La Verne Lutheran and Bishop Amat hoping to survive second round of state playoffs

It’s easy to look at tonight’s CIF State Division IV second-round boys basketball playoff game between Central Valley Christian of Visalia and La Verne Lutheran High School as anything other than a battle of two Pacific-12 Conference-bound standouts.

Central Valley Christian is led by 6-foot-8 forward Grant Verhoeven, who will play at Stanford next season. Lutheran, of course, features 6-10 forward Grant Jerrett, who will play at Arizona.

They figure to put on quite a show tonight at the University of La Verne. Tipoff is 7 p.m.

Lutheran wins 57 to 42. Was in command the whole time and was never threatened.

  • IE Basketball

Lutheran wins, CVC played hard and didn’t give up but the game was never seriously in doubt. In the battle of the two bigs, Grant Jerrett was far and away better with Verhoeven getting a fair amount of his points with Jerrett on the bench.

  • Big game coming up

So La Verne Lutheran plays Price for the 2nd time this year and for about the 10th time in the last 3 or 4 years for he right to meet Serra or whoever they play (my memory is failing me, but I know they are good because they beat Crespi!) in the finals. Hopefully he Trojans can make it 2 and 0 this year vs. Price and then avenge their loss to Serra to get to Arco again!
