And Still King of the Valley … Bishop Amat races to a big lead and holds on to beat Charter Oak, 30-14 in front of massive crowd; Gladstone beats El Monte 68-66 in 3 OT; Monrovia and Chino Hills make statements too

Amat’s Koa Haynes throws for 174 yards and two touchdowns in the emotionally-charged 30-14 win that included ejections on both sides.

Another defining Amat victory: Bishop Amat reminded everyone Friday why it’s still King of the Valley and proved not much has changed since its back-to-back blowout victories over Charter Oak in 2004 and ’05.
In the first meeting since then and in one of the most anticipated and hyped-up games in years, Amat raced to a 23-point first-half lead and got the defensive stops it needed in the second half to come away with a 30-14 victory in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Charter Oak.

Monrovia pounds red-hot San Dimas: After a back-and-forth first half, Monrovia (2-1) pulled away, outscoring San Dimas 23-7 to close the game for a 35-23 nonleague victory.

Not a misprint, Gladstone in Triple OT: Gladstone High School came from two touchdowns behind in the fourth quarter and went on to beat El Monte 68-66 in three overtimes Friday night.

Ayala wins battle of unbeatens: Ayala High School stayed unbeaten with a 38-28 nonleague victory over visiting Glendora on Friday.

Chino Hills destroys injured West Covina: Chino Hills forced five turnovers, including two interception returns for touchdowns, to cruise to a 46-14 nonleague victory over West Covina on Friday night.
