Softball: St. Lucy’s beats Bonita 7-2

Game Story: Experience was the difference in an opening day matchup between two of the San Gabriel Valley’s best softball teams.

St. Lucy’s Priory, ranked fourth by the Tribune, jumped out to an early lead and rode the strong left arm of senior Danielle O’Toole in knocking off fifth-ranked Bonita 7-2 Thursday afternoon.

The Regents, who were patient at the plate, took advantage of an error and scored two runs in the top of the first to take a lead they never gave up.

At least I got the right team winning. Just trying to get some scores in as soon as possible. Thanks for the corrections.

The St. Lucy’s coach doesn’t report scores to the paper, update Max preps with scores, schedule, stats, or the roster. He had the same issue last year that upset parents and fans. Come on coach, do your job or assign these important resonsibilities to one of your capable assistants.

R Gary, The problem is his assistants aren’t any more capable than he. It’s unfortunate but true. This team is deep in talent, it is the coaching that holds them back from accomplishing much more. A coach from an anonymous O.C. school said he heard the coach arging with parents in front of other kids and another school, Not a very tactful move I must say.

    Slick,
Thanks for your take on the situation. Looks like a continuing problem from last year. any info on why the team had to forfeit a game this year in the Brea tournament?

I believe it was a miscommunication on the coaches part, The Tourney brackets were out for weeks and they had a senior dance scheduled that’s been on the the same weekend for years, Yet the coach did nothing to prepare for this, I assume he had more important things to tend to than to address any scheduling issues. This will unfortunately be St Lucy’s downfall this year, I believe Bonita is in the same boat, A coach that is holding them back as well, Although they clearly do not have the talent they’ve had in years past.

There was a father daughter dance for seniors that night and it was pre-arranged to have some JV players come and fill in. Mejia, the worthless jv coach ,told them not to go and caused the forfeit.

Thanks for the info. Why in the world would a coach tell players not to show up for a scheduled game.? Talk about miscommunication and lack of organization. Hopefully the Administration looks into this. This should never happen. Are we ever going to see updated Max preps??
