Baseball league titles on the line today: Nogales looking to wrap up VVL; La Puente wants payback after Azusa cost it the league title last year; Claremont, yes Claremont, can win the Sierra and Amat can win a league title without playing

Valle Vista League: It all comes down to the final two-game series between leading Nogales (20-5, 9-1) and second-place San Dimas (16-7, 8-2). The Nobles already have swept Covina and Northview, beating the Vikings twice last week in one-run games. Nobles veteran coach John Romano has 593 victories, but all the Nobles need is a split to win the league title. The first game is at San Dimas today at 3:15 p.m., and if the Saints win, the championship is Friday at Nogales.

Sierra League: Claremont (12-9-2, 7-5-1) can win the Sierra League title. Really? That’s the scenario with South Hills (15-7, 9-4) facing the Wolfpack twice this week. If South Hills wins at home today at 3:30 p.m., the Huskies win the title. If not, both teams will meet again Friday for the outright title at Claremont. BTW, I thought there were no ties in baseball. Claremont is 1 1/2 games behind South Hills because of a 3-3, 14-inning tie with Damien that was called because of darkness in April.

Montview League: Sierra Vista (15-5, 10-2) and La Puente (14-10, 10-2) are locked in a first-place tie with two to play. Sierra Vista finishes with a pair against fourth-place Duarte at home today, and at Duarte (15-7, 7-5) Friday. La Puente ends at Azusa (8-11, 7-5) today and home against Azusa on Friday. If I’m La Puente, I make sure I’m not conducting an illegal batting practice at Azusa, the team that called them on it last year, costing the Warriors a share of the league title. They finished a game-behind Sierra Vista after forfeiting a 3-0 win to Azusa. Time for payback.

Del Rey League: The pressure is on La Salle (17-7-1, 9-2) this afternoon. La Salle did the heavy lifting by taking 2 of 3 from Bishop Amat (18-9, 10-2) to put themselves in position for their first Del Rey League title ever. But La Salle blew its chance to win the title outright with an 8-1 loss to St. Paul on Monday. La Salle can share the league title and go to the playoffs as the league’s top entry with a win at St. Paul today at 315 p.m., but if they lose, Amat wins the title outright without having to play a league game this week.

Claremont…don’t make me laugh. Let me tell you how this will play out. They get swept by SH. Damien will sweep Ayala. Claremont finishes in 4th place in the Sierra behind SH, Damien and either CO or CH. Come Monday, they will be begging CIF for a wild card game.

Claremont can make some noise. They played Damien tough and beat them once and already beat south hills once, I’m hoping south hills helps out Damien. But Damien must take care of their own business first vs Ayala.

  • GoAmat

CAN’T HEAR U LA SELLE????? So u have to share the league title with according to La Selle fans the over rated team “AMAT” How funny is that? Bet the fans never thought that was going to happen If your lucks not dry. “Maybe u might win today and be the top entry?????”

  • SGV Fan

Thats right Go Amat, the del rey title isnt yours this year! Great job La salle! You won it fair and square without a coin toss or some lucky fluke!

  • Kleine Field

Hey SGV Fan, congratulations on league title. Don’t forget to post celebration on YouTube. BTW, during the playoffs, are the Lancers playing all home games at Citrus College to avoid the long ball?

  • GoAmat

WRONG!! La Selle has to SHARE the title with who else but us AMAT!!! A win today will ONLY give them top entry. Thanks St Paul!!

    Sierra League:
    Damien 13-4 over Ayala
Chino Hills 5-1 over Charter Oak
South Hills 6-5 Over Claremont in 8 innings.

  • Please, Amat’s nothing this year. Just a over-rated catholic school in an easy Division. Fred can you believe this? Here you go, history in the making and a change of the guard!

  • Real talk

La salle Is the new Amat? Come ooon mannn really. There are some straight up clowns up in here or should I say a clown. I had a good laugh for like a hour. What is the record of la salle vs Amat. Amat got cought playing with their food when they played la salle.

For you D2 fans the CBL title has been decided with REV beating Yucaipa 5-4 in 14 innings to assure them of the #1 CBL team. Yucaipa will finish #2 as they hold the tiebreaker over Redlands who will forfeit their friday game vs AB Miller due to having played 6 games in winning the Tucson spring tournament. Redlands will be the #3 team with a on the field record of 22-4.
REV will due well in the playoffs with 2 D1 quality pitchers (Jackson McClelland(Peperdine) and Justin Jacome(UCSB). The 3# pitcher Kevin Stevens is going to Cal Baptist. REV record is not that great due to losing a lot of games in a Arizona tournament.

So I am halfway to my prior prediction below. The rest will come on Friday, unless SH lays down which they shouldn’t for CIF seeding purposes.

  • Spartans Fan

Hopefully South Hills plays hard, because Danien needs South Hills to beat Claremont, and hopefully Charter Oak beats Chino Hills too. And if Damien wins they get this help they get second.

La Salle scorekeeper; update Bubba’s pitching stats on Maxpreps, a homerun was hit off him on a REAL baseball field.

  • GoAmat

You real want to laugh??? Even after la sellles win yesterday. AMAT IS RANKED 53 in the state and la sellle is ranked 159. Plus. La selle lost by 7 points to a time that is ranked 388 in the state. Now that’s funny!! Sharing is caring!! GOOD LUCK BISHOP AMAT. WHO WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP LAST YEAR? Can’t replace us in any shape or form. **you have a long way to go!

Hey fake Amat Fan, you’re trying to hard. It’s obvious you’re not an Amat Fan so please stop.

When do Brackets come out for Play-offs? Does anyone know?

  • Sierra

I almost had it right. Didn’t expect Damien to blow a lead against last place Ayala. Claremont backed into the playoffs and will now be one and done.
