BREAKING NEWS: San Dimas-San Gabriel game moved to Saturday night AT MONTEBELLO HS.
UPDATE 8:44 P.M. -- The game will be at Montebello HS.
This text message from San Gabriel coach Jude Oliva regarding the semifinals of the Mid-Valley Division between San Dimas at San Gabriel, scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m, has been moved to Saturday.
Jude Oliva's text: "Unfortunately due to the damage and (the Alhambra Unified School) district shutting down (Friday) our game has been rescheduled until Saturday 7 p.m. site TBA."
San Dimas reaction: San Dimas wanted the game Friday, but it will be played on Saturday instead. The game will not be at San Gabriel, the school is looking for an alternate location. San Gabriel said they will have a decision on a location by 9 a.m., on Friday. We'll keep you posted.

Hey San Dimas, quit crying. Think of it this way, you're still in it for another day. Heard Zerncow is pissed....HAHAHAHAHA. This is nothing compared to what he will feel like after the game. Hey monrovia, see you next week!
SG knew very early in the day, but did not let SD know until around 4pm. SG got a full practice in, and witheld pertinent information from SD in order to cut their practice time down. Not cool Coach Olivia! Not sure why you would want to give the Saints ammo by playing these kind games.
Hey San Gabriel,
Moving the game to Saturday has nothing to do how we banged you guys up right? Is your Qb ribs going to be feeling better with that extra day of rest? Way to manipualte a situation to your benefit. How come you called Montebello in the morning and did let SD know till 3:00pm????
New Local,
It's not about having one fewer day to prepare in general, it's about having one fewer than your opponent. It's also about one set of coaches having to waist their time scouting for a game they won't play.
Speaking of bizarre systems: when I was coaching in New Jersey, our playoff started the week before Thanksgiving, and then the playoffs were disrupted for a week for the annual Thanksgiving Day rivalry games, and then the games resumed the week after. Another interesting concept was that teams that did not make it into the playoffs were afforded the opportunity to play a post-season game against other teams who did not make the real playoffs. This is intended to allow non-playoff team the opportunity to simply play more games and not be short-changed....similar to the NIT in college basketball, except I think it was limited to just one game.
The silver lining in all this is that I get to see both Semifinals for the mid valley this weekend.
Maybe the article about "Fridays only" gave the coach, a bright Idea about a "quick switch" on game day. Talk about pulling out all the stops. Good one San Gabriel, that Might be the edge you need to pull of the upset. I can't believe the school district went along with this. Wow the District is down for their football.
Funny to read about having one less day to prepare. Imagine being in CIF San Diego. They played Semi-Final Games tonight, one day shorter this week since quarter finals were Friday...WAIT it gets better....their Finals will be played this Monday 12/5! If you don't practice on Sunday (CIF rule in southern section, not sure about SD) you really don't get anytime to prepare your team.
parking where?
Why not have it at Mark Keppel? Its only like 3 miles away from San Gabriel HS...Back in the day when SG had no field they would play all their Home games at Keppel~
They felt that it was a good day to take a furlough day????? Why do they think a furlough on Friday is a good option if it causes their employees to have to work on SATURDAY??? Aram, is it safe to say the district's administrators are walking around blind without a cane on this one? One more thing: It's the PLAYOFFS!!! Those San Gabriel kids are getting cheated because administrators thought it was a good idea to take a furlough! Take it on Monday! You still get your three day weekend.
If the game is at Moor Field, I feel sorry for both teams!!!! That field is horrible, sorry Moors!!!!!
Moor Field
Of course they did aram. Hey Jude.... That just makes us more angry for your trash talking
You guys don't have the details of the situation. The problem is that Alhambra Unified felt tomorrow was a good day to have everyone take a furlough day. So that means there's nobody around to do any cleaning up or repair. Also, with the whole district off, there is no transportation for the district. So if the game did get moved to a nearby HS, there is no school transportation (buses and drivers) working that day to drive them there. So basically, because the entire school district is technically "OFF" tomorrow, they cannot come back at night and play this game. It's a screwy situation, but I get the feeling that if the school district weren't off tomorrow, they would play tomorrow.
Does anybody know on the status of CDF or Covina High School? Just wondering!!!! If it is on Saturday play it at CDF????
There are widespread power outages and trees down in that whole area. They need the extra day to get things cleaned up and power restored.
Even AZUSA is off tomorrow. Lots of widespread trees down all around the foothills.
New York I agree with you!!! This game should be played on Friday Night!!!! It's up to the host school to try to find another venue, and then both sides have to agree on that venue!!!! Would San Marino or even Monrovia step up and allow these teams play on there field????
WOW. SD has played ALL three teams already plus they played Azusa twice...talk about a level of familiarity with your playoff opponents! They are not Jerrod from Subway...they are not eating fresh!
Anyway, I think the WSGV needs to step up and find a suitable field to have these guys play Friday night. I mean, is San Gabriel's field guaranteed for Saturday? Is there any chance that it still won't be ready??? Too much uncertainty. They need to pick a field immmediately so that each coach can review the terrain and plan accordingly.
No matter what! I will be at the San Dimas game Saturday supporting the Saints and the Valle Vista League.
Colt74 your too funny!!! Honestly i don't I think having an extra day really matters here!!!! Pretty much everybody knows what they have and what other teams have!!!!! Especially for S.D. they played all 3 teams this season they already know what S.G., Monrovia, and Covina has!!!!!
The game was supposed to be played on Friday. That means on Friday coaches and players are ready. If you now at the last minute move the game to Sat...it gives coaches and players a night to UNWIND and go watch who their next opponent may be.
I'd be at the Covina - Monrovia game if I was coach Z in a hearbeat.
SaintsR4Real...thought about doing Pizza Chalet but decided against it. Pitchers of beer too much there and I don't want to have to be getting up and going to unload the ex beer during the game and chance missing something. Us old farts have weak bladders. You see for yourself soon enough.
I thought about Depends for a while but voted against it when the meds kicked in....
SaintsR4real,
I disagree. Coach Z would be at a disadvantage because Friday night he will still need to focus on his own game the next day. PLUS, San Dimas would have one fewer day to rest.
COLT74, WHERES THE TAILGATE TOMORROW NIGHT??
NEY YORK, I GUESS IT WOULD BE FAIR ACROSS THE BOARD, COACH Z AT CDF CHECKING OUT CTOWN AND MTOWN.
Aram's article regarding no more Friday/Saturday semis jinxed the San Dimas-San Gabriel game. Now Monrovia's coaches can watch their semifinal game....In my opinion, though, San Gabriel should be required to find a suitable field to host the game Friday night in order to maintain equity going into the Finals. One of the many schools around should step up the way Arcadia did for Monrovia's championship game last year. Maybe Temple City or San Marino High School???
Wow!! Looks like there will be alot more people at both games...awesome!
Something for Coach Oliva to take on consideration since S.G. H. S. visiting side is on the smaller end.
GO SAINTS!!!
