Duarte High School released the following in regards to coach Tip Sanders not returning after his best season with the Falcons, going 6-3. Defensive coordinator Jason Martin will take over.
Presser: Duarte High School announces that after three seasons with the Duarte High School Football Team, Coach Lavell “Tip” Sanders has passed the baton on to his Defensive Coordinator Jason Martin. Coach Tip hired Coach Jason Martin prior to the 2010 season and has been grooming him to be his replacement. Coach Tip and Coach Martin have worked closely together for the last two years. Coach Tip has offered his full support to Coach Martin in the transition. Coach Tip will continue to work at Duarte High School as a Safety and Behavior Support Assistant. Duarte High School is grateful for the hard work and perseverance Coach Tip has displayed in rebuilding the DHS Football program. (To continue click thread).
Muir next for Tip? Assuming Sanders was not hired back because the school wants to “go in a different direction,” Muir seems like a great fit for Tip. Muir needs a walk-on coach and he’s the best walk-on they could find. The man does so much with so little, I can only imagine what he would do with a collection of talent that Muir provides.
Coach Jason Martin is a local. Coach Martin was a student of both Monrovia and Muir High Schools. He graduated from John Muir High School in 2002. He played receiver and corner during his sophomore and junior years at Monrovia High School under Coach Steve Garrison. He finished his senior year at John Muir High School. Coach Martin started at cornerback at Mount San Antonio College, the University of Arizona and the University of Idaho.
Coach Martin has confirmed that the existing assistant staff will be returning while he plans to bring on a few new faces to continue to grow the DHS Football Program. With the majority of this year’s roster filled with sophomores and juniors, graduating only 4 seniors, Coach Martin has been hard at work getting his players on a workout regimen to get ready for the 2012 season. The school will be breaking ground in February 2012, building a new athletic facility, ready for Coach Martin’s debut as head coach in 2012.
