Boys Soccer wild-card: Pasadena beats Los Altos 2-1 even though Bulldogs played a man down; Bonita wins 5-1; Chino Hills loses 2-0

Los Altos falls to Pasadena, 1-0: Every time the Los Altos High School boys soccer team had an opportunity, there stood pesky Pasadena in the way Tuesday afternoon.
Whether it was clearing goals – twice, no less – in the mouth of the goal or scoring on a counter in the second half just before playing a man down nearly the entire second half because of a red-card ejection, the Bulldogs put on quite the tease before making it official with a 2-1 win over the Conquerors in the wild-card round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs.

  • Win it all next year???

Who does this LA coach think he is saying Los altos will win it all next year in a recorded video interview? I can’t believe a coach would be stupid enough to say something like that when he just lost in a wild card game, and a man up on the other team. This team has done nothing but fall from the great valley power it was a few years back. This team used to be lights out. What happened?

  • Soccerfan

He is a bully…He thinks he knows it all…He’s not a good coach but he’s been ripping all the hard work done by the prior coach and all the talent left to him.

  • Win it all next year???

Soccerfan, how is this kid a bully? He can’t be more than five foot four and a buck twenty five in weight. And how does he rip the prior coaches hard work. The previous coaches teams would have beat this kids teams by more than five goals and would not allow even one goal. This new kid has a ton of talent, but doesnt have a clue how to put it together. This team might even have more talent than a couple of the previous coaches early teams, but they cannot even hold a candle to them.

the los altos soccer team is very young , i do believe that they can win it all next year. with only loosing 3 starting seniors this year, they will come out strong next year. WATCH !

I would NEVER call Los Altos Boys Soccer a “GREAT VALLEY POWER” or “LIGHTS OUT.” They have had some very good/talented teams in the past and make it to about the 2nd round in the playoffs which isnt bad but that doesnt warrant the label of “GREAT.” They have had some GREAT talent over there but the main thing this team lacks isn’t necessarily coaching..its toughness and more physical play. High school soccer is a physical game and thats what los altos usually lacks on their teams. They might have one or two “enforcers” but as a team just aren’t tough enough. Their coach was just trying to stay positive about the teams outlook for next year but winning it all might be a stretch.Blame the coaches all you want but its the boys who play on the field and they can eaily make the decision to play harder and work to win. The talent at Los Altos is good but I have been around some of those boys and they all think they are the next superstars. Until they get over their own ego and remember its about the team then maybe they can one day be a great valley power. Until then, they will underachieve year after year.

  • LA Futbol

Good coaches make great players buy into that “team” mentality. See Phil Jackson!

    LA Futbol,

That is very true and I agree with you 100%. However, this isnt the pros, its high school and on top of that it’s Los Altos. Until the administration puts some thought and consideration into hiring a boys coach it will always be the same. Most guys can walk in there and say they played soccer for x amount of years and next thing you know they are hired.

You talk about Los Altos like it’s different than any other high school in the area. Kids are kids, man. Look at what Ziola did this year with the football team. He got those boys to buy into a “team” mentality and they did great things! Los Altos has a leadership problem. I agree with you…it starts with their administration but coaches can pretty much run their programs how they see fit. If you have individuals, get them to buy in or get rid of them. Team should always come first. Don’t blame the kids.

  • Win it all next year???

Matt, first I agree with you about LA, they really need a new coach, especially with some of comments coming directly out of his mouth about the lack of support by his AD. I disagree about your comment of LA from the past. I did say great valley power because there were a few years where very few of the sgv teams could beat LA, I never said great soccer power which seems like how you took it.
