We’ve got another big night planned with Mike The Cousin and Aram Tolegian both at the District Field for tonight’s West Covina-South Hills showdown. Aram will tweet and Mike the Cousin will give it to you on ScribbleLive, plus we’ll have updates from other places. I’ll head South for Bishop Amat at La Mirada and tweet updates to ScribbleLive. Steve Ramirez is tweeting San Gabriel at San Dimas, Reginald Miller is tweeting Maranatha at Azusa and Tom Kiss, the Inland Insider, is at another big one, Tesoro at Chino Hills, where Tom will tweet and provide postgame highlights and reactions. You, our readers, can also tweet live updates using the #sgvfootball hashtag. We’re all in this together. Remember in this political season, ask not what your local blog can do for you, but what you can do for your local blog :) And as always, we’ll return here at 11 p.m., for the TribXtra postgame show with Aram.

La Mirada has something to prove: After losses to St. Paul and La Habra last year, La Mirada coach Mike Moschetti had this to say after losing to Bishop Amat….“We just got overwhelmed. Those two teams (St. Paul and La Habra) aren’t Bishop Amat. It’s not even close.”

Mid-Valley Rematch, San Gabriel at San DimasOne of the biggest pendulum swings in the area in terms of a game results came last season when San Gabriel High School knocked San Dimas out of the Mid-Valley Division football playoffs and punched its ticket to the championship game with a 29-28 win.

Lets go Amat!!! let’s get that victory.

  • LA Conq

What a great night of SGV Football!

Freddy…who do you have covering the Wilson v. LA game?

  • Fred Robledo

LA Conq, you’re well taken care of, Richard Hernandez…

  • LA Conq

For the record…I think this game is going to be a heck of a lot closer than people think! My prediction:

    LA – 31
    Wilson – 21

  • Fred Robledo

This could be the first time the Tribune doesn’t have a CIF football champion in years….La Mirada is the odds on favorite in the Southeast, Paraclete could win the Mid-Valley and none of our locals are winning the Inland or Pac-5. I would have to look back, but when is the last time the last year Tribune teams were left without a CIF champion?…I believe 2007 when South Hills and Charter Oak both lost in the semifinals.

    Fred,

Don’t need you polluting my mind with thoughts like that.

I still have West Covina in the Southeast. But they have to get healthy … just like last season. Once Josh Best is back and Najera is under center, they will get real good, real fast.

I still have Monrovia in the Mid-Valley. I know Sierra Canyon and Paraclete are gonna be real tough, but once the ‘Cats get their heads on straight, they’ll be fine.

In the Inland, I think our Sierra League champ goes to the semis. After that, I offer no predix.

And I think with the right draw, Amat is going to the semis in the PAC-5. But the right draw ties into winning the Serra. Can they do that? I dunno because I don’t know the competition that well. I just worry Alemany is on another level and that game is on the road this year.

Big game for Amat!! The jury is still out on them!..This game will determine exactly where Amat stands in the pac5 & just how far they will get in the Serra..I don’t care how good La Mirada is playing..They are still a Southeast team & they have no business beating any pac5 team “Unless” you’re a bottom feeder in the pac5..

Both teams have speed! But I would still give the edge to Amat..Look! In order to convince me that Amat is going to have a good run this year..They have to start winning in convincing fashion like they did against Servite..The defense needs to step up tonight & make a statement!!

Oh! Almost forgot!! Keep an eye on #25 Johnny Hills from LM this kid has crazy numbers in rushing!! “So much for keeping all your play makers under the radar” ..Right Freddie? Thanks to Maxpreps “STATS” Amat should know exactly who to focus on..It also tells me that the LM QB has a high percentage in completing passes 17 of 24 but his longest is 58yds..This means he’s throwing mainly under the coverage mostly short passes..#2 D.Shipp(WR) & #9 T.Luatua (WR) make up for more than 90% of their pass plays..Cover those two guys & you should be ok!! Wow!! All this information just on stats..Imagine if I were a real coach? lol…Just Say”N”..KEEP POSTING PLEASE!!!

Oh yee of little faith Fred, it’s only week two, we’ll know more after tonight. If La Mirada wins or plays within a few points of Amat then your worries may be validated. Lets also see how West Co fares against South Hills. Also remember that West Co has not only been without their starting QB but they have had only 1 or two returning starters on offense, usually I would say that is a bad situation but in WC’s case it may be different due to the amout of talent they have on the team, it’s just a matter of if these kids can step up and develope, especially on the O-line. If so they should get a lot better as the season progresses.

    Fred,
Just so you know! Alemany,Notre Dame,& Crespi,All from the Serra League aren’t posting stats either!! So don’t tell me there’s no “Advantage”…Wait!! I suppose they couldn’t find a volunteer either? Just a coincidence? Think Not!!

There’s no draw that would help Amat get to the semis. No way, no how, not happening.
