Girls Soccer: Bishop Amat on a roll heading into prestigious Mater Dei tournament

By Fred J. Robledo
The Bishop Amat girls soccer team is off to another quick start after winning the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 title last spring.

The Lancers are 7-0-1 after beating always difficult Los Altos 2-1 last week.

Junior Natalie Rivas, who scored the game-winning goal in the Lancers’ 1-0 win over Ayala in last year’s championship game, already has five goals with five assists.

Two-time area player of the year April Juarez has five goals with six assists.

The Lancers will surely get tested this week in the prestigious Mater Dei tournament which starts on Thursday against perennial power Esperanza (2:30 p.m.), followed by San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic Friday (6:45 p.m.), and Dana Hills on Saturday (12:30 p.m.) — all at Mater Dei High School. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
