Damien’s step-up game a big step-back in loss to Etiwanda; Bishop Amat girls routed by Keppel

Big second half pushes Etiwanda pass Damien: Etiwanda boys basketball coach Dave Kleckner certainly thinks so after his star sophomore Jordan McLaughlin scored 15 of his 27 points in the second half and the Eagles (21-1) blew out Damien (19-2) in a 64-45 victory in Saturday’s Southern California Shootout at Azusa Pacific University.

“That was a quiet 27 points,” Kleckner said. “Because he’s not out of control. He’s very efficient.”

Etiwanda’s defense was as efficient as McLaughlin on offense.

The Eagles’ defense was good in the first half but was kicked up a notch in the second.

Damien led 25-23 at halftime, but the Eagles opened the second half on a 14-0 run as the Spartans were held scoreless for more than six minutes.

Bishop Amat girls no match for Keppel The Keppel High School girls basketball team, tired of cruising through the Almont League and then finding rough going in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, has amped up its schedule.

The Aztecs scheduled three nonleague games in the middle of league play, including Bishop Amat in the 10th annual Southern California Shootout on Saturday at Azusa Pacific University.

The strategy has worked so far. Keppel, the top-ranked team in CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA, easily defeated Amat, the top-ranked team in 3A, 57-31.

Glendora vs. Bloomington Christian – seriously. Does Mike LeDuc have an ounce of intergrity left? Did he ever? How in the Hades do you play so many cupcakes? I’m not questioning his record or accomplishments just the audicity to schedule the creampuffs he does and gets away with it. I’m ready for some new blood at Tartan High.

  • No gossip, just the facts

JoeBHall not to worry here’s the rumor making the rounds in the highest places at Damien. Coach Dunn has been looking to improve his career options and head to the collge ranks, I believe as an assistant if I’m not mistaken. Word has it he was trying to get on board at St. Mary’s with Chris Reyes. Coach Dunn has now sent to players to D1 schools in Reyes to St. Mary’s and Chris Adams to University of San Francisco. He also has fomer Chapman greats Justin Riley and Griffin Ramme finishing their carerslast year while University of La Verne has had Brian Mancilla, Austin Napoliano, Trevor Woodland and Jake Veith as cureent starters there so obviously colleges have a body of work to go on. Add to the equation the amount of wins and school records that have fallen in the past four years, and with Reyes leaving, it very possible Coach Dunn is gone after this year. In conversations with Coach Le Duc he has often said the only reason he did stya at Damien was Father Travers gave him no choice, and he’dlove to come back, his words. Coach Le Duc has nothing to prove to any one, doesn’t need the money and knows his legacy is intact so why not finish his coaching days on the same campus his wife works at. One thing to consider is Le Duc is a master of develping staffs and Glendora will do just fine once he steps down. All of what you’vejust read came from the horse’s mouth so take it to the bank Coach Dunn, just like so many young coaches today, see coaching as a career, financially speaking, and will move on. The days of the 30 year high schoolcoaching career is coming to an end, as we’ve seen with Football coaches recently. No gossip, just the facts. For those who love to complain about Le Duc do yourselves a favor and enjoy him while you can. Just imagine what Coach Le Duc would have done with Damien’s recent eight year talent pool. I honestly think he wins at least three more CIF Championships. Don’t laugh, the Spartans could have, and should have, won at least one by now with Reyes and Adams but lost in the Semis twice, Le Duc gets it done when he has the horses. Any one who doubts that doesn’t know what elbow extended means.

  • More facts to gossip about

LeDuc doesn’t seem like the guy that would work at one school and coach at another. Assuming LeDuc would rather cash his administrative paycheck at GHS until retiremen (and even though he might not “need” the money, he doesn’t seem like the guy who would leave money on the table either) t, what other options are their as replacements for Dunn if he should leave. Who does Damien “deserve”?
