Sierra League Soccer Roundup: St. Lucy’s girls beat No. 1 Claremont; Chino Hills boys rally to beat Ayala in overtime

St. Lucy’s 2, Claremont 1

The area’s second-ranked Regents knocked off the undefeated and top-ranked Wolpack behind a pair of goals from Nicole Lopez and Victoria Camaj to make an opening statement in the Sierra. Regents goalkeeper Heather Seman played a big role in the win and Shannon Kent and Sara Kashe each had assists as the Regents improved to 11-4 and 1-0 while the Pack dropped to 15-1-2 and 0-1 in a meeting between the Tribune’s top two-ranked teams.

South Hills 1, Charter Oak 0
Paige Rios scored the lone goal on an assist from Sharon Li to help the Huskies open the Sierra with a win. Goalkeeper Morgan Bello played a strong game with eight saves for the Huskies, who improved to 6-1-6 and 1-0 in league. The Chargers are 2-9-1 and 0-1 in league.

Chino Hills 1, Ayala 1
The Huskies and Bulldogs played to a 1-1 tie in the league opener. Amanda Tolliver scored off an assist from Meilessah Rangel to stake the Huskies to 1-0 first-half lead, but the Bulldogs tied it in the second half. The Huskies are now 12-1-1 and 0–0-1 and the Bulldogs are 4-5-3 and 0–0-1.

Chino Hills 4, Ayala 2, OT

The Bulldogs took an early lead when Giovanni Perelli scored in the nith minute. the game was still 1-0 early in the second half when Ayala went up 2-0. Johnny Gama got the Huskies back in in it with a goal and Josiah Leandro tied it in regulation 2-2, sending the game to overtime. Michael Montoya scored to put Chino Hills up 3-2 Eddis Virgen gave them an insurance goal in the second OT to notch the win.

Claremont 2, Damien 0 — The defending champion Wolfpack opened league in style on a pair of goals from Troy Ford and Stephen Barba. The Wolfpack scored both goals in the second half to improve to 12-2-1 and 1-0 while the Spartans fell to 5-7-1 and 0-1.

South Hills 1, Charter Oak 0 — No information on the game but the Huskies improved to 9-2-2 and 1-0 in the league opening win and will be at Damien on Friday. Would someone please tell the Huskies to at least post a roster on Maxpreps. This team is too good to go unnoticed.
