Girls Soccer: Yazmin Montoya leads way in Bishop Amat’s 3-0 win over La Salle; San Dimas, Wilson and Sierra Vista win; No. 1 Claremont vs. No. 2 St. Lucy’s tonight at Damien

Bishop Amat opens Del Rey with 3-0 win over La Salle: Bishop Amat High School wanted to quickly take control of Tuesday’s Del Rey League girls soccer opener against La Salle.
Senior tri-captain Yazmin Montoya made sure it happened. She scored in the ninth minute to get the visiting Lancers started en route to a 3-0 victory. “We wanted to start off league strong and we worked hard and got a good finish,” Montoya said.

Sierra Vista 3, Ganesha 0

The Dons (8-2-2, 5-0) got all three goals from Jessica Lopez with the assists coming from Daisy Ruiz, who had two, and Jasmine Loera. Sierra Vista took 18 shots on goal to Ganesha’s two.
The Giants (5-6-1 overall, 2-2 league) got seven saves from goalie Carolina Jimenez.

Valle Vista League
Wilson 6, Nogales 0

Wilson took a 4-0 lead at halftime and added two goals in the second half to improve to 3-1 in league play. Allison Kung scored three goals for the Wildcats, who got two assists and two goals from Sara Martinez. Kung also had with two assists and Yanelli Flores had one goal.
Goalie Kaylin Richard helped preserve the shutout for Wilson with four saves. The Wildcats had 14 shots on goal to Nogales’ five. Nogales fell to 2-1 in league.

San Dimas 12, Northview 0
Leading the Saints (11-2-2, 5-0) was Marybell Duran, who scored five goals and added four assists. Jordan Haynes added three goals. Britain Chaputa had five saves for San Dimas.

Nonleague
St. Paul 3, Pomona Catholic 1

The Swordsmen (3-8-1) took a 3-1 lead early and never looked back. Emily Rivera scored two goals, one off an assist from Megan Gomez. Marissa Lara added an unassisted goal.
St. Paul goalie Marissa Aguilar had four saves.

Preview: Ever since St. Lucy’s knocked off Flintridge Sacred Heart 1-0 in a December shocker, the buzz surrounding the Regents girls soccer team has grown. Flintridge Sacred Heart boasts seven players who verbally committed to a Division I scholarship and was ranked No. 1 in the country by ESPN when the Regents triumphed.
