Tuesday’s Second Round of Baseball/Softball playoff home and away dates set

Just Tribbin Thoughts: With so many great games to choose from, where should we go? We might be able to cover five or six, it’s just too bad softball and baseball play on the same day. In the past when you reached the second week, softball played Tuesday-Thursday and Baseball Wednesday-Friday. Oh well, that’s just me being selfish because I want to cover more games. I don’t feel like reading anything on the Lakers today, so my second-round predictions are in CAPS next to the game.

When are the baseball all stars announced.

  • jocko conlan(the last of the left-handed MLB umpires)

hey fred j…where is Duarte now? your number 4 team, lost at home to a so-so THIRD place team.once again you showed your complete lack of knowledge when it comes to judging a teams relative ability, that Montview league went a collective 0-4 in the playoffs, you must be the worlds worst handicapper…there are claiming horses, allowance horses, stakes horses and handicap horses, Duarte is a claimer! enough said. Please don’t confuse Montview league softball success with anything other than claimers ..viva the libero!

  • ejole

Correction jocko, they lost to a forth place team from a weak league….YIKES.

  • Fred Robledo

There are only six area teams left in the playoffs, I run a top ten. Hope you enjoy knocking a team when it’s down.

  • Fred Robledo

After the top four or five teams, there wasn’t much of a difference with the rest…I don’t care if you rip me, but deleted your last comment because I’m not going to let you rip a team like that, use a better choice of words or grow up, your beef is with me, not those girls.

  • jocko conlan(the last of the left-handed MLB umpires)

how about your softball ratings are not well thought out, to have a D5 team from a league that went 0-4 in the playoffs no less, as your 4th team…….c’mon now libero

  • R Gary

I see that Dutch Lennert is now Jocko Conlon, who’s next Augie Donatelli??

The Montview League went 0-4 which is no surprise, but the Hacienda didn’t do much better and got blown out going 1-3.

  • jocko conlan(the last of the left-handed MLB umpires)

actually Dutch is a good friend from my neck of the woods and it’s RENNERT

  • junior

    Del Rey went 1-3 also

  • R Gary

Jocko, My bad it is Rennert. What a character he was, umpired during the great days of baseball. Loved to hear Vince Scully talk about him and the other colorfull umps. Who was the guy that “shot” the guy out at second base using his finger and thumb?

  • jocko conlan(the last of the left-handed MLB umpires)

Rennert had the booming voice, his strike calls could be heard throughout the ball park….he offciated HS and College basketball in the off-season…not sure who used the pistola technigue..I got a face for him but no name, sorry

  • Regents

Hold your head high ladies, you won a league championship, only a handful of teams in valley can claim that. Unfortunately the Montview league does not prepare the team enough for playoffs. I would suggest scheduling some of the non-league games towards the end of the reg season in order to get ready for CIF. Nevertheless, Congratulations!

  • sgv scouting

Let’s wish the very best of luck to former SGV alum Courtney Gano as she and the Washington Huskies are in the regional final for the NCAA softball tournament. The game will be shown at 1:30 P.M. on ESPN2.

  • bobby gray

I see the Monrovia BB game listed, but is there no love for Monrovia SB? The Lady ‘Cats are still alive and play at Morro Bay.

  • Spartans Fan

It looks like Damien is the underdog again, its ok, because they usually win while being underdog, so keep making them underdogs.

  • softball fan

ST. LUCYS will perform better as a team now that they have better coaching and removing the designated hitter from the team. GO REGENTS!

  • Fred Robledo

Monrovia is listed here because they’re playing a Trib (Amat) team. Monrovia softball should be listed on Miguel’s blog.

Speaking about the Lakers……I was just reading about how often the folks in the media say that Coach Brown seemly always getting out couched by his opponents whenever they loose a game. But they would never say the same if it were Phil, would they ???

Anyhow, it seems as if these folks want Phil back or something. Hum…..

Anyway, I happened to run across this article the other day, and because were “Just tribbin” today, I thought I’d share that with you all….

LAKESIDE, MTIn a rare interview from his Montana ranch that aired Saturday on SportsCenter, former Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he has found his retirement dealing with the egos of his star cattle, who BTW, all hate each other, much the same as when he had to deal with the very same issues of his former NBA all stars.

“It’s nice to just be out here enjoying the quiet of nature meditating on the leisurely pace of pastoral life, however, juggling the personalities of a few talented animals, who would rather spend all day squabbling about “who’s ranch this is,” rather than contributing to the welfare of this place, is just incredibly mind boggling sometimes” said Jackson, who at the time of this interview, was repairing his trademark “triangle fence” after a steer decided it was “holding him back.”

“Honestly, there’s nothing I would rather be doing in my halcyon days than relaxing and enjoying my retirement, but, it just seems as if all that im doing right about now, is placating selfish beings who want all the grass for themselves, and aren’t willing to “share the ball” so to speak.

“Dealing with all these animals, reminds me of all those years I spent as an NBA coach, so I guess if im going to be dealing with animals who are are not willing to be good “team mates to one another,” then I guess I’d rather be getting paid !”

Look for Phil to be back along a sideline next year……

  • Serendipity

Fred, While most of your SB predictions seem spot on, Chino Hills will mop the floor with La Serna, I’ve seen them out at Brea Olinda and I can’t see them even competing with CH, But it is Softball and strange things happen, Look at the Pac12!

  • Private School Alumni

What no talk of private school “dominance”?

I miss reading all that envy disguised as “concern”.

  • sgvbaseball

Fred – do you know when the sgv allstar game rosters will be annnounced?

  • socalbaseball fan

The winners today will be Cypress,South Hills and Damien. South Hills will be in for a tough game as Canyon Springs is the only team to beat Redlands outside of the league. Cypress will beat Glendora 5-2 and Damien will whip Mission Viejo 7-5.

  • Old Timer

    Question?

Fred why have you not been reporting etc about your boy Rio from Amat of late, I am curious as you usually report everything. You either know and are quiet or do not know? Thoughts??

  • update

Rio has still not been cleared medically to play, but is still with the Lancers supporting them along the way. i’m sure he’s looking forward to the day he can play again, and finishing his senior year with his eye on the MLB draft. i’m su based on where and by who he gets drafted will determine whether he chooses to honor hos NLI and attend USC – or sign a pro contract. Tough choices to have. Hope that satisfies your curiousity

  • Fred Robledo

Like the previous commenter mentioned, there’s nothing new to report on Rio, he probably won’t return the rest of the season. He won’t be cleared while he’s taking blood-thinning medication.

  • socalbaseball fan

In the latest baseball america draft projection Rio Ruiz is listed as the #34 prospect among all draft eligible players. Justin Garza is in the 130′s. Highest rated so cal player is P Lucus Giolito from H-W who currently is injured. H-W has P Max Fried at #15.
