Tribskin Pick’em: Your picks and ours; One of the best weeks of the season and Robledo pulling away against Tolegian

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season for our annual dinner bet.

Last Week: Robledo (17-8); Tolegian (50-21).
Season: Tolegian (12-13); Tolegian (42-29).

Last Week: For the first time in the history of Tribskin Pick’em, one of us had a sub .500 week and it wasn’t me. After going 0-for-3 on Thursday night, Aram didn’t fare much better on Friday, losing 10 more games and too many to mention. I fared better, but still lost eight games to take an unprecedented eight-game lead just three weeks into the football season. It can’t be that easy, can it?

This week:: The best non-league football week of the high school season with lots of tough games to choose from. Bishop Amat or Charter Oak? We’ve wondered that for years and I’ve argued in most years I’m taking Amat and this is one of them. Both teams are playing great and deserve the 1 and 2 rankings when the Trib poll comes out tomorrow. But it comes down to this: Charter Oak is arguably a tad better on defense, but Amat’s offense has proved to be better against a tougher schedule so far. I don’t think Amat will score more than 30, but I also don’t think Charter Oak will score more than 17. If I were setting a betting line, I would make Amat a 4-point favorite, something like a 21-17 point victory is what I’m predicting. Sure, I like Amat to win, but won’t be surprised at all if Charter Oak gets them. After all, you never know what role emotion plays in these games, and this will be one of the most emotionally-charged of the season. West Covina-Chino Hills? No way I’m taking the Bulldogs. I just don’t see how they stack up after how Chino Hills has fared the past two weeks against the Pac-5, and especially with Justin Hornsby out for the Bulldogs to go with QB Najera. Let’s hope the Bulldogs are ready for the Hacienda. Monrovia-San Dimas? Nobody in the Mid-Valley has played Monrovia better in the last three years than the Saints. For whatever reason, Monrovia has more athletes, but the Saints have an offense they have a hard time dealing with. I like the Saints and I like them by more than a touchdown. Gladstone-El Monte? One of those I-wish-I-could-be-there games. Two of the best quarterbacks in the Division going head to head. Gladstone’s defense is the key, but I will like El Monte’s offense to win out. Glendora-Ayala? A huge battle of the unbeatens. Nobody has stopped Glendora’s ground game, averaging somewhere near 250 yards in two games. As great as Ayala has been, Glendora’s a big-boy program and I’m feeling them. Ayala is definitely the favorite, but I’m calling the upset, take Glendora.

Fred, I absolutely love it when you pick against the Chargers. It’s time for Amat to get knocked off their perch. There is not a more arrogant coach or program in the Valley…and please don’t tell me they deserve any type of ranking based on what league their in or what they did years and years ago.

  • 12th man

Charter Oak has a solid “D”…but they have yet to be tested by a “Good” offense who can run or pass..Add those elements plus a dual QB who’s not afraid to tuck it & run..& you mite just see Amat score more than 24 points…

Charter Oak will have to mix it up…They will not beat Amat by simply running the ball..Amat can contain you for the majority of the game especially if your offense becomes predictable & starts running the ball on 1st & 2nd & then passing on 3rd..

    Turnovers & Special teams
    will be the determining factor..

    Final Score:
    Either way~
    31-24

  • Fred Robledo

BillyBob, I know I’m the easy target, but Aram has Amat ranked No. 1 in his poll and any Southern California or computer poll would have Amat ranked ahead of Charter Oak too. But it doesn’t matter, they’ll play on Friday and settle it, but please, what am I supposed to do, rank Amat No. 2 after beating Servite, tying Chino Hills and beating La Mirada? That’s in 2012 Billy, not years ago.

  • AZTEC PRIDE

Alright Fred, YOU HAVE CHOOSEN WISELY!!! AZUSA THEIR IT IS… Fred has you winning and last year AZUSA lost all three preseason games and if you win this week, well two out of three won’t be so bad! Also Fred I did a little homework and Cal Preps has AZUSA winning Don Lugo also, but guess what they have Gladstone winning the AZTECS THIS YEAR!!!

    Alright Scherf get’em ready!!!

    AZTEC PRIDE!

  • Mean Green Pastures….AKA Humbled Cat

After cleaning my colon, of summer hype, Monrovia looked a little better against Arcadia. However, the Apaches are really down this year. They will go 2-8. So This is quality win we need. Maybe this gets us back into the top ten. We are the undercats, and ranked below San Dimas…So I will say this is a upset. Fred has San Dimas, I am thinking Aram will go Mtown. San Dimas has proven this year they are ready to fight for a title. They have outscored their opposition 150-50 or so. This is a great rivalry. I look forward to seeing the new field over there. I know Saints4real, is somewhere around here.

  • AZTEC PRIDE

WOW! If you follow SGV HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL this is a GREAT WEEK of football! Alot of great games, but the best one has to be AMAT-CO for the SGV CUP!

San Dimas vs Monrovia should be a battle and the Wesco and Chino Hills should also be a good one! Can’t wait to read Freds Blog come Saturday Morning! Should be good!

    WHERE’S COCHARGER AT??? LOL..

  • Lancer Blue

Has anyone at Bishop Amat noticed that we’re giving up 30 points per game???

Our Defense will be our down fall this year. Why aren’t we more on Hagerty’ a$$ and on his DC???

What about all the injuries??? Is Blue going to play this week??? What about AJ and DA??? I can’t see how we can win without them. How are they gonna cover Bobo???

I think we’re giving Servite and Chino Hills way too much credit. I think at the end of the day, Servite will have a very disappointing season and CHHS will be a 2nd or 3rd place Sierra team.

    Just Sayin’

  • Coach Verti

Just to keep Fred, and all of Bishop Amat fans, in perspective have you noticed that Bishop Amat is still ranked #18 out of 32 teams in PAC 5?

And did you notice who’s keeping Servite some company? Can we all say Long Beach Jordan? How about Compton? Wow…not exactly PAC 5 powerhouses! Are they?

    To Lancer Blue:

You are not an Amat fan, alum, nor friend. It’s funny that you come on here and disguise yorself by calling yourself Lancer Blue. Have the jewels to say who you really are. Amat has shown holes in the defense, and the DC does have to shore up those holes. But that’s what this tougher nonleague schedule is giving Amat, a true gauge of their strengths and weaknesses. Charter Oak is a very good team, and this Friday will be a solid test for the Lancers. The game can go either way, but I see Amat winning by a touchdown.

  • WHERE’S EVERYBODY AT

Where’s everbody at! Couple of years ago this blog would have been BLOWING UP if AMAT and CO would have been playing. The only one from CO is SGV FOOTBALL, and a couple of AMAT Fans! Come on all that complaining about not playing each other and now it’s finally here and all here is cricket, cricket, cricket! No Monrovia fans after all that talk summer long. Where’s SD MOM, SAINTS4REAL? OBSERVECAT? WESCO FANS? and all those idiots from chino? Oldman Chino, Sierra League Fan… HAVE SOME BA*%S and don’t be scared because the BLOG is becomming a GHOST TOWN!

Did you notice all the Saturday post, what 40 something hits? Come on SOUTH HILLS HUSKIES, suck it up! You get the point!

  • Fred Robledo

I’ll tell you why it’s quiet, when it was a game we talked about that bloggers knew would never be played, each side talked it up without the worry of eating crow. Now that it’s here, blogger fans are being extremely careful, waiting for Friday night to either flex their typing muscles or hide depending on who wins. That’s what typical fan reaction is, but there is no doubt that on Friday you will see a packed house and an electrical atmosphere.

  • D-Mo

Damn, already feeling butterflies in the gut. This is the game CO and BA fans have been waiting for.
Funny, Aram picks against CO last week vs Los Al, and picks CO this week vs BA. WTH?
12th man has it correct, but I think CO is up for the challenge and will open the play book and turn a page or 2. I know Amat won’t play an all vanilla game.
This going to be one slow ass week waiting for Friday.

  • SGV FOOTBALL

    WHERE’S EVERYBODY AT,

I’m here, relax Fred just posted this today! Now we have a sgv football blogger and he’s a lancer???? I just dont get this blogger… Your done kid, pick a new moniker.

I remember 1-1/2 years ago when no one thought this game was going to happen, everybody was talking smack. CO this Amat that, 100+ blog hits no problem but like how Fred said people are being more careful and IMO have learned from the mistakes of the Monrovia bloggers.

This Friday will change the dynamics in the SGV! There will no LONGER be a reigning champ.

The SGV knows that there are only two teams in the SGV that have seperated themselves from the rest CO & Amat.

Big Lou and Dom haven’t even got to the second page of the playbook! Amat let it all hang out there against Chino Hills, ever play in the book was tried to get that W unfortunately it only resulted in a tie…

Get there early, this game will bring alot of past players and famlies. Not including all the other SGV fans that are ditching their kids games to watch this blockbuster! Just kidding…

    Ceee-OHHHH!!!!

    Yo where’s beep beep Dan???

  • OldMan in Chino

It appears that I have been called out and am being asked to make a prediction on the results of the Amat/Charter Oak game. I am of the belief that Amat will win the game by a touchdown or less. Amat has historically taken on all comers and never shied away from tough competition and given that their success has been gained against top level teams I feel fairly confident that they will win on Friday. Charter Oak has been in the Sierra League three seasons and dethroned Chino Hills last season. They have yet to show that they are a dominant team this season. Look at who they have played thus far and compare that to the teams that Chino Hills and Amat have played. The true test of how good they are will be settled on Oct. 5th when they open league play against Chino Hills.

  • Hank Hyperbole

The game that Amat fans have been waiting for? PahLease! This is a no win situation for Amat just like always…..This c.o. team is all hype. They are no where as good as past teams and Amat is in the same boat but expectations for Amat never waiver, you are the Best in the SGV and you are EXPECTED to beat the locals. The ONLY way this is extraordinary is IF c.o. beats Amat. When Amat wins it’s…well they should have they are in the Pac 5. No need for fans to come on here and sling the mud because the big anticipation of FINALLY getting to beat Amat is here BUT don’t wanna say to much just in case it doesn’t happen right???? c.o. blogger has been spouting crap for the last three years yet only one yahoo is on the blog as of late? What’s the story c.o…. you know, right (stupidest charger nation chant at it’s finest)…..I for one would like to see a little of all that past three year shit talking that we have had to endure, just to make it interesting. c.o. you know!
    c.o. you know!!!
And for the record, October 5th, Chino Hills DESTROYS charter oak!!!!!

  • WOW

Friday around 9:45 PM Will it be Bishop No-Mas or Ceeee-Noooo???

  • Club Haterade

Club Haterade is officially open for the week!
CEO – Aram T has made his get me some hits for the week pick of charter choke over Amat (he’s gotta do something to try and get hits away from Fred’s Blog during Football season). Fred owns the Blogs for football season!!!
In the huddle is where you go when you want to go completely over board with a response or when you can’t blog on Freds board because you were “Blocked” Ha,Ha,Ha….
That’s why Aram is getting his Hat handed to him in the picks, he has to pick against Fred to generate some controversy on his site. Culver City over Amat next week too Big Boy? Ha,Ha,Ha…

  • Joe Amat

Only someone who is as ignorant as NonSense (who also is Lancer Blue, and Coach Verti) would take a lost of records and try to pass them off as rankings)
Rankings are based on who you play, who you beat, AND who they play and who they beat.. That’s the only way to compare with unequal schedules.

As I’ve said at the beginning of every season of this blogs existence, Amat doesn’t schedule games where somehow the opponent can’t beat them. Obviously, this year is no different . The Lancers have to come to play – as I expect CO to.

If both teams come with their A game, I’d have to go with recent results. There is no reason to think that things will be any different than they have been the past decade vs the SGV – and that has resulted in only 1 loss in 25+ games. Of course, there has been that one loss, so it could happen – just unlikely.

The last series vs the Chargers they faced the Lancers as the preseason #1 with highly regarded D1 commit, Will Harris, and Amat came home with the win.no reason to think that won’t be the result again.

  • where’s everybody at

YO… SGV FOOTBALL, you told me to relax and look it worked! OLD MAN CHINO came out to play and is stating they’re are going to win CEE-OOO this season. Arma & Fred
Wow, 21 games and the two you disagree on 10 of those games. Could be a breakout week for someone.

  • sgv baby

WoW some good games out there this Friday. It will be a toss up. What game will I attend? Amat vs CeeeOOOOHHH the BATTLE OF THE FISHBOWL, Monrovia vs SD LAST CIF CHAMPS or Glendora vs Ayala?????
Haven’t seen SD, CO or Glendora. These teams are playing some football. Ayala/Glendora game should put up big rushing numbers w/both teams having good RB’s. Ayala is undefeated I still don’t think they make the playoffs. Ayala in a tuff league. Hope you guys prove me wrong. I attended Ayala/Monrovia game and was not impressed with Monrovia. Is it a typical slow start for the Wildcats and another CIF Championship run at the end? G5 where you at all the hype and what? Hope you wake up for SD. CO vs BA wow can’t wait for Saturday morning BLOGS!!! Who knows maybe I go to the EM vs Gladstone. Both teams with QB’s that can BALL. Both teams have something good going. Will they be League Champs in their respective leagues? GOOD LUCK TEAMS

  • Football jones

CO is having a good year but I don’t see them on same footing with BA.

    BA by 21.
