Gabrielino beats Arroyo 25-23, 13-25, 25-22, 25-16: The Gabrielino High School volleyball team may lack the firepower of years past, but the Eagles certainly can play a mean defense and display a lot of heart. "We work on a lot of control," first-year coach Silvia Apodaca said. "We like to control the ball. We teach them to look at the other side of the court."

El Monte 3, South El Monte 0
The Lions remained unbeaten in league play as they swept the Eagles 25-15, 25-14, 25-18. El Monte (13-2, 3-0) received outstanding performances from Luz Mendoza and Cristella Gonzalez, who had nine and eight kills, respectively. Setter Connie To added 21 assists and 12 digs in the win.
