Bishop Amat, Charter Oak showdown set for next week … Can the coaches please agree to overtime … like right now?

Charter Oak wins: Not only did the Chargers have a better reserve running back in Aaren Vaughns, they played tremendous defense on their way to a 22-14 victory over the Griffins at Veterans Stadium.

Bishop Amat wins: La Mirada gave Bishop Amat a much better fight than it did last season, but Lancers quarterback Koa Haynes made big play after big play, especially in the second half, to help the Lancers escape with a 34-24 victory over the CIF-Southern Section Southeast Division’s top-ranked Matadores on Friday.

Kings of Cameron: West Covina put the clamps on South Hills and its bulldozing quarterback Adam Goss in the second half, then used two fourth-quarter touchdowns by running back Aaron Salgado to break a 7-7 halftime tie for a 21-7 win on Friday night at Covina District Field.

Bishop Amat 34, La Mirada 24 — Amat needed to score the final 10 points to fend off the stubborn Matadores, who look like the best team in the Southeast Division. Amat’s offense looks great, defense still a work in progress.
San Dimas 56, San Gabriel 14 — Saints looking like that 2008 team that mopped everyone in the preseason.
Azusa 14, Maranatha 13 –– Aztecs needed a win in the worst way after last week’s humble pie from San Dimas.
Gladstone 35, Baldwin Park 19 — If you don’t feel good for Albert Sanchez and the Gladiators, you don’t like football.
Tesoro 24, Chino Hills 14 — Say this about the Huskies, they gave a good account of themselves against Pac-5 teams the past two weeks, tying Amat and playing Tesoro close.
Glendora 47, Colony 29 – Sometimes we forget that the Tartans are one of the San Gabriel Valley’s big-boy teams. After all, they do play in the Baseline.
La Puente 35, Arroyo 20 — Thought it was a toss-up game going in, and not surprised at all that the Warriors pulled it out.
Charter Oak 22, Los Alamitos 14 – As close to a step-up win as the Chargers have had in a while. Aaren Vaughns was huge, carrying the Chargers into next week’s mega showdown against Amat.
Sierra Vista 42, Mountain View 28 — The Dons’ offense finally showed up and not against just anyone, beating the previously unbeaten Vikings.
West Covina 21, South Hills 7 — Even wounded, the Bulldogs are still the Kings of Cameron. But will they heal in time in hopes of becoming the first SGV team since the 70s Temple City Rams to win three straight CIF titles.
Los Altos 49, Wilson 0 — The shoe fits Los Altos again, off to another impressive 3-0 start. You have to ask, are the Conquerors the Hacienda League favorites?
Ayala 56, Cheyenne 32 — The Bulldogs already matched last year’s win total and have done it impressively, scoring tons of points.
La Serna 27, Bonita 20 — Is it time to worry about the ‘Cats? I know they’re 0-3, but two of them were winnable.
Damien 42, Palm Desert 14 — They didn’t just need a win, they needed a convincing win and got it. Now, let’s see what they do from here.
Diamond Bar 51, Don Lugo 13 — The Brahmas get in the win column after stinking it up the first two weeks.
Salesian 46, Workman 6 — This didn’t add up on paper so the final score is what you thought it would be.
Rowland 27, Northview 24 — Look out, the Raiders are 3-0. I keep telling everyone, coach Craig Snyder is one of the best in the SGV.
South Torrance 33, Rosemead 27 They’ve been to Orange County and the South Bay and haven’t fared well. They’ll do much better back in the SGV.
Ontario 33, Nogales 21 — The Nobles have been in some dogfights, that’s all you can ask.
Montebello 13, South El Monte 8 — From what I hear it could have gone either way. The Eagles are a dangerous Mission Valley contender.
Claremont 27, Walnut 10 — The Wolfpack needed to show they were Sierra League worthy after a couple stinkers.
Pomona 34, Bloomington 14 — Good win for the Red Devils.
