Aram reporting that Covina stud running back Gevontray Ainsworth headed to champion Monrovia

Aram reporting that: Gevontray Ainsworth, who rushed for 1,469 yards and nine touchdowns last season as a member of the Covina High School football team, has checked out of Covina and enrolled at Monrovia.

Fred's thoughts: What's interesting about this is not so long ago Monrovia was losing players to the East San Gabriel Valley, but now that they're dominating the Mid-Valley and winning titles, players are staying and transferring in. Remember when South Hills was winning and getting all the transfers before before moving to the Sierra? When was the last time you heard a legit transfer going to South Hills or Los Altos, which was the hotbed for transfers a few years back. Now it's Monrovia, West Covina, and of course Charter Oak, who is still relevant after winning the Sierra. It's like I've always said, if you win, the players will come, it has little to do with actual recruiting. But I will be very curious to see what CIF does with this because on the surface, it has athletic motivation written all over it. Aram also is reporting that a Pasadena player has transferred to Monrovia. At this rate, they might break West Covina's CIF championship record of 84 points in a title game.

So the tougher division your in, the less chance u hae of being number one in the valley. congrats div 10 champ monrovia, but nowhere near no. 1 in the valley. the valley couldn't beat charter oak or south hills, so they got rid of them...oohh weee..nice way to take over

Monrovia/Duarte and Pasadena had to watch Charter Oak Win 2 back to back titles with several starters who were from out of area. We mentioned it, but never cried about it. Now that we monrovia has won 2 back to back titles, everybody is coming back home. It Feels good, at this rate, Monrovia will be able to compete with CO, BA, and Wesco or anyone else. This is a exciting time to be a Wildcat. There are at least 7 next level guys on the 2012 team. With Hard work, focus and a sense of urgency, the cats can have their first 14-0 season, and possible #1 ranking in the SGV.

Fred,

If Monrovia scores 81 they tie Kobe. But they have to score more than 84 to topple West Covina's CIF record. Chances are we will never see that amount of points scored in a title game again in our lifetime. It was a perfect storm that hit La Serna that night and their many turnovers did not help them much either.

Have no problem with it, always thought if Muir and Monrovia kept their talent at home, they would be among all the section giants.

Its a bit different when the transfers actually come back to where they should have been in the first place. The Ainsworth's were a big part of the Monrovia Duarte talent pool in the 80's and now that another generation has a chance to take on the role of keeping alive a winning tradition it can only be a good thing.
