Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.
Last week: Robledo (13-4); Tolegian (14-3)
Season standings: Robledo (173-49); Tolegian (174-48)

Last week: Aram got me by one again, taking the regular season on Friday’s Claremont win over South Hills. We both missed on South El Monte beating Rosemead, Wilson over Baldwin Park and Gladstone over Workman. Those MVL and Montview league games get us every time. I got Aram taking Los Altos over Diamond Bar, but he got me with Gabrielino over Mountain View. But now the fun time is here, the playoffs, and this race doesn’t end until Week 14 is over.
This week’s games: First, no reason to take Bishop Amat, still uncertain whether QB Rio Ruiz will play with that sore knee, and without him, they go from a decent shot to, “so you’re telling me there’s a chance.” My gut on Rio is that there’s a 50/50 chance of him playing, but Hagerty needs to know sooner rather than later so he can game-plan. I like Charter Oak in a blowout and Chino Hills and Damien to give it a good shot before bowing out. The Southeast was extremely difficult to project. My upset special is Los Altos over Burroughs, and though I went against Bonita, I will not be surprised if they upset Arcadia. In the Mid-Valley, I’m going with Azusa and Arroyo, but predict the remainder of the Montview and MVL all lose. Pomona-Monrovia is the biggie, and I guarantee the Devils make this close and are capable of pulling the upset over the defending champs.

  • Roman84

    Fred,
You don’t need to explain the fall of Rome. You could have just placed Amat in the same line with Damien and Chino Hills.

Thank you for the CO prediction and the kind word you said, “Blow Out”. I know you’ve been accused of not supporting the Charter Oak family but really? “Blow Out”? Let’s not get crazy! But it would sure be nice…

    Go Charter Oak Football!!!!

Remember when Amat Bully said he’s not going to respond to anyone whose team is not in the playoffs? Haha! He’s going to have to hear from the Amat side this week. Hey Amat Bully, how does crow taste?

  • Amat Bully’s ID

    Hello everyone,

I’ve always been harping Amat on this blog but deep down inside I’m a closet fan. You know what they say, hate is a sign of envy and I really hate Amat. I don’t know what it is. I think it’s just a desperate attempt to get attention I didn’t receive as a child. I appreciate Fred for what he has done for me because without this blog I have no sense of self worth. I try to act tough which is atypical for all ages and shapes of bullies. I even was quoting Tupac when Fred started banning my posts and the rest of the community made me crawl under my desk. I have found my niche which is to bash a school I’ve never attended but wish I could have been a part of. But whatever. If people say the sky is blue, I will always say, “No, the sky is red!” Excuse me, it’s time for me to take some of my prozac.

Question to ARAM; I see alot of your picks are not the same as Fred’s? Are you basing your picks on what you know about these teams, or your just trying to come out ahead in your predictions contest with FRED?

COME ON ARAM, INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW?

  • Bonita fan

Dimand Ranch will lose to Bellflower is my prediction and upset of the week.

  • Your fuuny Fred

Fred so for your Bonita prediction are you predicting your prediction is wrong…lol

I know the predicting business is a tough one and your preaty good at it but sounds like your playing this one both ways

  • Colt74

    My playoff prayer:

The COACH is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to practice in green pastures: he leadeth me to drink the cold waters.

He restoreth my play clock: he leadeth me to the end zone for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the bracket of death, I will fear no evil: for Livingston, Venegas, and Ainsworth (both) art with me; thy linemen and thy Nick Beast they comfort me.

Thou preparest a field before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my helmet with stickers; my cup protects me.

Surely Del La Cruz and Mason shall follow me all the days that I block: and I will dwell in the house of the Coach for hopefully till after the Championship.
    :)

  • bigdog

    Fred,
My big prediction for this week will be Arcadia over Bonita.I know that’s not an upset but that’s my pick.Bonita has just been so unpredictable this year and you never know what team is going to show up?

  • Preacher man

COLT74? YOUR INVISIBLE FRIEND? WTH… WOULD THAT BE CASPER THE GHOUST? BY THE WAY WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT RELIGIOUS BELIEFS FOOL! I WAS JUST STATING A FACT ABOUT YOU, TAKING WORDS OUT OF CONTENTS! Preacher man,
I’m not your brother. Maybe you should have a heart to heart with your mother to find out who is..but it isn’t me.
I’ll pass you the ex-lax though. Cause you seem to be full of it.

  • Roman84

Let’s keep it clean gentlemen. Let’s stay away from religion and remain focused on these playoffs.

  • LOTM

    @Preacher man

If you’re going to correct people or call them out maybe you should spell check your post before you send it. Its Ghost, not ghoust…also it would be taken out of context not contents… your CAPS LOCK seems to be on…74, lets hear your thoughts on the Mid Valley first round games.

  • Colt74

    LOTM,
Going with MOST of Fred and Arams predictions. I’m taking Azusa though. Monrovia – Pomona is an absolute toss up to me. Would not be the least surprised to see ether team come out on top in a close game or a blow out.
Experience I give to the Wildcats. Explosiveness and passing I give to the Red Devils. If Sir Darius gets blocking….see ya! Pomona has surprised me and earned my respect. I’m pulling for them. I would of liked to see that game. Hope it’s on Coveritlive.

If it gets to San Dimas and Arroyo I’m taking San Dimas. I think they will get to Rivera. I’m pulling for them too.

VVL…as long as one of us is last man standing.

  • Your grammar school teacher

Just a friendly reminder of the differences among words.

Your = a form of the possessive case used as an adjective. Example: Your grammar school teacher tought you better. I’m going to your house today.

You’re = contraction of ‘you are.’
Example: You’re (you are) going to your house today. You’re (you are) upsetting your grammar school teacher.

Lose = to suffer the deprivation of. to suffer loss. Example: Your grammar school teacher will lose her job the way a lot of you people spell.

Loose = not bound together. free or released from attachment. Example: The football came loose after it was stripped and the team did not want to lose the game.

To = used for expressing motion or direction toward a point, person, place, or thing approached and reached, as opposed to from. Example: I’m going to the football game this Friday.

Too = in addition, also. Example: Your friend is going to the football game too.

  • Lance R

Hey Fred cannot always pick Amat especially here with the unknown still hanging out there concerning #9. ??. With or without #9 we still play the game and on any given night right? ocvarsity.com has some highlights of Santa Margarita and they are a good looking team, yes we are big underdogs to a team that could possibly win this whole tournament but our coaching staff will put in a game plan and lets hope it works. Santa Margarita has 2 losses on the season one to Mater Dei and one to Servite O.T. with SJB playing them very close. Amat will surprise you in big games with this coaching staff. I know this one seems like the impossible but the impossible has happened before for this staff. Rain in the forecast this Friday, so it does add a twist for both teams. Good Luck Lancers we got in so lets make the best of it. We are all 0-0 as of right now. Fred I guess we will all know by tonight or tomorrow if #9 is in based off today’s practice at Amat. ???

Bonita 42-21: Pacific league teams and Hacienda teams rarely play each other. When they do since 2008, usually in the playoffs,Hacienda or Marmonte league teams are 10-1 against the Pacific. The 1 win was in 2008 when Muir defeated DRanch in week 0 but lost to them in the playoffs that same year. The Pacific has zero wins against Hacienda teams since 2008 in the plyoffs which is when I stopped looking. Hacienda teams play a physical brand of football(yes even Bonita) that the Pacific teams do not see week to week. The second half is usually when the Hacienda teams romp. So if Arcadia pulls it off good for them but they will know that they were in a huge fight.

  • Ban the Bully

    Wooly Bully,
Amat might be gone next week but CO be gone the week after that. What’s gonna happen then? Have you made any plans as to what you’re going to do after that? Does the saying “get a life” have any meaning? How will you exist? Better start planning for that time now.

  • twisted logic

somehow bully will try to say because CO might get by Santiago that means if Santa Margarita beats Amat it says something by comparison.

  • Amat Bully

Well i know one thing you shouldn’t be on here after this week let me worry about what im going to do over the next 3-4 weeks as CO continue their stride to greatness. Its nice to know that you fans are wishing CO lose LOL keep wishing as a matter of fact go throw a penny in the wishing fountain in the mall maybe that will help you some. HEY GOOD LUCK THO LITTLE BUDDY i hope your team perform well.

  • AZTEC PRIDE

Well ARAM, you may think of getting some glasses! How about some BIFOCALS. LOL… AZUSA will not lose, not this time…

  • No grammarian myself, but…

La Futbol, loved it and felt the same way! Arrogant prick on a soap box thought he was “tought” better than everyone on his site! Truth is many of us fire off our takes from a smart phone and fat finger keys, don’t spell check or proof our prose before sending.

Love Colt 74′s take on the prayer and was amused and not offended in the least. Come on people, lighten up a little for cry eye.

    Anyone ready for some football?

  • smallcitymc

If I am correct, virtually every team Amat has gone up against this year has been bigger… and a lot bigger at that. Yet, for the most part Amat managed to hang with them.

Amat’s linemen are the key. If the O-line can make and maintain their blocking assignments and the D-line can come off the snaps with speed and shoot the gaps, Amat has a fighting chance.

  • Ban the Bully

    Wooly Bully,
I’m showing CO as much love as you show Amat. Or is that not fair in your book? Are we supposed to bow down before the mighty CO? Are they untouchable? Try being more supportive of the whole valley then you might get some back in return. Makes sense to me.

  • Good advice

Bully needs to take Hagerty’s advice

  • Aaron

Didn’t everyone pick against Muir last year? Said our boys couldn’t handle their D-line and DBs…what happened? Yeah, I’ll take my chances.

    Good News!!!!!

AMAT will win!!!! (with or without Rio)

This win will be AMATS biggest upset since St. Bonnies!!!!

    GO LANCERS!!!!

  • oldschool

maybe both Amat can pull an upset.Amat this friday and Charter Oak against Upland.Amat already gots one thing going for them, they had some great luck getting into the playoffs and that can do alot for your confidence. Charter Oaks offense has been able to jump on some quick leads, that could work out great for them.there offense is also running on all cylinders. dont really care about any of the other divisions, just the teams that are playing in top divisions.

  • Lance R

Football playoffs are just a one game elimination tournament and there will be upsets in all divisions this Friday and along the way to final championship games. Some teams that are underdogs do their homework of scouting and devise a gameplan that pulls the upsets. Year 2002 first game of the playoffs, Amat went to Redlands as a underdog, installed the wing T and came away with a 42-35 win. The year after that 2003 on the road again to a 9-1 Lakewood team and this was a game I was almost sure we were not going to survive seeing Lakewood was 9-1, it got out of hand as Amat had their way with the other Lancers 35-18. I see a strong and balanced Santa Margarita team but one just never knows, first round games are like 1st games of the season in the sense that your team gets wound up tight and sometimes plays not to lose football and we all know what happens when you play not to lose football as opposed to play to win football. You just never know how a team and their mental state reacts to that pressure of the one game elimination, especially if you are a favorite and have the home game. Amat Tesoro was that way last year. Amat played not to lose instead of to win and we all know what happened there. As for CO the same holds true with Corona Santiago coming in loose and everything to gain. From there with a CO win they go to Upland and like I said even tho it is a 1/4 final CO could win that game if they are comfortable and do not get caught up in the Upland is already the champion there is no we can beat them. It is mental and the unthinkable will happen for some teams that pull the upsets this week and the weeks leading up to the final game. Some underdogs may not make the final games but they could upset and become spoilers along the way. If Upland loses and CO wins the future gets brighter. If Amat wins and Poly Loses a game at Amat vs Newport Harbor? this is how fast a tournament can change gears. A lot of what if’s but there will be some not all favorites will win count on that.
