Last week: Aram got me by one again, taking the regular season on Friday’s Claremont win over South Hills. We both missed on South El Monte beating Rosemead, Wilson over Baldwin Park and Gladstone over Workman. Those MVL and Montview league games get us every time. I got Aram taking Los Altos over Diamond Bar, but he got me with Gabrielino over Mountain View. But now the fun time is here, the playoffs, and this race doesn’t end until Week 14 is over.
This week’s games: First, no reason to take Bishop Amat, still uncertain whether QB Rio Ruiz will play with that sore knee, and without him, they go from a decent shot to, “so you’re telling me there’s a chance.” My gut on Rio is that there’s a 50/50 chance of him playing, but Hagerty needs to know sooner rather than later so he can game-plan. I like Charter Oak in a blowout and Chino Hills and Damien to give it a good shot before bowing out. The Southeast was extremely difficult to project. My upset special is Los Altos over Burroughs, and though I went against Bonita, I will not be surprised if they upset Arcadia. In the Mid-Valley, I’m going with Azusa and Arroyo, but predict the remainder of the Montview and MVL all lose. Pomona-Monrovia is the biggie, and I guarantee the Devils make this close and are capable of pulling the upset over the defending champs.
