Well Fred, since the cat is out of the bag, we have great senior leadership and a TEAM in every respect of the word. There are also some very good junior players too. Of the 4 sophomores on the roster…3 of them start and they are all studs. Next up….Chino Hills.

  • 12th man

I see you took matters into your own hands!! What’s next Stats? lol..
Recruiters don’t need stats to know who the top players are from every division..These guys have been doing it for A long time before social media & the internet came out..
Sometimes teams just want to stay away from all the hoopla & fame that come with “stats” turning a united team into a one man show & it’s every man for himself syndrome..
I respect Bishop Amat’s decision not to post stats at this time..They have A young athletic under the radar type of team which seems to be jelling with teamwork..
    Why ruin a good thing?

  • amatlover

RICHARD CASTRO IS A STUD AND WILL SEE THE ENDZONE. JUST WAIT BABY! LANCERS!!!

  • OL/DL

Pretty decent size lines compared with recent Amat teams. These arent necessarily starters but are the biggest players at these positions.

  • Fred Robledo

Amat 75, don’t you understand it’s a sarcastic post needling the school for not posting a roster

  • amatlover

#22 Rene Carillo is the real deal! hes only 160 5’10 alll muscle. He gets in and out of those holes pretty quick!!

  • WHO CARES

now remind me on why this is so important??
its a roster and every kid lies about there height and weight. you automaticly add 2 inches to your height and 10 to 15 pounds to your weight so people think your a STUD…

    thank you,
    MR. LOS ALTOS

    12th man,
Thanks for your comment, you hit the nail on the head. Our boys are playing for the name on their chest not the one on their back.

    Amat Grand and Dad
What if USC took on the same philosophy and only shared its roster in a pay program, and never shared its stats. Would you still be defending them saying it’s about the name on the front of the chest, not the back of the jersey?

Forget the argument of stats for a minute, but what is the harm in posting a roster on a school website?

Bigtime high school programs are now creating sports information directors and writing weekly press releases, yet Amat can’t get a roster on its website, what’s wrong with that? If you’re going to be bigtime, you have to treat your program like it’s bigtime.

  • Amat Grad & Dad

    Fred,
Amat doesn’t post a roster of any of our teams on the school website. Why would football be any different?
This team is working as one and by what I could see it’s working out better than when we have “superstars”. If their coach and school administration decided to leave it at that they are the AMAT Lancers, then I believe it should have been left at that.
I usually agree with you on most of your posts but just on this one. We’re all entitled to our opinions, right? Especially when it involves our kids.

Thanks for all the awesome coverage, like I said, we just don’t agree on this one…

Btw, never been a USC fan

Again, whether you win or lose has nothing to do with posing a roster or stats. If you think for one second that beating Servite or anyone else is somehow related to not posting stats of the players who become superstars or that it creates better cohesion or team unity you’re greatly mistaken. Posting stats never stopped Pat Haden from being great and winning a title. It never stopped Eric Bienemy from being one of the greatest backs of all time. And it never stopped Amat from winning its five CIF titles. All those teams called in stats to the paper on a regular basis. And if stats weren’t important to Bishop Amat’s great history, then why do they share their statistical history on its website, but do not show its current players. This is the first year it has not posted a roster either on a school website or Maxpreps. Even last year, the regularly posted stats. If this is a position they’ve taken, it’s an awful one for fans who follow the school.

  • AMAT 73

    Fred ,
I see you got your program on Friday night . Why didn’t you list the junior high school of the players also . It’s part of the stats on each player .Maybe inquisitive minds would like to know that also . Even you hid it by making the blogger have to click on the thread to see it . So you are just as guilty as the next . HA HA HA HA .

  • Amat Grad & Dad

I understand that that mentioning Amat in any context gets hits on your site and that your job.

I never mentioned winning or losing…
I was talking about the dynamic of the team as a whole.

Again, we just don’t agree on this one…

Good luck to all SGV teams this week, play safe.

AMAT LANCERS- Go out there and SHINE! The Amat Family is behind you 100%

Now I need to get back to my job…

I don’t have a problem with teams posting rosters..But when it comes to stats! It should be optional, Every head coach should be entitled & in position to share if he sees fit..

Some of the top programs in the Southern California Football aren’t posting stats..Why do you think that is? This has nothing to do with recruiting or tradition!!

I absolutely believe it has to do with the respect & integrity of the game & morally doing what’s right for the team..The last thing you need is for players to start comparing stats & becoming envious of one another & not performing as a team..

This could be a sign of the times that Bishop Amat is turning a new leaf & heading in a new direction..It was also evident in their play calling last friday that this team no longer wants to be considered a one dimensional offense (run first) like in previous seasons..

Hats off to the Coaching Staff who realized that the old ways are simply that(OLD)..Hey! why not try something new? Since Haggerty has been here they have been posting stats..How far has that gotten them?..It’s time for change!..& if it doesn’t work well at least they wont live with the regrets that they never tried something new..

  • Lancelot

First, I see nothing wrong with posting Stats or Rosters. The fact that it is not done this year probably means they haven’t gotten a spotter or parent volunteer that has had the time to undetake the task yet. I really don’t think it ties into some master plan of coach Hagerty’s to “stay under the radar”? C’mon guys, do you hear yourselves or re-read your own posts?
Second, Amat has always posted this information and they have certainly posted Baseball rosters AND Stats for several years. I for one like to see the Stats just in case I can’t make it to a game. No need for 007 conspiracy theories. Get a parent volunteer and make it happen. There has to be a volunteer within the program that will take the challenge/duty. There always has been, right?

  • Amat Grad & Dad

Varsity roster is on MaxPreps. I never thought it was part of a “master plan”, I do however believe it’s the school’s call on when they put out their roster. Stats you won’t convince me on…I agree with 12th man.

No Master Plan or Conspiracy!! I could care less!!..Why not let the season play out & let the chips fall where they may!..If Coaches don’t want to post..well! so be it!..I’m not going to lose sleep over it..& if the Newspapers want to push for it just to generate more hits on their blogs..More power to them!

  • Fred Robledo

Yes, Amat’s roster is now on Maxpreps, hopefully stats will follow soon ..

I wish Amat Grad and 12th man were in our position, imagine if everyone didn’t post stats, how would you share how athletes are doing? How would you put together all-area teams? I can’t believe you think that way in 2012 when everyone we do is transparent. At the end of the day, it’s just stats, every other team in Amat history lived through it, so could this team.

  • fb102

The ONLY stat that REALLY matters is the one on the scoreboard at the END of the game. Wins/losses are what matters.

Rosters AND game/season stats can be found in the game programs sold at every game.

Lancelot has the situation nailed on Amat’s stats. Volunteer is needed to enter the stats. It’s THAT simple.

  • 12th man

You are missing the big picture!! If you don’t find stats on a team it’s by no mistake!! You’re telling me Servite who was ranked Nationally & pretty much #1 all season last year couldn’t find one person! That’s right! O-N-E person to put up stats during the season..As one of the top schools in the Nation I find that a little far fetched!! That means they cant find a single person this year either because I can’t seem to find any stats anywhere lol.

Bottom line is somewhere, somehow stats always seem to emerge at the end of the season..Who cares if Maxpreps doesn’t post it we all knew what Cody Pittman,Butch Pauu,& Etiaki, were doing all season..did you need stats then?

I’m also not buying the fact that if it weren’t for Maxpreps you wouldn’t be able to find an all-area team..That’s a joke! How did you guys over at the Tribune find an all-area team during the 70′s-80′s- & 90′s??

Was it by word of mouth? Reading the Saturday paper? End of the season stats? Phone call from coach? Look I’m not here to debate weather it’s right or wrong.. Every team has their reasons..I was merely trying to give the not so-informed football fan some insight & logical explanations on why some teams don’t post!

In Bishop’s case? Who knows if they truly can’t find a volunteer or if maybe Coach is trying not to focus this year on stats rather then just playing the game..At the end of the day I believe fb102 said it best..”The only STAT that matters is the SCOREBOARD!!!

  • Fred Robledo

I’m glad you mentioned the 70s, 80s and 90s, that’s when coaches religiously called in stats to phone clerks on Monday or faxed them to our desk so we could compile a leaders scoreboard. It was also a great way to touch base verbally with coaches. Coaches were much better about it then and we regularly had more leader stats of all the major sports than we have today. Back then coaches faxed in schedules and rosters which certainly compared to today, was even more work. We’re in the internet era where you think it would be much easier for all of us, but it’s not. Nobody faxes or calls in results or emails rosters. We’re at the mercy of schools to post on either Maxpreps or a school website, that’s just how it works today.
