Prep Digest: Arroyo girls hold La Canada to 28 points and still lose; South Hills boys hoops win

Arroyo girls fall to La Canada in Arroyo Tourney round-robin game: The La Canada High girls basketball team held on to defeat Arroyo 28-24 in Pool `B’ play of the 17th Annual Lady Knights Christmas Classic on Tuesday despite a severely depleted roster and scoring a single point in the fourth quarter.

South Hills 64, El Monte 30
South Hills (6-3) was led by Chris Porter with 10 points and Steven Rubin-Woods pitched in with nine. Leading the Lions (1-7) was Johnny Casillas with nine points.

Baldwin Park 66, Alta Loma 50

Alexis Baron led the Braves with 20 points and added seven rebounds. Alex Delgado had 14 points, including three 3-pointers, and Danny Lopez contributed 11 points.
Damien 60, San Dimas 35
Damien’s (6-1) Chris Reyes led the Spartans with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Leading San Dimas was Reggie Brown, who scored 15 points.

Muir 74, Arcadia 51

Papurs Mayberry scored 15 points to lead Muir. Kevin Polk contributed 14 points. Leading Arcadia (0-1) was Jeff Razzwell with 14 points.
Arroyo 55, San Marino 53
The Knights (3-7) were led by Primitivo Gomez with a career-high 34 points. He also pulled down 13 rebounds. Leading San Marino (6-3) was Johnathan Hwang with 21 points.
Arroyo head coach Carlos Barajas said, “Good team win. We were down 22-9 after the first quarter but made some adjustments playing a better team defense the last three quarters resulting in today’s win.”

Gladstone 5, Ganesha 4

Gladstone edged Ganesha behind the scoring effort of two unassisted goals by Jorge Urieta with Kalin Valverde adding a goal on an assist from Jorge Mota. The Gladiators also got a goal from Melvin Villalva. Gladstone improved to 3-1-1 and 1-0 in league.

Duarte 3, Bassett 2
The Falcons were led by Edgar Leon with two goals. Miguel Martinez had the other.

Sierra Vista 3, Azusa 0

The Dons (2-0-1, 1-0) defeated Aztecs (2-2, 0-1) behind Daisy Ruiz, who scored two goals, and Jessica Lopez, who had the other.
