Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.

Last week: Robledo (3-6); Tolegian (6-3)
Season standings: Robledo (191-55); Tolegian (193-53)

Last week: A week after going 15-0, I choked in the quarterfinals, no other way to explain it. I knew I was going out on a limb taking Charter Oak and Arroyo, but I lost all the 50-50 games too. Aram wasn’t the greatest either, but on a week like this, going 6-3 was huge. Give him credit for taking Muir, and all the other favorites, it paid off. I’m two down with two weeks left, let’s see what happens.

This week: The only guarantee is West Covina at La Mirada, though on the road in Whittier strange things happen. The Bulldogs are playing well, but it may take more work to get rid of La Mirada than it did their previous two opponents, but the Bulldogs should advance. Muir looked phenomenal in the first two rounds. I know DRanch had some players missing, etc, etc, but nobody smoked them like that, and that came a week after whipping No. 2 Santa Fe. When Muir is committed and focused, this is what you get, a dangerous team capable of beating anyone. Monrovia-Covina is a super fight in the Mid-Valley. No respect to the bottom half, but this is for the championship. I thought about going with Monrovia after the way the Wildcats dispatched Whittier Christian, but I think this will be Covina’s finest hour, a week before the real finest hour occurs. I’m taking CTown to go to the final. San Dimas is an unbelievable situation. When they beat Azusa, San Gabriel and Monrovia back-to-back-to-back in October, who would have thought they may have to do it again to win a championship. After already beating Azusa in the rematch, now it’s San Gabriel’s shot at the rematch after losing 59-6 the first time. The Matadors will make it closer, but they won’t make up all the difference after a 53-point blowout. And if Monrovia wins, San Dimas would have to pull the trifecta again. Now that would be amazing, especially since the Saints technically didn’t have any “home” games this year. Of course if Covina wins, then it’s San Dimas’ shot at the rematch.

Fred, so after having the two most impressive wins in the Midvalley “playoffs”,( not preseason, Not League) against the toughest teams, you still think Covina is going to beat the Cats?..Wow Both Aram and yourself still have not explained why… You just say, “Finest Hour” or Aram’s “No One is going beat Covina”. Well you have the right to put it any way you want…however, Real Football heads and Bloggers want the “Nasty Cheese”.You must be saving this for Tuesday’s show…I like how you get “Big Bob” from Mtown up, so you can smooth things over, Crack jokes, and pretend like that represents Mtown Football. You have not even had any Mtown Players on the show…not even this week…I am calling you out on that. By doing this, no real football get’s discussed…We love big bob, appreciate his support, But it’s playoff time. he’s not breaking things down from an Official Mtown Point of view. If Duarte was in the Semi’s and Monrovia wasn’t, you still have “Big Bob” on the show”Busted” You know that. Is that some kind of inside Joke? Mtown has numerous coaches alumni who are highly thought of…Why have you not done your research, and contacted any of those people? Scouting Guru Vs Big Bob…Give me break. I am glad this game is on the Road, I am Glad You Fred, Aram, And Miguel are picking against the Cats…The UnderCats are going to turn it up like they’ve done in the past around this time of the year. This is a big game for both teams, but the Cats have been here before and lots of experience preparing and playing in this type of the Atmosphere…We done it for the last Five years…so Mtown will be greased up Friday for the Heavyweight Fight…I say Mtown has more than a punchers chance…But we will play the Role of Buster Douglas on Friday at CDF…

I’m picking Charter Oak to go all the way. They are the dominant team in the Inland without a doubt and have championships under their belt. This week is just another bump in the road. They have the best QB and RB in CIF and their recievers could start at USC. They should keep on rolli…..what?….MOM…what did you say?….WHAT???…they LOST?…Lost?…Nooooooooo!!!…Well they won the toughest league….wait…they were the 14th best league? Dangit!…but it was better than the Serra….no wait, they were 2nd…but…but…it was only their 2nd year and they are in the BEST division….WHAT MOM?…WHAT…Wait…CalPreps has the Pac 5 ranked higher?…Dangit!…but?..but…they’re still better than Amat….I think…HEY MOM,…What was that score?….51-13….See….we had FIFTY ONE with our unstoppable offense….Wait…that was UPLAND???…only 13?…WHAT?…the last one was against their 3rd string???…it was 51-6???…but Amat lost big and..MOM – quit interrupting!….WHAT???…really?….it was 24-21 in the 4th quarter vs Santa Margarita???…and Coach said he was “embarrased”?…yeah …me too….again…I’m moving back to Colorado!

  • Bet with your brain not heart…

Fred Chose Charter Oak Over Upland…lol…he should not be allow to pick this week…Let the Janitor go heads with Aram this week….lol.

  • Unlucky Charm

Hey, I want to take Fred to Vegas….I’ll ask him to pick, then I’ll take the exact opposite…I am going to be rich lol

  • Pick your nose

Hey Didn’t The Tribune Pick Arroyo to Go to finals? Lol…they always pick the wrong team

  • Philly B

Im with Paul on this one. Lets compare the two teams road to getting to the point. Monrovia played a good team in pomona and took care of them. and whittier christian and took care of them. Both games monrovia was not heavy favorite even though they are the defending champs. Covina Played South El Monte…..Alhambra…No disrepsect to the moors, but covina was the heavy favorite while there were doubts in the wildcats. But its all good. Fred, Aram, Miguel, Paul did call you out on a lot of things as far as Big Bob, and having mtown players on the show. Go Muir, Go Cats

I just want to say that the season will be over in a few weeks and I want to be the first to say it has been fun. Down to the final four in each division; everyone take off your bias hat and congratulate the final four, these young men should all be commended for their teams achievement.

At any rate enough of the niceness back to the ripping of those of you whom have absolutely no clue about football. Most of you just wear the HOMER Hat. Please see the links I have listed below, I have went back and read some of the nonsense we have written about over the past 8 months. FUNNY STUFF, I know these blogs are great and funny and in some cases funnier than In Livin Color and the Chappell show..I will give credit where credit is due. ARAM you have gotten it correct about 90% of the time.

I wonder what the following bloggers will say now based on where there team is now. How will you defend what you have previously written LOL.

MHS vs.COVINA. You know I have MHS and I mean BIG over Covina. What will these bloggers have to say?

  • Good stuff

WHOLLY BULLY. DUDE THAT IS FUNNY! Made me laugh this morning…

  • GOOD STUFF

Paul Revere, I believe your mistaken and Miguel Melendez, has picked Monrovia to WIN. Also he’s going with San Gabriel over SD.

  • true grit

they are going to key on vinny this friday so ainsworth better show up or the season is over for covina. vinny is a good ball player but knowing monrovia they will key on him like no other. the question is who is going to step up for covina. its time to gut it out ainsworth even if your hurt because vinny wont be able to do it by himself this week. i think covina still has a chance but only if ainsworth is willing to give it his all and if he dont then bye bye covina.

  • M-TOWN

Ainsworth is a soft running back. No way he gives it his all this week vs Monrovia. He is gonna get hit hard once, and start limping asking to come out. He shouldve been in the game vs Alhambra and didnt want to play. Sorry Covina but you guys are done.

  • SD Defense?

SD Coaches, should bring back the defense that you guys had at the beginning of the year, it was tough, and less points scored on us…. nows not the time to try new things…. just sayin!!

  • paul revere

Miguel’s pick came out after My post…In the orignal brackets article… He chose covina…Well Miguel I am glad you chose to roll with the westside.

  • CoViNa

Fred, after your picks last week, please pick Monrovia.

  • your it!

Not a chance Covina. Fred Picked you. He is always attempting to wish teams to a victory. Well you will have to go through this week being “Freds Pick”.

  • coltfan97

    MTOWN,

Ainsworth is not soft by a long shot!!!!!! He would rather hit you and deliver punishment!!!!! Also he gained 1400 yards this year and your telling me he is soft!!!!! Your joking right???? Covina took him out against Alhambra because the game was already over so why use him????? I have no problem with Fred picking Covina everytime he has picked Covina, Covina has won!!!!!!! Thank You Fred!!!!! By the way Monrovia talent doesn’t mean your going to win the game!!!!! Covina has heart, determination, grit, and talent!!!! Expect a fight Friday Night!!!!

  • La Mirada Guy

    @Fred,
“though on the road in Whittier strange things happen” Fred we are in La Mirada not Whittier….
Sorry to ruin your dream match up. And to ruin your pick-em this week again. But a guarantee?
    Any wagers on that?

  • Fred Robledo

La Mirada, when I say that I mean Whittier area, err, our sister paper, the Daily News area…stop being so sensitive.

  • Fred Robledo

I picked Monrovia to lose the championship in 2009, THEY LOST. I picked Monrovia to beat San Dimas in the rematch in 2010, THEY WON. I picked Monrovia to win the championship last year, THEY WON.

  • Colt74

Monrovia likes to play the games on the blogs instead of on the field. I decided to go thru the archives of their games with Arcadia, South Hills, and San Dimas. They did the same before those games also. Those other teams were going to have no answer for everything that Monrovia had.

Well, we all know how those teams answered…don’t we?

And yes, I know, any game that Monrovia loses does not count.

If talking up games before they are played counted the Wilcats would be this years Super Bowl Champions, instead of in reality the 4th best team in the Mid Valley Division.
( as per CIF rankings ). On the bright side though, since Arroyo lost it moves them up IMHO to 3rd now. San Gabriel, Im sure, would disagree.

  • paul revere

You still have not answer why all the other schools, like CO Get Jason David, or their coach, but when it comes to Monrovia Muir, you are using “Big Bob” Like he is a beat reporter…Why not Interview Maddox, or G5 and Ellis this week… Steven Rivera has been on twice, Yet Ellis and Seymor are all Americans and their teams are in the Semis after running through the playoffs…My question is what is your motives ….have you ever called Ricroft? Have you ever call Darrick Holmes from Muir who’s son is a freshman starting….No you rather write about “Noodles”…you would rather have Santiago and Rivera Back on the show again or call Farrar friday night again… This blog can sometimes be one sided…all Eastside…so let me see San Dimas, has been on, Covina has been on…West Covina, etc…then you had San Gabriel vs Alhambra instead of Seymour, Glassm Cox, and Simpson during tussle week…What can you say…How about some answers…Actually we are holding Miguel responsible for not pressing the issue about getting some west side guys on.

  • Paul revere on history

    September 25, 1959

That was the last time Monrovia and Covina met on the football field. The Wildcats beat the Colts 32-6, at Covina District Field, thanks to fullback Tom Hardings three touchdowns, including a 54-yard scoring run. Jerry Baron added C-Towns only points with a 30-yard touchdown catch.

  • Fred Robledo

I should have made Aram pick first

  • Colt74

    Fred,
It almost forces you to change some of your picks. All he has to do to win out is stick with your picks. You have noting to lose by switching picks.

  • Fred Robledo

My new final four is La Serna, La Mirada, Monrovia and San Gabriel….JK

  • NOSTRADAMUS

The team of the puddy tat
Will ride in on their chariots of yellow
    in the days before
    their town crier will bellow
    Proclaiming unstoppable
and how hard they will hit
    The opposing team will laugh
At all said from puddys village idiot
His words untrue and his vision unclear
All laugh and shake and their heads at the ignorant Paul Revere
The team of the horse in the end
    they will shout
They of the two will still be standing
when the lights are turned out
while the puddys drive home sad those 17 miles
Colts will rejoice with their cokes and their smiles

  • Colt74

Why do I have a mental picture of Paul Revere, in his bedroom, the lights out except for his lava lamp. his stereo blaring to Michael Jackson while he dances with his silver glove on?

And his mom banging on the door asking what is going on in there?

See..there again…you can’t come up with anything original on your own…..

  • MonroVian

    Hahahahahhahahaha…..
All the wittle colts are mad, colt74,97,69…. How many of you lames are there? Anyway what you said about Revere being in his room, at his moms house was funny, but the funnier thing is that is exactly how I picture all the Colts here being like, especially 74!
Revere Keep poking at the 2 my little ponys, Its Fun to read those loosers wright and wright and wright and comment and comment all day long.

Well you can call me bias but I just dont see what some of the Covina folks see. I invision the game as a really close game. However my gutt tells me the winner wins in a BLOWOUT. I just feel that the level of competition that the Covina team has played just doesnt match up. West Covina in week ZERO nice game but not the same team they are today. San Dimas is a quality win but all the others eckkkkkk putrid at best (GLADSTONE, BALDWIN PARK, WILSON, NORTHVIEW,WALNUT,come on man My Pasadena Trojans Jr Midget Team would give the formentioned teams a game)

Unlike MHS Covina wasnt getting everyones A GAME.
Monrovia as the defending champion was getting everyones A GAME. Beat MHS “we beat the defending champion with big ol bad Ellis McCarthy”….. That Monrovia Schedhule was a bit a tougher in fact a lot tougher. Glendora, played WC tough 20-19 in defeat, San Dimas playoff team, currently 10-2 was the only ugly game for MHS, Arcadia playoff team 30-22 had six turnovers leading 22-20 with 2:32 and had the game won 4th and 16 and give up a touchdown, Beat Paramount playoff team, 40-36 tough team, Beat Pomona 24-7 playoff team, Beat San Marino 50-0,playoff team, Beat Whittier Christian, Olympic league Champ and Covina killa last year 61-7 with 5:07 left in the 3rd quarter if it was a fight Don King would have begged to stop it.

Someone please tell me why Covina beats MHS Ill listen and could be convinced but please dont talk to me about San Dimas. Even the Superbowl champs sometimes have 2-3 loses. But good God from everywhere when the playoffs start its a entirely diffirent level of play.
