Baseball: South Hills clinches Sierra League title with 6-5 win over Claremont in 8 innnings

South Hills beats Claremont in extra-innings to clinch league title: In typical Sierra League fashion, there would have to be some dramatics.

South Hills High School’s baseball team scored a run in the seventh to tie visiting Claremont at 5, then scored another in the eighth to win 6-5 and clinch the league championship on Wednesday afternoon. Only, it wasn’t nearly as easy as it sounds.

Congratulations to South Hills. Sergio Loa doubles in top of 8th and Daniel Ramos drives him in. That followed the game being tied in the bottom of the 7th, Danny Sheehan lead off hit, followed by a base hit by Tony Muniz, putting runners on first and second. CJ Saylor singles in Sheehan. Claremont pitches out of a bases loaded no outs situation to set up the eighth. Kevin McKelvey pitches complete game for victory.

SH wins a tight one. Sheehan had his first error of the season France/ Saylor solid but the unknowns on the team win it. SH played sloppy and didn’t capitalize to break it open several times.

South Hills has not even played to their potential this entire year. They are so much better than they have played. Prediction they will peak at the right time and go deep into playoffs.

SH has a simple formula. Sheehan gets on Muniz sac bunt Saylor or France score Sheehan game won. But today bottom of the lineup finally did something. Get hot now.
