Rio Ruiz's MRI is negative, but he will not play Friday at Notre Dame
Bishop Amat quarterback Rio Ruiz got his MRI results back Thursday and there was good news. It came back negative, leaving Ruiz with just a sprain, not any damage to his ACL or MCL. However, he is still sore, hasn't practiced this week and will sit out Friday's game at Notre Dame in the hope Amat wins and makes the playoffs. Sophomore Koa Haynes will get the start at QB for the Lancers Friday. If Amat wins and gets in, Ruiz will have two weeks off before the playoffs since the Lancers have a bye in week 10. From everything I hear, if healthy, Ruiz will return for the postseason run.

@new school.i never said he was a loser.I said he should finish out the year if he can.he is not the only baseball player to ever play football.Jr philips played QB and took risk before signing to the major leagues.Like I said injuries can also happen in baseball.
Congratulations to Rio and his dad regardless the decision. Rio will never look back with any regrets, or ask the what ifs... Too many paranoid people live their life around what could happen. We are all mortal! I want thank the Ruiz family and wish them the very best. What a great kid, respectful and hard working. Good luck and thanks for doing it right.

AMEN!
"If he can play he should play, he needs to show he is not a quitter"
1. He should play...says who? You?
2. He needs to show he is not a quitter...to who? You?
3. There will be times in his career that he is hurt and will need to work hard and make a come back.... So high school is a career? It may have been for you and from your post I would guess it was probably the best 7 years of your life.
Who the F are you to decide what and to whom this kid needs to prove himself to?
I'm with he majority. It was a nice run and thank you for the sacrifices you made for the school. Good luck in baseball and in life.

Old School:
You obviously have never been a top prospect or have ever been in close contact with someone who has or is... This stud is going to make millions in less then a year and for your grown a$$ to even consider him a quitter is a low life of a loser comment. First of all who calls a teenager a loser to begin with... A loser with nothing better to do I guess... So I suggest chillin out and keep your bias opinion to yourself because in less then a year he"ll be able to hire you to wipe his butt... Just keepin it real.
If he is worrying about his baseball career in the major leagues, maybe he should not play baseball his senior year and not leave his home.there are risk leaving your home and playing baseball also. he cant live his life worrying about injuries.it can happen anytime ,anywhere. If he can play he should play, he needs to show he is not a quitter. there will be times in his career that he is hurt and will need to work hard and make a come back.
Very true that it is his family's decision to make concerning his playing football with the risk factor involved. I am almost sure dad was not happy when Rio went down against Loyola, first and foremost from his sons safety first but you cannot say the idea of the baseball career being over did not enter his mind. Lets face it Lancer fans we may not even get in the playoffs and should we, I think some in here want Rio back out there for the sake of seeing him play again and also a Amat victory, not taking into consideration what this young man is putting at stake, his future. It is up to this team to dig deep and get the win at Notre Dame (or a coin flip) to get Amat to the playoff round. The Rio playing question is a "what if" right now. Lets win our way into the playoffs and then you can talk Rio to comeback or not to comeback. It is not all about our football team with Rio but people also forget we have a Baseball team that needs him too, after all he has won a championship for the school in baseball not football. I would have to venture to say at this point Baseball comes first for Rio and the Amat faithful.
I bet that Rio will be back to play football in the playoffs. He is a very honorable kid and although we all feel that maybe it isnt in his best interest to play, that will be a decision him and his family will be making. But knowing what I know about the type of kid he is and the type of parents he has, he will be back because he made a commitment to play back in spring when football training began. Whether thats a good decision or not, its most likely the decision that will be made.
I am totally against Rio playing anymore football. He gave us what he could and his baseball career is on the line anytime he takes to the football field. The scare came against Loyola and should be a wake up call to his family that accolades at the H.S. level are just that accolades and that does not put digits into you bank account. Its a no brainer. H.S. Football accolades vs MLB signing bonus or for that matter a full ride at USC. Do the math. As some say he will play should we get into a playoffs, I say what for? You get a top seed to go against and your o-line is the weakest part of your team, it makes no sense to risk another injury that this time could be the career end all. If I am his dad I'd say he is done. He is not a quitter just a person that must look out for number 1 himself and his family. The Ruiz family I am sure has put so much into Rio from the day he picked up a baseball and supported all of his travel ball days which cost money not to mention top of line baseball equipment. It is time to get some of that investment back. I'd hate to see him risk it and take to the football field again but should he decide to give it one last go in a playoff game you have to hand it to the young man he has the heart of a champion.
Whether or not we have a shot at the title it is not in Rio's blood to exit as he did . The young man has the haert of a champion and if we make the playoffs he will play. Not sure of the young man's name but I am sure the JV QB is already on varsity and he is capable of running the offense as he has performed quit well for the JV's .
Rio has had a GREAT run ...
With ALL respect ...Amat has NO chance @ A Championship.
Let him REST & prepare for Baseball .
FIGHT ON
TM
So happy to hear! He has a bright future ahead! Glad all that wasn't ruined!
That's great news, if he comes back for playoffs he will definitely take his team past the first round!
I can't wait to hear what kind of offer he will get from the MLB teams comes baseball time.
Who takes the Helm for Amat if K.H. gets dinged?
Good news...hate to see a senior's year come to an end because of an injury.
