Tribskin Pick’em: Your picks and ours

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season for our annual dinner bet.Week 0 results are in

Last Week: Robledo (15-6); Tolegian (12-9).
Season: Tolegian (15-6); Tolegian (12-9).

Last Week: As far as predictions go, this is one of my worst opening weeks in history but Aram was even worse, so I’m leading by three after Week 0. Aram missed what I think is a Tribskin record nine games, he barely stayed above .500. He took Bonita, Servite, Arroyo and Nogales, who all lost. Surprisingly, he nailed a shocker in Mountain View over Alhambra and called South Hills over Colony. I picked up games on Aram by taking San Dimas over Bonita, Los Altos over Arroyo, Montclair over Ganesha, Rowland over Noglaes and Diamond Ranch over Chino.

This week: With Loyola struggling to put away Harvard-Westlake combined with West Covina winning so easily over Covina without QB Jon Najera at quarterback, I’m calling the upset of West Covina over Loyola. The Bulldogs have played these step-up games in the past and got pounded, but I don’t have that feeling this time. It’s time for the Bulldogs to show the Valley Amat’s not the only area team that can take down the big boys. Another semi-upset call, if that’s what you want to call it, is Ayala over Monrovia. Jordan Robinson was spectacular in his debut win over Diamond Bar, and having a home game and a game under its belt should benefit the Bulldogs, who are extremely talented. I think Chino Hills is going to give Amat all it can handle. The Lancers may have not come down from the clouds after Friday’s big win over Servite, so Chino Hills is getting them at the right time. But Amat wins. As improved as Damien is, not sure they’re ready to handle Orange Lutheran. I like Charter Oak big over Roosevelt and for San Dimas to crush Azusa.

Hey Fred . U picked loyola in parenthesis but said west Covina in an upset .

  • Fred Robledo

Corrected, Maggiore’s going to win this for Edgewood.

  • Observantcat

Fred, Chino hills did not lose.

  • JMO

” The QB spot is a huge question mark as is the running game with Kurt Scoby now at St Paul.” You also mentioned needing to score big in the Inland and now have CO blowing out Roosevelt. 35-28 with Santiago and Scoby last year Fred “futbol” Robledo.

  • no upset here……

after watching what crescenta valley did to monrovia. i can totally see the experienced Ayala team will beat the highly hyped Monrovia team.

  • COLTS

I’d like to start off by saying:

Hats off to WC football in general. The coaches, players and fans.

Very much a class act on all your behalfs.

The Bulldogs worked my Colts on friday night, But believe it or not. I was impressed with the effort the Colts gave. The boys played hard all the way through. I would say all is not lost in CTOWN, the coaches will have these boys ready and functioning on all cylinders by the time league play rolls around. We will see just how
much improvement they make this week vs LP.

Reminds me alot of my team at Covina a few years back.

We will be Ready: just keep working hard boys.

    CTOWN

  • Salesian is LA’s Monrovia

Los Altos! Really Aram? How do you miss Salesian?

They you’re all over Monrovia’s nuts b/c they the “sexy” team, with all that talent, how do you miss Salesian…maybe b/c they’re in Los Angeles.

Well, let me help. They have all kinds of transfers…it’s how they roll. They have 5 kids with D-1 offers, and we’re talking PAC 12! A QB who threw for 3200 yards and 38 TDs a year ago, a WR who has already committed to UCLA and two blue-chip DEs, who combined for 25 sacks last year (as sophs).

This is your kind of team!

P.s. Norwlak is surprise team of Southeast…they will run for 500 yard against D-Bar this week!

  • QB Coach

I know Salesian is not your wheel house but your both off on that one.

Salesian will win this one easily so one of you change your pick and its an easy one up.

Aram you talk about D1 prospects often and Salesian has a few gems of ther own.

Good Luck to all this weekend.
(PS not hating on LA one bit bust Salesian is the very good this year)

Nice weekend of high school football, congrats to all the winners and to those who lost keep your heads up it’s only week 0. Colt 74 despite the score your Colts played tough and are once again another physical team, they will do fine in the Mid Valley, not a bad looking team considering they lost 18 starters to graduation.
Question to you, is that stud running back from last years freshman Covina team up on varsity? Certainly seems like he would be a big help this year.
Amat 73, Joe A., Jcaz, congrats to your Lancers, that’s a great win over Servite. As fans you get to savour the moment for this week at least.
West Covina will be an underdog this Friday and will have their work cut out in stopping a powerful Loyola run game. Big line and three very good running backs will make for quite a challenge. Last year with no Solomon or Frazier they shut down our offense.
This year WC will have some speed that they didn’t have last year, and with WC’s newfound ability to pass, it will be interesting to see what we can do in this game. Loyola shut down Harvard Westlake’s run game last week, but HW was able to spread out and pass on the Cub defense to keep them a td ahead for half the game, eventually the Cubs made some stops and overpowered HW with the run game to go get the win late.

Well, I’m Drawing a line in the Sand. I’ll be taking Names.

I don’t care what CV did against Monrovia. I have My Cats in this one. If Monrovia wins that would be upset by they way people talk about D11 football. How could Monrovia be the favorites coming out of the RHL and Midvalley? Ayala comes out of the sierra, and Inland? Obviously the paper has Ayala as the Favorites. Either we view teams individually regardless of division and respect them, or we respect Monrovia’s upper division wins regardless of whether is Ayala, South hills.

    Monrovia 31 Ayala 20.

If anyone thinks that Loyola is going to spank WesCo like last year it ain’t a gonna happen. WesCo COULD have put up over 50 against my COLTS no problem but as a testament to coach Maggiore they didn’t.
Sure my COLTS are still in the learning curve and may still be against La Puente. But they impressed the hell out of me with where they are today compared to where they were in April. I’ll lay down my $6 each week and cheer them on no matter what.
WesCo is talented and can execute. I really believe they did not tip their hand to Loyola when they played us. Friday night I will find out, but my money is on the Bulldogs.

    WesCo by 12.

  • My Two Cents

    @Fred,
Good pick taking Ayala over Monrovia. Salesian, though a D13 school, supposedly have five D-1 athletes. Is the coaching that bad you don’t think they can beat Los Altos?

  • Fred Robledo

Two cents…I don’t know much about Salesian or what they had coming back or who transferred in. I was looking at last years results and what Los Altos did to Arroyo last week. Maybe I’m wrong about Salesian, we’ll find out. It’s one of those things, picking so many games early, just don’t have to time to scout every away team the way we should.

  • Conq76

Regarding LA vs. Salesian, don’t know much about either team but Salesian beat Sierra Vista 22-0 last week and SV is ranked quite a bit lower than was Arroyo who is 551 while SV is at 680.

I’m sorry but there is no way Loyola losses this game to WC. I just don’t see it guys. It will no doubt be a hard fought game but Loyola as a program will not let this happen. WC will be sharp and may come out with all cylinders firing but in the end, the Cubs history of playing in these types of games and against better opponents wins them the game. Not trying to WC hate but as a football fan, that’s what I see happening. That being said, good luck to WC and add another star to the SGV helmet come the end of Friday night. I will resign my tenure if I’m wrong.
