Maggiore on new challenges in Southeast

West Covina football coach Mike Maggiore on the revamped Southeast Division: “I think that’s a fair, competitive division,” Maggiore said of the new Southeast proposal. “There are some athletes (in the San Gabriel Valley League) and some big schools. If it makes it more fair and competitive for everyone, then that’s the right thing to do. We’re not going to be like we have been every year. We just want to be competitive in the division we’re going to be in. I’m fine with anything. It’s not going to change anything we do.”

When is a college going to notice Maggiore and swoop him up? Dude is a stud and could easily take over any of the local programs and kick them up a notch!

When was the last time you seen a college football team run the wing T offense and was successful? Not hating but any coach that base his entire offense on the wing T is not coaching at all. Yes i know their accomplishments but before the last 2 years why werent they so successful with the wing T. or better yet when they played their step up games what was the results? WC is a “good” program not great but in the lower divisions is exactly where WC belongs. PAC5 football would embarrass those guys. Just like if any college team signs him on and he brings the wing T there then embarrassment to that college would be guaranteed. He’s a “good” coach for the position he’s in i applaud him and congrats him but that offense just wouldnt work. Yes i know Margarita ran it to but margarita ran a more option type offense not wing T.

P.S i know a pop warner football coach that hasnt lost in 5 years that run the same offense i wonder why he hasnt even scratched the high school coaching position yet.

  • Huskies in the house!

Not to defend Maggiore but he did go to the spread offense one year. Oh wait that’s right. West Covina failed miserably attempting to modernize their offense with top tier programs in our valley and beyond.

I agree, West Covina is impressive in our fishbowl but in the real world gets beat convincingly week after week. Why is that none of our more successful coaches ever left and went on to move to bigger even just high school level programs?

Bogan almost left for Maranatha a few years ago and Gano is now at Damien but what would Maggiore do if he was at a Bishop Amat, La Habra, Crespi, or Long Beach Poly?

Maybe he would combine those stellar staffs from West Covina and Monrovia and be a juggernaut.

    NOT!

I’m telling you boys! West Covina’s days are numbered and South Hills is quietly going about their business. Let’s just say this is the calm before the storm. Huskies are back and are going to be better than ever. Lights out!

  • SGVL

The SGVL will be a good fit for this divison. La Serna beat Downey & Warren. Mayfair beat Downey. Heck, even Monrovia beat Paramount. It’s a solid league but not good enough to compete in their division. Downey, Paramount, & Dominguez shared the league title and non of them got out of the 1st round.
    Seems fair all around.

Maggiore could probably give a rip what is posted on here, but you are linkning him with the offense WC runs. The PAC 5 has given them some whooppins not based on the offense they run, but on having more depth of better players. He is probably the best defensive line coach in the area. If you do not believe me, ask some of the area coaches who have seen film. Heck, I think Brady Hoke asks him every year to come coach defensive line for him. Hoke was his coach in college. You shouldn’t bash the man until you know what he is about.

This could make it tough for WC. Season before last Domingues beat Noter Dame and Cespi( though they lost to Amat) and that was a year Crespi beat Vista Murrietta! They’re just as apt to come up with the same kind of team that could derail the Bulldogs
