Final CIF-SS Basketball polls: Once again, private schools have a huge advantage over the publics … Pairings announced on Sunday

The final CIF polls heading into Sunday’s CIF-Southern Section pairings are in these are all that matter. The tournament season and league is virtually meaningless because everyone goes there separate ways in the playoffs with huge advantages for private schools, where enrollment plays a much larger role than competitive equity, despite what anyone says. In boys, Damien is right where it should be, leading 3AAA with Bonita at No. 8. Two-time state champion Lutheran is No. 2 in 4AA, and Glendora slipped all the way to No. 12 in 2AA. But don’t count the Tartans out, they’re in a winnable division. Other teams like Covina, Northview, Wilson, Azusa, Walnut and Chino Hills, all of whom had solid seasons, virtually have no shot in the postseason because of their divisions. Speaking of which, the Bishop Amat girls are still No. 1 in Division 3A despite a 16-9 record and 2-4 mark in the Del Rey. Like I mentioned, league play is meaningless. Bonita is No. 2 in 3AAA and Diamond Ranch is No. 3 in 3AA. Those three are the only teams with a realistic shot at titles. You want to know why basketball playoffs smell of unfairness? While Amat is No. 1 in an easy division with public schools that can’t compete, Duarte and Workman have no chance of doing anything in Division 4AA with teams like Serra and St. Bernard — the teams that beat up on Amat in the Del Rey. Will someone explain how this is fair?
