the CLassLESS over at DR and I feel for the CLASSY people there. Good luck DR’s administration.

  • Weapon-X-Blk

Let me be the first to tell you, there is alot of class at DR, did you hear any talk from our DC no you didn’t, I don’t know what you guys are basing this classes label on. My son is just a straight football player no talking just goes and plays, we are new over here and I don’t have all the history but our Principal and AD are 2 of the classiest women I’ve met. The one thing that’s not being said is that Roddy’s comments came after all the derogatory and racial slurs made by the Bonita sideline

  • Wow

I know u dont make it to the Wilson games, and i dont blame you. I happen 2 go to those games cause i have a family member who plays in the team, so i go and pay $6 every Friday to support him and his team mates. By now i know what im gonna get from the team, i hope for the best but somehow they kill themselves. When they do good i cheer and when they dont, i just shake my head like most parents on the stands. But Fred there’s a few parents that think that the $6 that they pay gives them the right to scream @ the coaching staff and antagonize them. The staff hears these comments but whats worse, the kids hear them as well. My relative told me after the game that they can hear these parents, and that’s very hard 2 concentrate and that comments like that dont help @ all. I wanna ask u Fred if u can give the Wilson administration or the AD a call and ask him 2 remove these people from the stands. or if any of u parents or friends that like to shout @ the staff happen 2 read this post, do the rest of us a favor and save yourself $6 and stay home on friday nights.

  • Hightimes are Lowtimes at La Puente

Speaking of paying six bucks for a game. I went to the La Puente game last week at La Puente and guess what. They start winning a few games and they get cocky and start charging three bucks for parking. Three adult admissions $18 bucks, $10 bucks in concession goodies, $4 bucks for a program, $3 bucks for parking that’s $35 bucks for a high school game. Is it just me or is that a little high.Come on La Puente quit nailing us for parking. It may not be much but I’m sure sure there are families that would have enjoyed a coke or hot dog in the stands but got hit with three bucks in the parking lot.
    LP quit being so greedy.

  • IWantMySixDollars

Are you serious? What happened to free speech? We live in a democracy, not a dictatorship.

It’s not like anyone is insulting head coach Burt with any personal remarks. They’re only making it known that they are unhappy with how he does his job, such as with the plays he calls. Also, the “staff” is not in question. It’s all directed at Burt, as it should be. He calls all the offensive plays, and all the defensive plays.

I haven’t heard anyone complain about the personnel he uses on the field. Nobody is attacking any of the kids, and their effort.

He has a job that is in the public eye. He’s been around the block a few times, and has probably heard much worse, but if he doesn’t like it, he can always leave.

  • no-ste

High Times are Low Times at La Puente,

I also, would like to know about public schools charging anything for parking at a taxpayer funded campus. That parking lot belongs to the people. I know that Chino Hills does the same. Since these parking lots are public property, I’d like to know who authorized these schools to charge for parking, who gets the money, and how is it used?

  • Colt74

Yeah, you have the right to free speech. And the others sitting around you also have the right to watch the game in peace and quiet.

Does anyone making an ass out of themselves screaming at a coach from the stands really believe that they are that important that the coach is going to listen to them? If you were that important or all knowing you would be down there on the sidelines.

You also have the right to smack your head against a brick wall..try that instead of making all around you listen to your vast football knowledge, at the top of your lungs.

  • IWantMySixDollars

Really? Do you really go to a public sporting event for a little “peace, and quiet”? DO you have to chime in on every topic, and continually prove your idiocy?

“If you were that important or all knowing you would be down there on the sidelines.”

So this explains why EVERY ex-NFL player goes into coaching………… Oh wait, but they don’t. Hmmm, another flaw in your logic.

Oh well. Keep trying there big boy. We all enjoy your babbling rambles. lol

  • Warrior Princess

As a parent who has kids who play in multiple sports programs for La Puente High School….whatever it takes to raise money for our football team and players ….so be it!!!!! $3.00 for parking is by choice!

You can park on Glendora Ave in front of the football stadium or park at the La Puente Community Center.

Remember it’s a choice that you make….. So if you don’t want to pay ..than that’s your choice…keep your $3.00

    Thank you…I’m Just Saying

Ps…La Puente High School has Booster Club Meetings every Monday evening near the wigwam…you are invited to come and speak with us… we can tell you where and when our $ are spent….

  • tres dineros

ha ha ha about the parking at la puent the guy collecting the parking money was taking a beating from people complaining

  • Colt74

Tell ya what little man..come to a game I’m at, sit next to me and start screaming in my ear. See what happens.

  • hey six dollars

better listen to colt, unless you are a pro at going to raider games, u better stay out of covina, and if u go take the bus or walk with a group

  • Two Cents

Warrior Princess try telling this to the 78 year old grandmother who just wants to come watch her grandkids. would you tell your elderly mom to park and walk from the community center because shes too cheap and on a fixed income. i bet you dont have to pay for parking admission or anything.yes I offer to take her and pay her way butbeing independent and having pride she insist on going to the game alone or with her sister. You tell two elderly ladies to go park at the community center or on glendora.

Sorry I missed your post, didn’t blog on Sunday, Some of the standouts I can remember in the WC vs DB game were,
Henry Omana[spelling?] the Diamond Bar QB was the stand out player for the Brahmas, the kids a stud with a lot of heart and a nice arm. He threw well and kept getting big chunks of yards with the QB draw play and also scrambled for some nice gains. I like the wide reciever screens they do at DB, would be nice to see that at WC once in a while with the skill guy’s we have.
Diamond Bars line was bigger than most years, #66 and 72 were huge college sized kids. Heard they were missing their stud runningback.
For West Covina Chris Solomon had a couple nice TD runs, plus 157 yards rushing, he is getting healthier each week and you could see some good straight forward burst of speed from him. Jimmy Frazier was his usual dazzeling self, and had a long touchdown run called back on a holding call. I believe he had another TD too. Justin Meaders pressured Omana all night making things difficult for the qb despite being held most of the night. He also had an apparent TD called back on what looked like a backwards pass that he picked up and returned to the endzone, refs apparently called it a forward incomplete pass, I would like to see some film on it oneday.
Gus Vilchis and Lonzell Barnett were also solid in the defensive backfield. The O line went to work again and opened some nice holes for the WC runningbacks. DB looks like they can contend in the Hacienda for a playoff spot, they are a little more physical than in recent years.
Haven’t had a chance to see Diamond Ranch yet, but from what I’m hearing it sounds like Friday will be a good game between the two teams.

  • Colt74

Most fans and parents go to a game to support their kids. It is completely normal to show some enthusiasm and make some noise. Yes, you have that right and you should let the kids hear your support. Now there’s a BIG difference in just being a loudmouth and screaming out your displeasure at the coaching staff for not doing what you want them to do….or screaming at the refs and doing that the whole game. I have no problem telling someone to show some respect the other fans that are around him and have done it before. See, I have the right to not have to listen to some loud, obnoxious, rude, drunk parent too. My rights to enjoy a game override an aholes right to be an ass. At least in my book it does.
If any parent thinks that I paid to sit there and listen to them scream at a coach or the refs the whole game …good luck with that. Sit next to me and my 5 year old grandaughter and scream that the coach or the refs needs to pull their heads out of their a$$ at the top of your lungs. You may do it ONCE……

  • $ for parking, no bueno

    Princess Warrior,

Personally, I think charging for parking is a way of raising money for the football (or other events) team because it’s easier than having a car wash. That’s too bad, because at a car wash fundraiser, it’s a WIN, WIN situation, everybody is happy. Charging for parking is NOTHING MORE than raising the price to see the football game. Let’s be honest, is there any difference on the parking situation ehrn it was FREE to park? If you and your BOOSTER STAFF are gonna give it to your fans, at least spit on it!!

  • Wow

Colt 74, I cant agree with you more. iWantMySixDollars, if you are that displeased with what the coaches are doing, why dont you take over the program and turn it around in a short period of time? Oh let me guess, you tried 2 coach but couldnt get clear by the district, now you feel the right to go and scream from the stands. Or is it that your kid doesnt get any playing time? I have never met a coach in my life that would leave a good player in the bench 4 personal reasons. Every coach has an ego and its trying to win, so if your kid could help the team he would be playing. Now I would love 4 you to tell me how did your shouting help the team or the outcome of the game??? amuse me plz….

  • $ for parking, no bueno

    Princess Warrior,

BTW, Warriors play us at the Covina District field, be prepared to pay $5 for parking, cuz WE HAVE A CHOICE!! Get the drift??

Doesn’t seem right, now does it? This charging for parking is illegal and for the birds!!

  • wchs

    Colt 74,

    SHUT UP!

  • IWantMySixDollars

    Wow & Colt74

ROFL, you are some bitter people. I never said I was doing the yelling, nor that I wished to coach. Only that I respect the right of someone who wishes to, as long as they don’t make it a personal attack, or start calling out the kids. Let’s not pretend that coaching is rocket science, or that these guys on the sidelines with the headphones on, are some sort of demi-gods. Even at the top level, they still make mistakes, and at the lower levels, even more so. That’s why they’re still at the lower levels. And at the same time, you two have come to the conclusion that all fans in attendance are apparently a bunch of drooling idiots, that know absolutely nothing about the game.

    Shortsighted fellas.

  • Colt74

    Bitter??? Not in the least.
I just have ZERO tolerance for anyone that wants to go out of their way to try and ruin what should be a great Friday night experience with their loud mouth.
These idiots that think because they paid to get into the game they have the right to make it unpleasant for everyone else. BS!!!! I paid to watch a game not listen to some screaming idiot.

I have never seen someone twist words around or tell me what I have said so incorrectly, or what my conclusions were as you did. WTF?????
And I don’t care if it’s rocket science or teaching someone how to finger paint. Just because you have a mouth and can scream when ever you feel like it does not mean that the rest of us have to put up with it.

    and wchs..KMA! 🙂

  • Yikes!

Why does LP have to be greedy just because they are charging for parking? They are not the only school that charges, but because they are winning games they’re greedy????

If you people want to know where the $ goes then go to the meetings. Mondays 6pm in the cafeteria area.

These are hard times and there are reasons why a program needs to raise money. For example, helping students with limited means to pay for insurance to play ball, physicals, ASB fees, not to mention, equipment and transportation to games.

    I’m just saying!

  • $ for parking

No one said anything about being greedy on charging for parking. As you said and I agree, times are rough for the needs of a high school sports program, as well as a FAN of a high school sports program. This is why I say, if the kids and coaches really need the funds, get out there and create a service or fundraiser where it will also become alot more appreciated by ALL!

We know the kids need the money, but what you don’t understand is the average joe has no money to donate and wants something in return.

There’s no excuse not to be able to throw a fundraiser, cuz nowadays we have more money than time.

  • $ for parking

sorry…. more time than money 🙂

  • finally

I think Wilson won’t lose this week. But if anyone can figure out how to lose this week its Bert.

  • Schedule Up

If you look at Damien pre-season schedule its pretty weak. If they had a QB they might and I might have given Amat a closer game in the end.

JS isn’t that good this year, so Damien might pull it off. They should count their lucky stars they dont open up with CO. There have to be the favorite to win league…

  • TGee

Thank you for your take on Fridays game between your Bulldogs and Diamond Bar. I will try catching a game this Friday but don’t know where.
Keep your boys healthy at WCo and watch out for Diamond Ranch they’re coming after your Bulldogs.

  • Dan

D Ranch can grab a ticket and step in line cause everybody else on the schedule has been coming after the Bulldogs too, the price you pay for being a champion. Bulldogs are up for it! [Ha! I’m sounding a little like Roddy Layton]

  • Damien loses to JSerra

I would give the edge to JSerra.

JSerra is not that good this year, but Damien is not that good this year either. JSerra has a big o-line and D-line with some tall receivers. Damien can’t hang with tall teams.

    Advantage JSERRA of the Spartans.

    JSerra 28 Damien 10

  • Damien loses to JSerra

I give the game to JSERRA. JSerra is not that good this year, but neither is Damien. JSerra has the big O-line and Big D-line that Damien couldn’t hang with last year, and wont be able to hang with this year. Damien hasn’t improved these lines at all. D-backs for Damien are too small. JSERRA has tall receivers.

Advantage JSerra big guys who hit hard.

    JSERRA 28 Damien 10.

  • pantherdad

Fred will lose betting against DR again. Don’t think Ranch will score 50 on DB, this is not the DB of recent years, but they will win.

After reading the post from “Panther leader” I would bet a paycheck they aren’t from DR…sounds more like a DB coach, player, or parent trying to manufacture some bulletin board material.

    Should be a good game.

  • TGee

Isn’t that the truth when you’re the Champ. Going to the Arroyo vs La Canada since I’ll be driving in from the Valley. WORK WORK WORK

  • Warrior fan

So what you are saying is…Instead of donating $3 for parking which goes to the kids who need insurance you are willing to pay $5 for a car wash that we have already put on? So you would like the kids to spend every Saturday morning washing cars at a car wash you won’t go to because if $3 is too big a donation then ponying up $5 for a car wash isn’t going happen? The fundraisers have been done and there are more to come, but there are still needs. Shoot, some of the lights for the field don’t even work. If you had any clue whatsoever you would understand how tough it is at a low income school, but you don’t have a clue which is why you opened your mouth. So how about you take the time to find out what is going on before you run your mouth again…just because you have the freedom of speech doesn’t mean you should speak!

  • Dan

Enjoy the game, Steven Arroyo was fun to watch at the SGV passing tournament, I can imagine in pads he’ll be even more fun to watch on both sides of the ball.

  • TGee

You are right on with Steven Rivera (Arroyo HS) ha ha I got you.
Tribune Prep Xtra top 5 QB. The only QB I’ve only seen is Santiago from CO.
I may be wrong. Maybe You, ROBLEDO or AARAM can confirm. 4 of 5 QB’s
are leading their league and devisions in passing? Rivera was top 10 in the State passing last time I checked. QB’s Omana DBar, Livingston Cov,
Santiago CO and Rivera AHS. are league and devision leaders?

  • Dan

I don’t know where my mind was when I wrote that, but you got to admit Steven Arroyo has a nice ring to it. He is Mr. Arroyo after all isn’t he? LOL

  • $ for parking

    Warrior Fan,

Really, you knocking on me cuz I’m trying to give you guys insight on how to NOT piss off people. You think Puente is the only school hurting?? Try looking for a solution and not contributing to the economic problems.
First of all, no one said to have a car wash every Sat. Yes, I and alot of others would pay to get their car washed, what’s abnormal about that? You just need to do the work and I think that’s the hurdle here. I’m sure your local car wash charges more than that and believe it or not, there are plenty of people that amazingly still wash their cars. Car washes are one of many services you could provide for funds.
I’ve been doing fundraisers all my life and have lived and played sports in various areas, from very low to higher income areas, and that’s why I open MY MOUTH. Don’t get upset, just realize people don’t have the extra money to pay for ILLEGAL PARKING CHARGES.
