Sunday Tribbin -- Week 10 is here with four league title games on Thursday ... Where should we send Mike the Cousin
Where to send Mike the Cousin? What's our game of the week? Tough questions on Thursday with four league championships, and three of them with undefeated league teams playing for the title. El Monte and Arroyo for the Mission Valley, La Puente and Azusa for the Montview and Chino Hills and Charter Oak for the Sierra where all teams are undefeated in league. West Covina has clinched a tie in the Hacienda, but Diamond Ranch can share it with a win and grab the No. 1 seed in league and knock the Bulldogs from the top ranking in the Southeast. Lots and lots on the line.

MORON, and wil stay with that name!
Dude
Read your past posts over the years MORON! You never mentioned "Steven Acreo" ? LMAO. Proud Daddy or bragging daddy? Get a grip I have been to Citrus games and listened to your mouth. It's comical watching your cheering when your son does good and really quite when he's not in on the tackles or MISSES them. I guess it doesn't go both ways with you!
Typical Daddy Boy! Get off this prep blog and concentrate on not living through your kid. Or strap on the pads and try it again, if you EVER played.
GO DADDY, OOOOOOH now you want to get a little personal huh? You continue to keep tightening the screws. Okay I was on the defense, now let me you ask you something and i'm going to be clean about it and use no choice words here, if you know what I mean. By the way have you been to a Citrus, or AZUSA game? You mentioned about missed tackles, so maybe you have??? But i'll wait for your comment. One more thing, have you ever seen or met me at a game ever? Don't be afraid and answer the question honestly.
Also yes I do bring up AZUSA alot, but hell who else does on here, and if I don't who does! One more thing, go back and clip were I posted something on this Football Blog about my son, other then THIS ONE POSTING! Okay I know you'll be back, because you know the phrase,"CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT"! I'll be resting for your reply.
AZTEC PRIDE!
This is a prep blo not a former prep blog not a JC blog.
Beat it unless you want to talk preps
Arceo
No doubt you'll leave it alone, because you were called out about bragging about your kid. Who cares if you talked about two three four or an article. Go back and read all your posts. Always talkin about Azusa and referencing your kid on the side. Get over it!
Ridiculous!
Go daddy,
Now that I see were your IQ's at and can see i'm dealing with a kid, i'm just going to leave it alone!
Hey Saints ant Real
Hey Punk? Blast your name here ahole.. Talks cheap and the Saints suck too! Covina kicked your butt up and down the field this year.
Azusa and Saints daddy boys. What a joke.
DaddyBoys..... Hey PUNK!
Why don't you blast your own name on here if your gonna expose somebody against their will!
Citrus football represents all of SGV , GO OWLS!!
COLT74, Thanks for that!
I'll admit it, yes my post was a little over the top and it's pretty much taboo to say anything about your son or relative so to speak on here. My son no longer plays high school ball, so if daddy thinks I wanted any handouts, well he's mistaken. Like I said before Steve, wrote up a article about the two players before the season started and i just wanted to bring it up to his attention, that had something to do with his article. Yeah it probably doesn't matter to anybody but myself, but here's the reason Colt why I do, if it makes any sense.
I'll mentioned it again and i've been on here for what numerous seasons, since Scherf took over the program and all I ever heard on the BLOG, that AZUSA wasn't NOTHING. For years I heard that on here, and yes the reason why i've placed several names on here from AZUSA, is yes I just wanted our fellow beloved bloggers to know that, AZUSA can hang with SGV teams with a good Coaching Staff!
On personal note, that was the last time my son will be playing at Citrus College, since he's a sophmore at Citrus, and was pretty down on that.Matter fact Colt, my son played on the team that won it's very first cif playoff game in TWENTY-FIVE YEARS against Covina. Well i've probably said to much already, and probably will get hammered for what i'm saying now.LOL...
COLT74, FRED & ARAM, have spoken! MAYBE THEY KNEW THE AZTEC DANCERS WERE GOING TO BE THEIR!HAHAHAHA..
AZUSA FOOTBALL!
The game between Charter Oak and Chino Hills will be an interesting one. Chino Hills is down this year and hopefully their tough pre-league schedule will pay off when they meet Charter Oak on Thursday night. Realistically I do not think that Charter Oak played any teams as tough as Chino Hills did in their pre-league schedule. Charter Oak from the outside looking in would seem to have more talent than Chino Hills does, however the win does not always go to the most talented team. The status of their injuried running back will have to be factored into the mix on picking the team that should win. If Charter Oak is as good as they appear to be they will most likely insert another running back into the backfield and not lose a beat. The key to Chino Hills winning will be ball control and limiting the time that Charter Oak is on offense as well as putting pressure on the QB. Chino Hills will be hard pressed to stay with Charter Oak in a shoot-out. Long drawn out drive resulting in 6's and not 3's will be the formula for a Chino Hills win. Best of luck to both teams and hopefully the game will be a close with Chino Hills prevailing.
AZTEC PRIDE,
Be as proud as you can! Your son has earned that right for you.
Good luck Thursday night!
@12th ma
There are regional games to be played this year for a right to advance to the state bowl games. The Northern winner or the Inland winner could very well end up playing the Pac-5 winner for the open division spot and/or div. 1 spot. Also, keep in mind that you still have to win your division in order to be selected for the regional game. Servite, Westlake, Centennial, all are not locks for their divisional titles.
Daddy boys said: (Tell me how you reall feel)!
I'll be honest and hell yes he has missed a lot of tackles this season. I'll say no more about it, but I’ll say this ALSO! That the DEFENSE has been outstanding and if you've been to ANY of the games, you would know what I’m talking about! Ok, I placed an article on here about Saturday’s game and BOTH KIDS FROM AZUSA, happened to be on the article and yes one of them is mine. It's just a little article on hear and what's the wrong with that? I'm not asking for any handouts. I've been on this BLOG for around four seasons, ever since Coach Scherf took over the program and all I’ve been trying to do is get AZUSA a little exposure and what not.
I do most of blogging here at work, , but come on this is what Football blogging is all about! What’s funny is, you put quit bragging about my son, well hell, I didn't write about those two players about Saturday's game and I just cut & pasted it! LOL...
Just to let you know, Steve Ramirez, wrote up an article about Citrus College and the two players from AZUSA in the beginning of the Season, and I just wanted to pass it on. Now what's the harm in that? I can see your point on the bragging part, but can't a (DADDY)!!! Be proud.LOL...
Question I have for you is; you posted AZUSA P, plus you placed my last name down and you must obliviously know my name? Matter of fact there's quiet a few people who know who I am and frankly it doesn't bother me, but maybe it's bothering you? How's that for being TRUTHFUL and quit hating! But you know that's what a FOOTBALL BLOG is all about!
Azusa P(MR. Arceo)
Give it a rest. Get off the bragging about your son, he's okay. You guys lost Saturday, talk about the missed tackles and be honest.
Fred,
Azusa spanks La Puente this year again no contest.
Game of the week should be CO vs. CH. Plus I will be in Sacramento this Thursday and I dont know if they will televise it up North. So I need my fix when I am sitting in front of my laptop in the damn hotel!
Fred; Can you please show this article about Citrus College football for me, to Steve Ramirez; had written a great story about Citrus Football in the begining of the season and had written about the AZUSA DUO being on defense! Tell Steve, that the AZUSA DUO didn't let him down this season and both players are the top tacklers for Citrus College!
Citrus writes up a article after every game and you'll see both STEVEN ARCEO AND JOSE NUNEZ both from AZUSA HIGH SCHOOL, and both coached by the Coach Scherf and BETTLE!
WHAT A GREAT SEASON CITRUS AND THERE'S ONE GAME LEFT IN THE SEASON AND LET'S GO OUT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!
====================================================
Six Turnovers Hand Owls First Conference Loss
Saturday, November 05, 2011 Glendora, CA (Football) -- The Citrus College Football team turned the ball over six times on Saturday afternoon, including a crucial interception deep in Moorpark territory late in the fourth quarter. The turnovers were too much for Citrus to overcome as they fell 27-21 for their first conference loss of the 2011 season.
Citrus would get on the board first late in the first quarter after a one yard plunge by freshman Jesus Vargas capped a nine play 59 yard drive. Things changed though in the second quarter as Moorpark went on to score 27 unanswered points. The Raiders scored on four of their first five possessions of the quarter on drives of 86, 23, 77, and 38 yards.
The Owls would finally stop the bleeding late in the second quarter when freshman Michael Ball, in at quarterback to give Citrus an option look, took the ball 48 yards to the house. The score would put Citrus down 27-14 headed into the break.
After giving up 27 second quarter points the Citrus defense rallied in the second half, holding the Raiders scoreless over the third and fourth quarters. The Owls D stopped Moorpark on their own 26 yard line on their best drive of the third quarter, and harassed Moorpark quarterback Nick Owens with four sacks in the second half. The Owls would also force the Raiders into two missed field goals, one blocked by sophomore Danzale White and the other pushed wide left.
With the defense giving the offense a number of opportunities, the Citrus offense finally took advantage pulling to within a single score when freshman Rocky Moore connected with sophomore Scott Dooley from nine yards out to make it 27-21.
The Owls next best chance would come midway through the fourth quarter. Citrus was driving into Moorpark territory when sophomore running back Ricky Johnson was stripped from behind at the Raider 30 yard line. Moorpark recovered ending the Citrus drive.
After the defense forced Moorpark to punt on their next possession, Citrus would get the ball back with 1:41 left in the game on their own 20 yard line, and with a chance to win the contest. Moore would move the Owls all the way down to the Moorpark 41 yard line. On second and 10, Moore would be picked off at the Moorpark 24 yard line, ending the threat and the game.
In the loss, Moore was 19 of 36 for one touchdown against three picks. Moore spread around his passes to a trio of sophomores, as Kelvin Chatham, BJ Oyefeso, and Dooley all caught three passes each. Chatham hauled in the four catches for a team best 70 yards.
Freshman Jose Nunez was all over the place for the Citrus defense, with a season high 15 tackles and four tackles for a loss. The totals were also the best individual numbers by an Owl this season. Sophomore Steven Arceo finished with 9 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, a break-up, a sack, and a hurry.
With the loss, Citrus falls to 5-4 on the year and 3-1 in Central Division West Conference play. Despite the setback, the Owls aren’t out of contention for a conference title just yet. Citrus has a chance to force a three way tie for the conference crown next Saturday at Long Beach City College. The Vikings are currently in first place and undefeated in the West Conference. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
CITRUS FIGHTING OWLS!
Freddie,
i write this everytime this topic comes up and I think you should consider it. I LOVE cossover coverage, but I disagree with crossover "recognition".
Since the Daily Bulletin is an SGVN paper too, there should be the same deliniation between papers as there is bewteen the Trib, Star and Daily News. No one in any of those areas "crosses over" into anyone elses Top Ten OR All SGV.
It appears there isn't as much cooperation with the Bulletin as there is between the other papers. Maybe it's a geography thing. However, schools and players should be recognized in one or the other. They shouldn't be eligible to gain additional honors over others in the SGV simply based on where their schol happens to be located.
Pick one or the other.
Chino Hills, Ayala, Claremont, Ganesha, Pomona, Bonita, Diamond Ranch and San Dimas are Tribune and Bulletin schools, and most of the time, if a game is covered west of the 57, the Bulletin covers it, east of the 57 we cover for them. It's sort of the same deal with Star-News/Tribune crossover schools.
Does this mean Chino Hills technically is in the Inland Empire? Does the Daily Bulletin consider Chino Hills their own team?
I went to the Chino Hills vs. Damien game a few weeks ago and we were having this same debate in the stands.
From the article for every intent and purpose, the Daily Bulletin considers this game the I.E. vs. the S.G.V. similar to games like Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, etc. I noticed even Diamond Ranch gets coverage by them.
Interesting article talking about Chino Hills dominating the league the last several years and Charter Oak making the jump etc.
What gives because personally although C.O. may not be my favorite team in our Valley I am clearing rooting for them versus an Inland Empire powerhouse like Chino Hills if that is what the Daily Bulletin suggests.
Charter Oak is the obviously the underdog and Chino Hills is the favorite and expected to win?
ayalabulldogfan, running our mouth(lol). what happen to your big three when thay played chino hills(you hear that, thats the buzz saw still running that left them shreded).there's no way you're getting by damien.so another season with no playoffs for you guys(QQ).i'm sure when you lose to damien the excuses are going to keep flowing as usual.
12th man
I have always felt that the top prep division should include the best teams as is possible.
Maybe the next time aroundd they should consider this idea for division one football
1. Bring the foothill, the marmonte, and the big eight into the top division
2. Include some of the top city football programs and incorporate them into some of these leagues while at the same time look at taking out some of the programs that really should'nt be in the top divisions.
3. Take the schedule from 10 games to 9. This way you have an extra week for playoffs due to the expanded numbers in this new division.
4. Give bye's to the top performing schools during that first week of the playoffs, (ie, to the league winners) and that way you could have more schools in the hunt for the final playoff spots
5. The extra week lost at the end could be fun for those schools that didnt make the playoffs because they could litterally schedule a game durring that final week that could be very well be intriging to say the least. For example, we could see a game between Amat and Charter Oak played or something along that line, assuming they were in the same division and didnt make the playoffs.
Anyway, just a thought here because the way this thing is set up now, it's just totally unfair to some of these schools
Chino Hills over CO
Azusa over La puente
Pomona over San Dimas
West Covina over D Ranch
El Monte over Arroyo
Damien over Ayala
Lost Altos over D bar
Wilson over BP
Northview over Covina
Bonita over Rowland
Pasadena over Muir
Monrovia over South Pas
Arcadia over CV
CO and CHHS game shoudl be covered. CHHS fans have been running their mouths all year long so I want to see them run head first into the buzz-saw called Charter Oak.
I'll say this though, if, and I do mean IF CHHS is able to get to CO's QB... could be very interesting. CO's QB has not been tested by anyone yet. He's back there 4-6 seconds on so many plays. Let's see what he does under duress. That's the true mark of a greta QB (which some have called him). If he looks good under duress, then we can say he's all that and a bag of chips. Until then, he's "just" very good in my humble opinion and should do well at the next level.
Real Nice LP, you're all CLASS!
Get'em ready Coach Scherf! Good luck to you and your coaching staff!
AZUSA AZTECS...
To LP,
I do expect a close game with LP and Azusa, but LP should pull out the win!!! My question to you, is how far do you think LP will go in the playoffs?
I gotta say there is no way Azusa wins their 4th league title this Thursday. LP is way to much for them this year. Only reason Azusa has been successful lately is because the Montview has been really bad. But when they get to the playoffs, their done. This is pretty much a playoff game. Their is finally a team of some caliber in their league and it will show this Thursday. 20 something win streak goes down the drain. Calpreps says 38-31 LP, but theirs no way LP gives up 31 to these guys. Azusa goes in as a #2 and loses to SD in the first round, again!
33.33% sure beats the hell out of 0.00%
And this just in from the crystal ball:
La Puente over Azusa
West Covina over Dbar
C.Hills in a squeaker over C.Oak.
Still trying to get a read on the an Dimas-Pomona game but when I ask the crystal ball all I get is " the number you have dialed is not in service. Please check the number and try again."
Must be the storm.....
74,
let's hope so. that makes it a 1 in 3 shot we see another day
Wilson gets their first win this week.
Crespi and Notre Dame BOTH lose.
Take it to the bank.
There was some discussion of making the Moore League a 3 guarantee league and still having an At-Large.
Now that the precedent has been set in other divisions, that could be something they reconsider next time around
12th Man,
I think if those teams run the table it will go down as you suggested.
Joe Amat,
I was only saying if "I" had to choose..That would be my pick...Im aware that the at large birth was removed a couple of years ago..I think Amat recieved the last at large birth when they faced #1 ranked Long Beach Poly although I could be mistaken~...Anyways what are your thoughts on which Divisions should get the Open State Championship & the Div.1???
PAC-5 Division
1.Moore-4
2.Serra-3
3.South Coast-3
4.Sunset-3
5.Trinity-3
16 Guaranteed
0 At-Large
12th man,
for a guy who acts as "knowledgable" about football and the Pac 5 is you do - it's a bit funny that you don't know there are NO "final spots" left. The Pac5 has no At-Large bids anymore.
but you're right...it's amazing that two teams out of Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran, or St John Bosco are going to be left out. just like two out of Crespi, Amat, and Notre Dame will be home watching.
As I said earlier in the year...the Pac5 is crazy! Unlike anything most in the Fish Bowl could ever imagine.
I feel bad for the Inland div..Who probably wont get a chance to win a State Championship!! If Servite runs the table in the Pac5 they get the open bid..If Westlake runs the table in the Northern Div. They play for the Div.1 State title~..Where does that leave the Inland who has two teams that are undefeated rite now.. REV. who is 9-0 & Upland who is 9-0 & then you have Corona Centennial who is 8-1 which probably doesnt go anywhere even if they win the Inland div. because of their first game loss to St. Bonaventure..
After watching Mater Dei play Servite...I would put them in the final spot as the 16 seed in Pac5!!
LA TIMES ARTICLE~
In the Serra League, Mission Hills Alemany (7-2, 3-0) and Los Angeles Loyola (7-2, 2-1) are in. Loyola plays Encino Crespi (7-2, 1-2) and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (6-3, 1-2) plays Alemany. La Puente Bishop Amat (6-4, 1-3) has a bye.
If Loyola and Alemany each win, there will be a three-way tie for the final playoff spot among Notre Dame, Crespi and Bishop Amat, resulting in a coin flip. If Crespi wins, it qualifies, along with Loyola, because each has beaten Notre Dame. So Notre Dame needs Loyola to beat Crespi no matter what.
Football Fan,
Selection of At-Large berths is really not as subjective as who has what some might think are "good wins" and whether it was "convincing" or not. It is actually a very objective process that you could go out and figure to eliminate the guess-work.
Here is the criteria in its selection process, with each category below having the specific weight listed:
(a) Head-to-head competition of teams under consideration (4 points)
(b) Overall strength of the league from which the team is entered (1 point)
(c) Overall win-loss record (1 point)
(d) Strength against common opponents (1 point)
(e) Strength of schedule (2 points, using overall win-loss record of opponents)
(f) Free lance teams will be part of the pool for the filling of at-large berths
Go to town and report back with the scenarios. It looks crazy!
Ayala will be the sleeper in the league , they have the best offense weapons with Wallace , Robinson , and Mayette. Look for them to upset Damien and make the playoffs, but good luck to them being a #3 seed. They don't stand a chance against a upland or centennial. Just show them more love they deserve it
The top two games I thinks are
CO vs CH must cover this one.
Azusa vs La Puente a must cover.
Both games are huge and should be very exciting.
The Hacienda could get 5 play-off births. The Southeast is not like the Mid-Valley, there is only one At-Large birth. The Hacienda get 4 automatic bids, the Suburban get 4, the Pacific get 4 and the Del Rio get 3.
If Los Altos loses to Diamond Bar, they can still claim the At-Large, with a 6-4 record.
More than likely, the next two best records in the Division, will be Crescenta Valley and El Rancho, also with 6-4 records. The difference, is El Rancho does not have any "noteable" victories, and they lost to LA. CV's biggest win is Muir. LA beat Diamond Ranch and Bellflower, both convincingly, and Bellflower is in a 3-way tie for Suburban League Champs with Mayfair and La Mirada.
So, if CIF does there homework, LA will get the At-Large. Or, they can beat Diamond Bar and receive the 4th place play-off birth automatically.
Are you sure VVL scout?
Covina VS northview is on THURSDAY now.
GO COLTS!
I have to agree with the Azusa-La Puente game. This could be HISTORY IN THE MAKING for the SGV.
I believe that La Puente has earned the right and deserves the attention.
Coach Scherf's first league loss?
Warriors first undefeated season?
League title on the line for BOTH.
The Aztec dancers?
GO Warriors! Proud of our boys. Sure it will be a great game!
Send him to the azusa vs la puente. lphs making history at there school. Give montview league some light on here. It should be a great game so go out and support.
amat nation
Just because we dont go out and try to run up scores and keep our starters in the whole game doesnt really say anything. You have yet to see what we are capable of running on full throttle. We could of easily shut out south hills and they easily scored 30+ on Charter Oak....This is our division and this is our league so dont think for a second we are going to lay down.
Way to do us all proud CO, they all said you couldn't compete in the sierra league. Now finish what you started boys...Great job Lou, Dom and Roger...
So far have read two comments saying baldwin park-wilson and bonita-rowland moved to Thursday, I will check on Monday to make sure. If any of those other Friday games are Thursday, let me know.
Just an FYI, Bonita will play on Thursday night not Friday, according to what my son told me after films yesterday.
Would put Amat in front of Damien. Damien sucks! Amat would beat them today without Rio hands down....
Top 10 in Week 10:
#1. Charter Oak
2 West Covina
3 Chino Hills
4 Damien
5 Covina
6 La Puente (9 - 0)
7 Bishop Amat - Can't put them any higher with 4 losses!
8 Bonita
9 San Dimas
10 Azusa
Go Amat!
I hate to say this but Charte Oak v Chino Hills looks like a great game for SGV!
Charter Oak has so many great weapons! The Huskies can't stop the Chargers.
CO 48. - CH 28
Go Amat!
FYI, all these games will be covered and updated on coveritlive ...we were asking where to send mike to as the home base ..and which game should get the cover shot...we only get one.
Have to see these two QB from El Monte are as good as Arm hype them.
I'm going back to see my High School kick butt on Arroyo Thursday night. Hate the the fact that it's at Arroyo. To many unpleasant memories of that place. The last time I was there was 1979. I think that was the last year they won a league Championship. I graduated in '72 Was not a glorious year for football, but nearly everything else as I recall.
I agree Colt97, the San Dimas vs Pomona game will speak volumes about the VVL in general. Mike should get a limo sponsored by Big Fred himself. Fred, how could you have missed this game?....
All these great games should be covered because they all have playoff implications in the CIF division they are playing in!!!!! If I had to choose one I would pick CO VS, CH so I agree with eastsider on this one!!!! There is a big game that doesn't involve a league championship but it has big playoff implications in Mid Valley Division that game is S.D. vs. Pomona!!! It is a big game that also should be covered in my opinion!!!!!
B Park is at Wilson on Thursday night
charter oak vs chino hills should be covered...no doubt
