Bishop Amat’s girls soccer team lost all three games in the Mater Dei girls soccer tournament, losing to Esperanza (2-1), San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic (4-1) and Dana Hills (3-0).
Amat, who won the Division 3 girls crown and was the preseason No. 1 in the division, dropped to 7-3-1.
The three losses equal the total numbers of losses in Amat’s the two previous years combined. Amat was 27-1-1 in 2009 and 28-2 during last year’s championship run.
“It’s a great wake-up call for us,” Amat coach Ruben Gonzalez said of the poor showing. “We’ve been a little comfortable with what we’ve done. We need to get back to work and become a hungry team again.”
Amat has a non-league game at area power Sierra Vista on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
