Former Workman guard Cezar Guerrero drops 29 and sets freshman record to lead Oklahoma State

Remember how many of you said Cezar Guerrero was too small and too selfish to play big-time college basketball. I won't say I told you so, but here's your answer: Cezar Guerrero hit eight 3-pointers and tied the Oklahoma State freshman scoring record with 29 points, rescuing the Cowboys from a late 11-point deficit to beat Texas-San Antonio 90-85 in overtime Wednesday night in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

I saw Guerrero play several times last year at St. John Bosco, and when I witnessed him torching Mater Dei, I sensed he could be special.

I also saw James Harden play at Artesia several years ago, and knew that he had NBA potential too. It's a pleasure to see tomorrow's stars today, minus the entourage and other star trappings. Viva high school sports!

Did he play for Cooper as well?

Another point on Cezar and other kids who have the conviction to follow their dreams and not settle.

A few years ago I was talking to a parent at Damien and he was telling me about his frustration that his son wasn't taking an offer to a local college. As he said, "I don't know what more he wants" The ked held out and now plays for USC.

Two years ago an couple of APU coaches were discussing their frustration with Chris Reyes who had "unrealistic expectations" and should just take their offer to play for them. He jsut signed with D1 St. Mary's.

How long ago was it that bloggers joked that Cezar was an idiot for backing out of commitment and was left unsigned late into his senior season. Now he plays for a big time program in Oklahoma State and making ESPN highlights.

Props to these kids who bust their butts, turn off the doubters and take ownership of their lives. I know there are countless others but we just don't hear about them enough as every one is an dogging them along teh way.

Watching him put up 40+ on Mater Dei & Orange Lu at St. John Bosco, it was easy to see this guy was going to excel at the next level.

I'm not surprised at all, she played on our co-ed team at Big League dreams in her off-season, she was better than most guys in the league.

Nadia Link, former Walnut soccer player now at Long Beach Staate made a game winning goal to beat Pepperdine last week. Her team will advance and play Miami on Friday at UCLA. If win they play the winner of the UCLA game.
