UCLA taking a look at Charter Oak QB Travis Santiago, according to Bruinblitz.com

Bruinblitz.com moderator Rick Kimbrel posted on his site today that UCLA is taking a long look at Charter Oak quarterback Travis Santiago. It's not a huge surprise, the offensive coordinator is Michael Johnson, who starred at Baldwin Park.

Here is what Bruinblitz.com wrote: The Bruins are taking a long look at quarterback, Travis Santiago (6-0, 160, 4.6) from Covina (Calif.) Charter Oak. He has led his team to a 7-1 record after throwing for 2,073 and 18 touchdowns against three picks while hitting on 64.2 percent of his passes. He has also rushed for 492 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 10.3 yards a carry.

Santiago going to UCLA????
Wait till they view his high school transcript? Left South Hills second semester freshmen year to CO with 5 "F"s and was mysteriously eligible for baseball that year. Check his academics and you will see that he is not and will not be eligible for the NCAA Clearinghouse. SAT score???
Junior college is his best bet. Just ask the Dom and Lou how they keep him eligible in high school

As a Bruin fan and not one to bash kids, I am sorry to say that I would be disappointed if Travis went to UCLA as a QB. At 150 pounds he would be KILLED running el pistola! I don't care how fast he is or how good his arm is, if he got tackled one time by a 330 lineman he might literally be squashed to death.

UCLA has some very serious issues if they are focusing on a kid like this unless it is strictly a favor for two old teammates?

I hope Travis' grades are good enough and he gets the opportunity to graduate from UCLA, but let's not kid ourselves, there is not a snow balls chance in hell that he is going to line up behind center in any game at UCLA, sorry, but a dose of reality had to be injected into this discussion

SOS : another thing they look at with their stats is strength of schedule, anyone can run and gun on weak defense. The only film that matters is the RC game as of now all else are losing teams.

SLO was looking at him for a while. However, yYou just can't coach being vertically challenged. It's a nice story but the prototypical QB is 6 inches taller.

size matters. over the years i have been to many combines and camps and have noticed size matters. Yes he is fast and athletic but still. he's 5'10 at the most 155 lbs, but good luck! Also whats the GPA like?

This can very well be true. Mike Johnson was the QB at BPHS in the 80's. he became the starter after Greg Santiago, Travis Dad graduated, and Greg and Mike are still close friends. Look for Travis to be be roaming the halls of westwood next year.

Coltfan97: Because the idea is to recruit an offensive and defensive unit every year, if for nothing else, to provide depth, which is the key to major division football. Plus, you never turn down a quality athlete if you can get one.

I like Santiago a lot!!!! He is a great QB!!!! But my question is why would UCLA go after Santiago when they have five star recruit Brett Hundley waiting in the wings? Just wondering!!!!! I guess you can never too many QB'S!!!!!

Good luck to Travis, better than being a great qb, he is a great person and a winner. Good luck the rest of the way.

What did I tell all you haters! Travis is on the smaller side but you'll be surprised how good shorter QB's are that you wouldn't expect. Russel WIlson of Wisconsin 5'11", Will Stein of Louisville 5'10 185 lbs, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, Troy Smith a previous Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner who stood at 5'11 if that. Travis is plenty capable of being an impact player in college because of his speed. We already know he can hit a dime 50 yards away. He would fit in great in the Bruin offense as well as an offense like Oregon, Washington, and other spread schools in the BCS. All he needs is someone to take a "little" chance on him because he is worth it. He is a competitor like no other, and all those will get him through his size down falls. Someone will take him and he will show you what you never thought he could do at the next level.
