Boys and Girls Soccer: Better late than never, top ten rankings coming soon; CIF rankings out today

| | Comments (15) |

There were no boys and girls soccer previews this year, a decision made for all our regional newspapers because we simply were overwhelmed with the winter season starting a week earlier. But that does not mean soccer coverage will suffer, especially at the Tribune, because it's one of my favorite sports. We'll start with boys and girls top ten rankings next week, and start covering games soon. I would encourage all coaches to update MaxPreps with rosters, results, etc, so we can all follow soccer and schedule the big games throughout the season. I would also like to hear from you, who you think are the best teams, best players and best games to cover. We also need all soccer teams to call in results for the paper and blog to 626-962-8811, ext. 2242, 2213 or email to scores@sgvn.com.

Sierra Vista Lady Dons will be playing in the Semi Finals on Monday at the Ganesha Tournament. Also in the Semi Finals is San Dimas. Sierra Vista will be playing Kepple. Don't remember who San Dimas is playing. I hope the Lady Dons meet up with San Dimas on the final on Monday, That would be a great game to see.

It would be great to get some coverage of the games on Monday, that is if there is no football, or basketball, or polo, or whatever going on that day.

The Lady Dons will also be meeting up with Bishop Amat on Wednesday December 21. I believe at 5 pm at the SV field. Can't say that Sierra Vista's schedule is easy this year. Lets see what the naysayers say of the Lady Dons this year.

Returning players forward Jessica Lopez, middle Jasmine Loera, and sweeper Xochitl "The Beast" Martinez are amazing players. We also have new talent that is rounding out the team.

Can't wait to see how far this team goes this year!

GO LADY DONS!!!!

Patrick, Wells, Soccer?!?!.....

Any of you guys got input on top 10 or top 5 in the valley? Sheesh, it's no wonder the Trib reduced their soccer coverage. Apparently no one cares anymore. And where are the boys bloggers? Really people? Is this what soccer has been reduced to in the SGV?

Wells,

I refuse to include Claremont in SGV Rankings. Just because they are in the Sierra does not mean they are in the SGV. I've never actually seen them play, but from what I've seen, on paper anyway, they look pretty impressive.

Diamond Bar was very good last year. They gave us all we could handle in both of our games! I would not be surprised at all to see them make some noise in the Hacienda.

Looking at early scores, it certainly appears the Hacienda is WIDE open! No clear-cut favorite!

Patrick is correct. The DB girls did beat San Dimas and Glendora. I saw the Glendora game and they are a strong team. The DB girls scored a goal in the last five minutes to claim the victory.

Our girls coach said that St. Lucy's has great skill at every position.

If Claremont is being considered, they are excellent, as well.

LA Futbol, are these rankings including Diamond Bars victory over Glendora (2-1) and a (1-0) victory over San Dimas???

Hey!!!! A soccer thread! Good job Fred. Way to pull your head out of your butt! LA Futbol, you're full of it buddy! How can you say Ayala is the better overall team if Amat beat them last year? Amat's gonna dominate again and earn their second straight title! Oh and you guys didn't "dominate" the first half against Amat! It was pretty even. Also. Insider that Juarez did not plague first half!

Am I the only one that recognizes the where the girls hand is in that picture. Not sure that pic was an appropriate choice for Fred.

For what it's worth, here are my Girls Soccer valley rankings:

1) Ayala (They were the better team last year ad will still be the better team this year. With all due respect to Juarez from Amat, Ayala has the most dominant player in the valley in Makezy Doniak. The thing about Ayala is they have no holes, no weaknesses. Amat may be better than them in certain spots, but not as a whole team.)

2) Bishop Amat (If anyone saw the Finals last year you know that Ayala dominated the entire game but simply could not finish. But give Amat credit, they battled all game, played excellent defense and grabbed a fluke goal for the win. Amat returns almost everyone from last year's CIF Championship squad. Two-time defending valley POY, April Juarez, is the most creative player in the valley. She makes everyone around her better! They've also added some solid freshman recruits...that's right, I said RECRUITS...who will add to an already solid side)

3) San Dimas (Almost came home with a ring last season. The Saints return most of their dominant players from last year and look to make another run toward a CIF title! The Duran sisters are one of the best one-two punches in the area! They'll breeze through an easy league schedule and probably not face a real challenge until quarterfinals of playoffs. By the way...they WHACKED Bonita and just beat Glendora!

4) Los Altos (Graduated their top two scorers from last year's team, other than that...pretty much everyone is back! The Conqueror's backline should be as good as anyone's in the valley. But the Conqs will only go as far as their offense can take them. Early scores have shown that LA will struggle offensively and possibly lose some tight games because of lack of goals. Expect a lot of ties for the Conqs this year!

5) St. Lucy's (Played Ayala tough last year and should have another good showing in the Sierra this year. I would NOT want to be a team in the Sierra this year! Chino Hills just beat Ayala, Charter Oak is going to be tough and South Hills is always solid. This league is the best top to bottom and St. Lucy's may just shock some people and come out on top!)

I stand corrected sir! The new ones were just posted this morning! Good job Freddy! That's why you're the professional! haha

Those are the rankings CIF sent out last night....Are you sure?

Fred,

That's exactly what I said. Don't be so sensitive man. I understand football is king of the valley and I'm sure the girls do too.

By the way, go on socalsoccer.org for the new division rankings. The ones you have are old.

Kind of hard to be at that game when West Covina is playing a CIF football championship, but thanks for the update...

Fred,

You already missed the biggest game in the valley last Friday. Amat defeated Los Altos 2-1 in a fantastic battle! The first half was dominated by the conquerors but Amats defense stayed tough and the Lancers eventually got a goal with less than a minute to play in the half.

The Conquerors tied it up 1-1 about 20 minutes into the second half on a brilliant header from freshman Jazzmyn Esquivel and the game looked to be headed for a 1-1 draw. But All-Everything midfielder, April Juarez played a beautiful ball to one of her teammates who blasted a top-shelf shot for the win with about 10 minutes left in the half.

It was too bad this game was played on the same day as the CIF Football Finals, otherwise we may have had some coverage of the game. Oh well. Great job to both teams!
