And Still King of the Valley … Bishop Amat races to a big lead and holds on to beat Charter Oak, 30-14 in front of massive crowd; Gladstone beats El Monte 68-66 in 3 OT; Monrovia and Chino Hills make statements too

Amat’s Koa Haynes throws for 174 yards and two touchdowns in the emotionally-charged 30-14 win that included ejections on both sides.

Another defining Amat victory: Bishop Amat reminded everyone Friday why it’s still King of the Valley and proved not much has changed since its back-to-back blowout victories over Charter Oak in 2004 and ’05.
In the first meeting since then and in one of the most anticipated and hyped-up games in years, Amat raced to a 23-point first-half lead and got the defensive stops it needed in the second half to come away with a 30-14 victory in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Charter Oak.

Monrovia pounds red-hot San Dimas: After a back-and-forth first half, Monrovia (2-1) pulled away, outscoring San Dimas 23-7 to close the game for a 35-23 nonleague victory.

Not a misprint, Gladstone in Triple OT: Gladstone High School came from two touchdowns behind in the fourth quarter and went on to beat El Monte 68-66 in three overtimes Friday night.

Ayala wins battle of unbeatens: Ayala High School stayed unbeaten with a 38-28 nonleague victory over visiting Glendora on Friday.

Chino Hills destroys injured West Covina: Chino Hills forced five turnovers, including two interception returns for touchdowns, to cruise to a 46-14 nonleague victory over West Covina on Friday night.

    CO!!

  • AyalaBulldogFan

Definitely add a poll for the other games of interest. Contrary to popular belief, CO/Amat are not the only teams around and I personally could really give a rats you know what about Amat.

  • Fred Robledo

Ayala we’re not forgetting you and Glendora, but for this newspaper, having these two traditional schools go at it is huge…It’s only the fourth time they’ve met in history.

  • Don

    The Big Three + 1

Bishop Amat at Charter Oak: Too few guys trying to do to much at C O, Amat by two TD’s.
Monrovia at San Dimas: I still believe Monrovia has something to prove, Cats over the Saints by 10
Chino Hills at West Covina: Too many guys hurt in Bulldogville, Chino Hills by 14
Glendora at Ayala: I warned you guys not to blow these two teams off almost a month ago, Ayala by 7

  • Great Article Aram

Great article by Aram in the Whittier Daily news on BA QB Koa Haynes and CO’s QB Doanvin.

We have no thread for smack talk regarding Monrovia vs San Dimas.

So…I am going to poop here.

Monrovia is going to kick San Dimas @$$.

    Green Pride!!!

  • 12th man

With all the talk about Charter Oak’s Defense & Amat’s high powered Offense!! Oh! & there’s the talk about Blue,Koa,Andrews,Bobo,Vaughns, & then you have Aram saying that it’s going to be a field management game..Which will be a factor in part of the game but not the whole equation..The Fact of the Matter is…This game is riding on the Shoulders of the Charter Oak “Quarterbacks”..If they can’t produce.. It’s checkmate!!Game Over~..They have yet to be tested under pressure & under the big lights & crowd…Will they rise to the occasion? Or will they fold like a cheap tent?…In recent years the QB the captain of the ship has played key role in a team’s performance & outcome of the game..This Friday will be no different..Koa already has an advantage by playing in a few big games last season & playing like a man possessed vs Servite..I just don’t see Charter Oak winning unless the QB can pass for over 270yds & run for another 70..Hey! But who knows? I’ve seen stranger things happen on “Friday Night Lights”
One thing is for sure!! This game will be settled once & for all tomorrow night on the field!! & not here with all us bloggers on Fred Robledo’s prep sports thread!!

  • Fred Robledo

Anyone know the answer to this question … Bishop Amat record book says it owns a 2-1 series edge over Charter Oak. I know Amat won in 2004 and ’05, but anyone know when Charter Oak beat Amat? …Joe Amat, anyone?

  • 12th man

Charter Oak vs Los Alamitos!!! Here’s the game..You be the judge & just how strong Charter Oak is???

Amat much better than the pundits of this silly blog know. Among those of us that really know how to look at high school ball this is not even close. Amat will lead by 20 at the half and put it cruise control in the 2nd. There is no discussion on this one. Los Alimitos is a shell of there former selves.

Talk about tough games in the Serra League in week 3!!!

Is it not the same for Amat?

  • C3PO

rdgehueyg27353719. – actually…no. Bishop Amat is still a yearly PAC 5 playoff team and…well, Los Alamitos has been dropped from the PAC 5 altogether. So no. Not the same at all.

  • Perspective

This is a much bigger game for CO than it is for Amat… I mean, seriously… CO just does not play teams as good as Amat does year in and year out. CO could not compete in even the league play that Amat competes with year in and year out. CO does not play in the huge games that Amat gets to play in year in and year out. This is a great game for local sports, and if CO can pull it off then more power to them. They’ll be talking about it for years. In contrast, a win for Amat over CO is not much to talk about.

  • one game at a time

Amat Frosh 28 CO Frosh 0.

It was a hellish 104 degrees. But the real boys in blue gelled and put on a great show.

It was all Amat, the score would have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for some dropped passes by Amat’s receivers. Amat’s offensive line are huge, but could use a little better QB protection, the QB has a nice arm and found it’s targets for 3 TD passes, solid running back #5 and great receiver #11. Also TE #81 is big and can block and catch. This team will be the team to watch in the near future if it stays healthy and together.

BTW….where are all the CO bloggers, kind of quiet in here?

  • So Sad

    @CP3O
And yet the Sunset League had a better playoff record over the past 6 years then that of the Serra League. Truth be told, the Serra has the worst Playoff record in the Pac-5 over the last 6 years. The Serra League is the most overrated league in the history of California Prep Football. All hype until the Serra’s best has to play the rest of the Pac-5′s best.

  • Perspective

So Sad, you said it right, Amat is playing the best. The Serra league competes with the best. The Pac 5 is, well, the best. Sunset League- really? Make an argument for Los Al, maybe, but not the Sunset League. C’mon.

  • 12th man

    This should end the debate!!

Here’s a list from 2010!! Only two years ago!! Top 10 leagues in the Nation!! Now wonder Amat gets so much attention being in a league thats ranked #9 in the Nation!! You really can’t say to much about the rest of the leagues in the SGV

Top 10 Toughest Leagues in America

    1. Greater Catholic South (Ohio)
Archbishop Moeller, 5-0, 3 in state, 18 nationally; LaSalle, 5-0, 14 in state, 167 nationally; St. Xavier, 3-2, 7 in state, 46 nationally; Elder, 20 in state, 241 nationally.

    2. Trinity (California)
Servite, 4-0, 2nd in state, 7 nationally; JSerra Catholic, 3-0, 79 in state, 725 nationally; St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 3-1, 16 in state, 139 nationally; Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), 3-1, 48 in state, 419 nationally; Orange Lutheran, 2-2, 114 in state, 1,242 nationally; Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 1-2, 24 in state, 227 nationally. Long time powerhouse Mater Dei is at the bottom looking up this year, attesting to the overall depth and power in this league. No team in the league ranks lower than 114 in the state of California, which has close to 1,200 teams, meaning all six teams are in the top 10 percent of the state.

    3. 5A Region 1 District 8 (Texas)
Allen (Texas), 4-0, 8 in state, 78 nationally; Marcus (Flower Mound, Texas), 4-0, 16 in state, 118 nationally; Lewisville (Texas), 3-1, 91 in state, 853 nationally; Hebron (Carrollton, Texas), 3-1, 14 in state, 113 nationally; Plano West (Texas), 3-1, 43 in state, 389 nationally; Plano (Texas), 3-1, 114 in state, 1,056 nationally; Plano East (Texas), 2-2, 133 in state, 1,190 nationally; Flower Mound (Texas), 2-2, 84 in state, 774 nationally. The depth in this league is amazing all eight teams have at least a .500 record. Three of the teams are also ranked in the top 16 in the state of Texas, a tremendous feat in a state known for its football.

    4. South Coast (California)
Mission Viejo (Calif.), 4-0, 5th in state, 12 nationally; San Clemente (Calif.), 4-1, 49 in state, 425 nationally; Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), 3-1, 42 in state, 379 nationally; Dana Hills (Dana Point, Calif.), 2-2, 76 in state, 696 nationally; Trabuco Hills (Mission Viejo, Calif.), 2-2, 191 in state, 2,262 nationally. Orange County football is pretty impressive, considering that two of the top four leagues on this list consist of Orange County teams. This year Mission Viejo is ranked in the Xcellent 25 presented by the Army National Guard and rising.

    5. Big North I (New Jersey)
Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), 3-0, 1st in state, 2nd nationally; St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.), 3-0, 3 in state, 142 nationally; Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.), 3-0, 2nd in state, 39 nationally; Paramus Catholic (N.J.), 2-1, 69 in state, 3,104 nationally; DePaul (Wayne, N.J.), 1-2, 64 in state, 2,939 nationally. New Jersey is a strong football state and Don Bosco Prep, Bergen Catholic and St. Joseph Regional rank 1-2-3 in the state. Don Bosco Prep is the defending national champion by MaxPreps and is currently ranked No. 2 in the country.

    6. Catholic Central (Michigan)
Catholic Central (Novi, Mich.), 1 in state, 26 nationally; St. Mary Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.), 5-0, 2 in state, 75 nationally; De La Salle Collegiate (Warren, Mich.), 4-1, 14 in state, 454 nationally; Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), 2-3, 37 in state, 1,237 nationally; University of Detroit Jesuit (Mich.), 2-3, 73 in state, 2,303 nationally. The top two teams in Michigan find a home in the Catholic Central. Even the last place team in the league is in the top 75.

    7. MIAA A (Maryland)
Calvert Hall (Baltimore), 5-0, 6 in state, 264 nationally; Gilman (Baltimore), 4-1, 1st in state, 15 nationally; McDonogh (Owings Mills, Md.), 3-0, 4 in state, 154 nationally; Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore), 3-1, 26 in state, 1,656 nationally; Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, Md.), 2-2, 21 in state, 1,525 nationally; Loyola Blakefield (Towson, Md.), 1-3, 67 in state, 4,581 nationally. Three of the top six teams in Maryland are in this league, led by Gilman, which has been among the top 25 in the country all season.

    8. 6A District 7 (Tennessee)
Oakland (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), 6-0, 1st in state, 63 nationally; Smyrna (Tenn.), 5-1, 4 in state, 114 nationally; Blackman (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), 5-1, 12 in state, 317 nationally; Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) 5-1, 17 in state, 407 nationally; Siegel (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), 3-3, 46 in state, 1,471 nationally; LaVergne (Tenn.), 2-4, 104 in state, 3,493 nationally. Four of the top 17 teams in the state of Tennessee reside in this district.

    9. Serra (California)
Alemany (Mission Hills, Calif.), 4-0, 19 state, 158 nationally; Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.), 4-0, 17 state, 151 nationally; Crespi (Encino, Calif.), 3-1, 61 state, 551 nationally; Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), 1-3, 125 state, 1,504 nationally; Loyola (Los Angeles), 1-3, 91 state, 904 nationally. Alemany has come on in the past few years, making this tough league even tougher. Bishop Amat, Crespi, Notre Dame and Loyola all are among the top teams in the Southern Section each year.

    10. 6A District 5 (Kentucky)
Trinity (Louisville, Ky.), 4-2, ranked No. 1 in state, 66 nationally; Ballard (Louisville, Ky.), 4-2, 11 in state, 641 nationally; Seneca (Louisville, Ky.), 4-2, 28 in state, 1,909 nationally; Eastern (Louisville, Ky.), 3-2, 14 in state, 846 nationally. This league benefits from the presence of Trinity, which is the premier program in the state of Kentucky. Four times in the past five years the Shamrocks have finished No. 1 in the state and in the top 50 in the national rankings. Ballard has also routinely finished among the top 25 in the state the past five seasons.

Note: Two leagues ranked by Freeman’s rankings, the Steel Valley in Ohio and the 5A District 14 in Florida, were not included in this list because they have fewer than four teams in the league.

Its game day! Finally. Lets go do this, charter oak! Take it to the house, baby! Its your time! There are not very many times in high school football to have the opportunity to prove on the field that youre tbe big dog, by taking out the big dog. Yes, bishop amat is the big dog in the valley. But, this is your time right now, to take over that spot.
Leave it all on the field.no excuses. No what ifs. No, we shoulda done this or we shoulda done that. YOU WANT IT, GO TAKE IT! Time to put that big defensive wall up, boys! Peace

  • sgv shot caller

Hey charter oak defense, make sure you watch out for bishop amats trick plays in there first few series. They know they are going to need them tonight!!

  • CO Football

    Amat,

Enough talk time to play it. We dont give a sh#t who you have to play every year you have to play us tonight. You better strap it up because we are bringin it tonight……No excuses when it’s over…….Roll CO…..

Let me get this straight, Chino hills scored 48 points vs. bishop amat, but tesoro held Chino hills to 14 points. Hmm, yes youre right bishop amat fans, amat does have a great defense. Haha! Guess its a good thing amat has been able to score points. Could amat be 0-1-1 vs. the sierra by the end of the night? We’ll see tonight. Or maybe the amat defense has been sandbagging for this game tonight

  • Terrazas takedown

Remember the classic novel TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD? It seems that Eric Terrazas is working on the sequel, called TO KILL A NEWSPAPER (the WDN), by blocking any and all comments for over one month during FOOTBALL SEASON. Despite Robledo’s posting which says comments will now flow, they are still being “held for review by the blog owner”, which means they are discarded upon receipt.

  • Silly CO Fans

It’s really funny to see all the CO fans saying how Amat better be careful because CO is “bringing it” tonight. To see them saying how Amat is only going to have a few possesions, and that they will need trick plays to win tonight. All of that is just a joke right?

I cant wait to watch the Lancers run circles around Charter Choak tonight.

And remember CO fans, just like you guys like to say “NO EXCUSES”. So don’t cry about the refs, or oh we didnt have this guy playing, or oh it just wasn’t our night.

You guys are going to get what you’ve been asking for.

All I can say about the Bishop Amat/Charter Oak game is… One team will be a Pit Bull and the other a Chihuahua! Take youe pick. Best of luck to both teams. I hope there are no serious injuries!

  • Fred Robledo

Terrazas takedown, I just posted a testing comment on Whittier’s blog, everything is fine.

  • Fred Robledo

Some of you are completely underestimating Charter Oak. I have Amat winning too, but no way is it going to be lopsided, Amat’s going to have to win it in the final five minutes. Like I predicted, Amat by 4.

  • sgv shot caller

Hopefully, no phantam catches tonight, huh, bishop amat.

  • Terrazas takedown

Well, Fred, I just tried posting on the Terrazas-controlled blogs and got the familiar “Thank you for commenting…your comment is being held for approval by the blog owner.” This is what EVERYONE in Whittier has been seeing for over a month now, and I can only guess that Eric is letting YOU comment, but nobody else.

So what’s the deal? Is the Whittier blog closed to all except the newspaper writers?

  • sgv shot caller

Hopefully, no phantam catches tonight, huh, bishop amat.

  • 12th man

    Fred,
You mite be right on this one~..I watched charter oak play for the first time on video vs Los Al..What I seen was a solid defense & an above average offense with a few skilled players..What everyone is failing to understand is Charter Oak runs a “No Huddle” offense!!..This could create problems for Amat..The whole purpose of a No Huddle is to keep the game moving & not let your opponent set up right or make the necessary subs..Good thing I watched the video cause I had Amat winning easily..This changes the dynamics of the game & perhaps the final score..Like you said fred by “4″ I’m just not sure which team though?

  • Fred Robledo

12th man, like I’ve said all along, Amat is the area’s best team, but there are teams in the area CAPABLE of beating them. Chino Hills almost did it and Charter Oak has the weapons to do it. Nobody else in the area — at least this season — would even have a punchers chance.

    So glad it’s finally here.

  • Poker Player

sgv – I call your “phantom catch” and raise you drive-extending penalties and missed clipping calls that may have put that game away early!

  • sgv shot caller

Damn! I was just thinking, its going to be an almost impossible task for the charter oak coaches. No, im not talking about tonights game. Im talking about Mondays practice, in trying to get the players focused on glendora in the Thursday night game. Thats a tough task after beating bishop amat tonight

  • Better Game

It’s probably true that there won’t be enough seats to accomodate the over 6,000 fans who want to see this ‘ultimate’ game tonight.

What to do? Steer your car toward Bellflower’s Frank Ribotta Field to see two division one heavyweights play at the highest level. That’s right…Loyola vs. SJB is the hot ticket. And by the way, Mt Sac vs. Cerritos tomorrow night isn’t too shabby either. You can see Former Oaks Christian QB Nick Montana sling the rock for the Mounties.

  • AMAT 73

    shot caller,
CO is no CH by any means . If you are trying to say CO’s qb is equal or better than Simko then you should change your name to shot taker .

    12th Man,
Thanks for the link to the game . You do realize Los Al is deceimated with injuries and much slower than AMAT . Yes CO looked good but against a slow , injured team . By the way for the no huddle to be effective you need to move the ball consistantly which I feel will not happen . You will see a much better defensive effort tonight from the LANCERS . Fred I’d like to see your breakdown football wise as to why you say this game will come down to the last 5 minutes.

  • Story Book Ending

    Just imagine………
Amat vs. Charter Oak, tied into the fourth when starting QB for C.O. cramps up (nothing serious) in comes Ross Bererra at QB for Charter Oak. Drives the bolts down field and throws the game winning TD pass to Ice the game!
    How ya like me now!

  • Gp-aka greenie

I just can’t see CO beating BA tonight. The Only reason I say this is because, Haynes has proven to be a stud QB. I just don’t think CO will stay with their game plan long enough to win. Farrar in Big games vs teams that are better than they are, seem to get lost. Things break down, and Co plays poorly when trailing…I notice that vs Rancho, and Upland games. If they stay score for score like Chino Hills did, they may be able to catch a break, or make a big play with no time left. If they get down by 10…go ahead and start the post game show.

  • Once Upon a Time

Storybook – and then the play gets called back…”Holding on Hauser!”

  • Terrazas takedown

It’s wonderful that the Tribune bloggers are able to spew about tonight’s big game, but what about the Whittier bloggers? Robledo assures us that all is well, but it’s curious how ONLY HIS TEST COMMENTS have gotten through. Is Terrazas biased against moderating a blog? Is there anyone in the WDN employ who can handle this matter?

  • fb102

Amat’s ‘issue’ at CB vs. CH was ‘fixed’ last week. The ‘issue’ was abused repeatedly. Results showed vs. La Mirada last week.

Hauser MAY be about 3 or 4 days short of 365/1 year sit out period.

  • AMAT 73

    FredJ,
Your’s are the only posts on the Whittier blog. Still getting the review message .

  • fb102

  • AMAT 73

    Better game,
You still haven’t said who your team is in that game if you even have a team . If not I totally understand , just another fair weather freddy talking shiat . It may be better to you ( where’s the bad blood between SJB and Loyola ? ) but in the SGV it gets no better than tonights game at CO .

  • Sierra League Fan

    12th Man,
You do realize Chino Hills ran no huddle vs Amat, right. Amat will be used to it….no big surprise.

  • Stop it

New rule, if you talk smack and don’t eat crow afterwards you should be banned from commenting on the blogs! So all you CO fans better give amat props when we handle out buisness tonight! Trust me when we enter the stadium tonight it will be all eyes on the LANCERS ! Bottom line is we are big boys and the whole valley talks smack but when we come thru they bow it down! Kinda like someone who talks over the phone but when u see them they bow it down! That’s what co is gonna do tonight trust!

  • sgv shot caller

Trust me ” stop it” . If you think amat boys are gonna be bigger that the c.o. Boys, Hahaha, you, my friend, are in for a rude awakening. You obviously have not seen charter oak lately….. The big boys of amat, lmfao. You crack me up!!! Comedy hour is here

  • Better Game

@Amat 73: I’m not in bed with Loyola or Bosco, but with a gun to my head, I’d side with the Braves. I assume you’ve noticed that all Trinity schools are making a concerted push to acquire kick-ass football and basketball teams, and in that endeavor, Bosco currently is leading the charge.

With all due respect, Amat simply lacks the resources to compete with the big Trinity schools, as evidenced by the football team’s playoff performance and the basketball team’s mediocre output. Still, I want Amat to roll the Chargers tonight, so you can call me a friend.

  • 12th man

    Sierra league fan,
You don’t think scoring 48 points from a “No Huddle” is Coincidence do you?..

  • sgv shot caller

Now dont get me wrong, I was at the amat/ Servite game. I was very impressed in how crisp amats offense and defense played that night. They looked in midseason form. Also KOA Haynes has been playing lights out. But I was equally disappointed with Servite. They looked awful. With that being said, charter oak seems very confident and no deer on the headlights looks from them. Confidence can take you along way. I also think that charter oak has just as many playmakers on their team as amat has. So its going to come down to playcalls and whoever makes the least mistakes, not by who has better talent. Imo

  • AMAT 73

    better game,
Well why don’t you go ask Servite about the lack of resources to kick ass !!!!!!!!! Unless they have dropped from being a big Trinity school. We are talking football here not basketball and with that said none of your are going to touch MD in bb and if you think you are , your only kidding yourselves .Without a gun to your head who is your team or just a PAC 5 fan ????

  • Stop it

@sgv shot caller , so we’re u impressed with Los al? Or what about rosevelt? Lmao charter oak will not win and when they loose you can be on blogs for a month! Let’s make that deal with Fred as the negotiator . And if you try to create new name with same ip address he will let us know. Also before you leave blogs you have to give amat props and eat crow. I will do the same is amat looses. Put your money where your mouth is I’m tired of people bashing amat for no reason when we win all the time!!

  • sgv shot caller

I thought I was giving amat props in my last comment

  • jcaz

There are many interest side stories to this game and I just wanted to share one with you all.

One of my best friends nephews play’s for Charter Oak. however, last year, he was a prominent player for Amat’s football team.

So he transfers to Charter oak he now faces that task of playing against, both friends and relatives (in a way).

You see, his sister still goes to Amat, and is a Cheerleader for one of the squads !

So my thing is, what is the family going to do come Friday night ? I ask my friend and he tells me that the whole family including the Amat cheerleader is going to sit on Charter oaks sidelines, but what of the rest of the SGV ? Where will they sit ? Who will the family members root for ?

Anyway, that’s just one example of course, but no one here as even bothered to mention the principle of Chater Oak !!

As many of you already know, she attended Amat, but her daughter currently goes to Amat. In addition, her husband actually coaches for one of the many Amat girls teams, however, he is the athletic director over at Charter oak.

My my, what a story line this week for so many people in this valley eh ?

So, for all these people, what side lines do they sit on ? Do they take turns going from one end to the other after half time ?

Once, when Amat played West Covina at Kiefer, I remember a lady who sat amongst many of her friends and RELATIVES on the Amat side of the field during the game. She was wearing a West Covina football tee shirt !

    Too funny !!

  • AMAT 73

    Come on Jcaz,
This is no time for feel good warm and cozy stories. It’s battle time and at lease throw some fuel on the fire . Like they are all going to sit on the CO side because there will be empty seats there after the first quarter . Show me something . Also I don’t think Wiard is the AD at this time , read somewhere it is now Farrar.

  • Better Game

@Amat 73: Servite’s resources earned them a Pac5 and STATE Championship just two years ago…end of that argument. As for the empire known as MD basketball, mark my word: Derrick Taylor will whip the aging behind of Gary McKnight within two years. While that’s going on, Amat will still be losing those ‘heartbreak’ football playoff games to the better-funded teams, and the Lancer basketball team will still struggle to keep its head above shallow water.

  • SGV football

    @jcaz

Oh your talking about Ross Barrera. He was not a great impact player at amat. Both him and his family made the decision to transfer him to CO. Why you ask? I’ve heard it was because if issues with coach hags. But then again he wasn’t going to get any snaps behind center this year, so maybe that was the motive. Both him and Hauser wanted everything given to them and they found out the hard way that they would have to work for it. They didn’t like that and left. Simple as that.

Tonight they will find out they should’ve stood at amat and worked a little harder instead of going to co.

  • AMAT 73

    better game,
I think you miss took my Servite reference. I know they have the resources and what was meant was ask them about our resources since we did whip them earlier this year. So in regards to your reply are you insinuating they no longer have the resources because the can’t compete with the Trinity LANCERS (in your opinion ) took it to them ???? By the way Servite vs SJB , who you taking , without the gun to your head of course.

  • Yo Yo Stop It

So Stop It – how far did Chino Hills BOW?

That’s what I thought – part I — Tie no blood and no bowing.

    Tonight — Part II —- ???

You looking for someone to bow down in front of you, better hang in a different neighborhood, ain’t gonna happen on Covina Blvd tonight baby !

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    jcaz,

to answer your question about “where will the rest of the SGV sit?” … I would say “wherever they can find a seat.”

  • Coach Bear Byrant

Jcaz, Where does a 800 pound gorilla sit? Any where he wants!

  • jcaz

73, i’ve kinda wanted to stay away from trash talking this week even though this game is perhaps the biggest game of the year for both Amat and Charter Oak

I guess the reason is that there are so many good friends who’s kids I know that attend Charter oak. Frankly, I truly respect everything about those folks over there, starting for their head coach who I believe to be real stand up kind of guy.

Still, as a Lancer, I cant lie to you. I really want Amat to kick the (as you like to say) the “Shiat” out of the Chargers, if only because I want non-sense (who is a Charter Oak guy BTW) to finally eat crow.

    That’s the only reason actually….

Having said that, I truly do miss “Charter Oak Fan.” He hasn’t been on this blog in quite a while and I really did love all of his input during all of the last few years, especially when he and Joe were going at it.

    Remember all that ?

Oh, and one last thing 73, do you remember my story long ago about my neighbors Chihuahua’s ? Well, the chain link fence separating them from the big dogs comes down tonight, so, we will see if their bark is really as big as their bite.

Or……if nothing else, then we just might be enjoying ourselves a delicious piece of “humble pie” later this evening eh 73 ?

  • Frank

    Amat 54- Charter Oak 7

  • Bob Anon

    Amat 49, CO 3

  • AMAT 73

    Jcaz,
Speaking of that fool isn’t it strange that the biggest game for these teams and he is under a rock somewhere in the foothills of the SGV. I hear you on the friends so I accept that but at least I know your true feelings . By the way we got the slime next week so it’s on again only nastier but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Hope they have the Whittier blog ready by then . It is strange many of the CO honks are AWOL especially for this week . CO Bro , COCF ,and others but JA did his thing earlier this week on another thread and summed it up as, he sees no reason why the outcome of this game should be different than the last two . Well hope you find a seat , even if it means sitting with your friends on the CO side . As I said earlier , you might be by yourself before nights end . The way I’ve been going at it I would have to eat 2 or 3 pies !!!!

    ————————————————-
Bad argument my friend. If Amat and CH played to a tie, the results of an Amat vs Tesoro game would THEORETICALLY mirror the CH vs Tesoro score (picture common opponent).

Amat’s defense possibly needs a bit of shoring up. I’m not so sure that’s because of the fact that they have a number of players going both ways, which could play into CO’s no huddle offense. Then again maybe not, since my understanding is that Amat doesn’t use many subs to begin with.

With 2 quality teams, I’d be really surprised if this game was a blow out on either side.

  • Dan

I also saw the Charter Oak vs Los Alamitos video last night, injuries or not CO looks like the real deal and will be no walk in the park for Amat. I don’t think the Los Al injuries were much of a factor in that game because Los Alamitos has 101 kids on their roster, with all those kids you know they have capable, quality kids waiting in the wings for their chance to shine. Los Alamitos is still a football school, even though their league was dropped to the Southwest. They and Edison are still legit Pac 5 caliber teams although this year I think they would fall into the lower middle sector of the Pac 5 if they were still there. Amat handles the run game very well, but I think the combination of CO’s O line and Aaron Vaughns [who looks sensational] will find some daylight and get a few scores. CO’s defense looks very good, sort of like the typical Amat defense. The difference in this game will be the QB’s. Kory Haynes will be the difference in this game for the Lancers, the CO qb’s look like they are struggling to get the ball to BoBo and company.
My guess is Amat wins a tough game by 10 or less, but if CO pulls this out it won’t suprise me.

  • jcaz

73, there’s no question as to what side I’ll be sitting on this evening.

BTW, SGV football, that’s not who I was speaking of, but “IF IT WERE” then let me just say to you that it’s never cool to mention anyone names on the blog ok.

    Thanks

  • Hacienda League

Cant wait to see Los Altos’ DE Joey Franco and the rest of their pass rushing D Line tonight vs Chino

  • Joe Amat

Freddy asked a day or so ago when Amats lone loss to Charter Oak was. Let’s just say Amat has never lost to the Chargers. I my memory serves me, they did however drop one to the Charter Oak “LANCERS”.

Yes, Charter Oak opened shortly after Bishop Amat and wanted to be SO like us they chose Blue and Gold as their colors and also called themselves the LANCERS. It wasn’t until they absorbed the additional students when Royal Oak closed did they become The Chargers (much like West Covina went from Spartans to Bulldogs when the absorbed Fred’s Edgewood Trojans.

FJR is doing such a good job posting a number of threads, our comments do get buried sometimes. Here is mine from a few days ago.

“As I’ve said at the beginning of every season of this blogs existence, Amat doesn’t schedule games where somehow the opponent can’t beat them. Obviously, this year is no different . The Lancers have to come to play – as I expect CO to.

If both teams come with their A game, I’d have to go with recent results. There is no reason to think that things will be any different than they have been the past decade vs the SGV – and that has resulted in only 1 loss in 25+ games. Of course, there has been that one loss, so it could happen – just unlikely based on numbers.

The last series vs the Chargers they faced the Lancers as the early season #1 with highly regarded D1 commit, Will Harris, and Amat came home with the win. No reason to think that won’t be the result again.”

Again, like Charles Barkley’s book: “I Could Be Wrong…But I Doubt It!”

  • San dimas dad

    Go San dimas beat Monrovia

  • Close but no cigar

If this was last year I would give CO the edge, but this year I would have to say that Amat would have the nod.
For the record I hate the Amat honks but I have to give them credit as being tied for the best in the SGVN this year.

  • 1st and Goal

AMAT bleachers are still full. But I see plenty of seats on the CO bleachers. Maybe I can find somewhere to sit now. Lol

  • Poor Glendora

Glendora you will go no where until you learn to wrap guys up. If you think ou have problems now wait till to get to Baseline play. But come on guys you blew tackles for losses like crazyand let them go for big gain.I have never seen anything like it pretty sad.
Your o-line is solid and suprised the crap out of me. They blew Ayala off the line mostly all night.
And you better find a guy that can pass instead of those ducks that guy was throwing. Because that was open season with those whoppers. What was that.

  • sgv

HOLLY MOLLY WHAT A SHOOT OUT AT CITRUS!!!! ALL I CAN SAY IS WoW.

  • LOL

I love watching Aram sitting there with his mouth open twirling a pen!!!

  • Just saying

Monrovia and Glendora should and could beat Ayala on any giving night. Ayala got breaks both nights.

  • Pismo

Is it me, or do Aram’s arms look like giant turkey legs you buy at any fair?

  • Is this true

I don’t know if Maxpreps got this score backwards but they are showing La Serna beating Westlake 38-9

  • Game Time

Wow what a sloppy dirty grinding game. Those officials should be hung from their heals and flogged. This to me has got to be the most inept, incompetent officiating in the history of HS football. I think the refs cheated Amat out of a convincing lop sided defeat for CO.

Wow, I’m no Amat Honk, just a football fan, but I also must say I was very disappointed with
CO’s lack of good sportsmanship, cheap shots, piling on, punching players when they are down. I really believe CO deliberately took a cheap shot at Andrew’s to provoke him to fight, and it worked. Wow if you can’t beat a good team, try to take out their best player out of the game, Soprano style! Also why was the CO kicker directed to kick the ball directly to Andrews, when they know he is a dangerous runner? They kicked the ball directly to him, to take him out of the game early!

I’ve got a new name for CO….Cheaters Choke!!

Amat hands down is the better team, this game could have gotten ugly real quick, but the Refs poor officiating, stalled any momentum Amat had.

This game without all the crazy penalties, would have Amat scoring on at least 3 or 4 momentum drives with the score easily in the 50′s for Amat. Just the facts!

  • Tried and True Amat over 20 Years

    Aram,

Listening to your argument with Fred I disagree that doubt seeps in. We do not doubt the quality of ball and level the that is played is proven by the division. Division 1 stands alone.

I think as time goes on “hope” seeps in and an argument for everyone. It is what keeps your blogs alive.

As for one who has been a Charter Oak Alum but an Amat fan… there is no doubt.

Thanks for always coming up with the devil’s advocate’s position to keep the blog going.

Deep down inside you truly do know that “Amat is by far better though and through.”

  • Pismo

Steve, your looking a little too much like Waldo. It’s a good look though!

  • From the sidelines

Loved driving by COs In n out. Blowing the horn with some amat cheers. Poorsports, we r the big dog, as CH, overtime and a w. No overtime only gave em false hope. Here we go Amat. Wooo woop. Night night in the Sgv.

  • Lancelot

Wow, wasn’t there some concern over the San Marino program recently? They look to be doing ok, at least they were tonight! Who’s the head coach over there now?

  • How’s that D line tonight Hac League?

Hacienda League, we were wondering if u were going to update us on Franco and that L Altos D Line tonight against Chino, any news to share??

  • BA stands for ??

CO: the USC fight song, really? That’s reserved for winners.

  • 12th man

    Charter Joke!!
Disappointed In Charter Oak!! Poor Sportsmanship from the players to the Coaches!! No Discipline…I’m almost inclined to believe that the scuffle that took place right before halftime was a designed play…Just like in baseball when the loosing team intentionally hits your best player with a pitch!..Wow!!

Worst officiating ever in the history of High School Football!! Are you serious?? Could the refs have made it more obvious..They took Amat out of the Red Zone at least 4 times on bogus calls…This game should of been a blow-out 56-14..The home cook refs kept Charter Oak in it as much as they could!..The all mighty CO defense folded early & never regained momentum..At this point I believe La Mirada is a much better team than CO & CH..All I know is that CO is in trouble this year in the Sierra..

  • huskie fan

They are not KINGS you lil elf fred they tied us on a bogus call so shut up your nothing but a fan of Amat watch how bad we beat CO Fred your nothing but a bias little guy who knows nothing about football all you know is Amat. Amat got luck from the refs for thart catch if not for that catch Amat would be licking our boots SHUT UP FRED calling them lower tier pac5 team kings when they couldnt even beat a rebuilding CH team…………

  • DBar Pop

Interesting game tonight! DBar lost, nothing new there…down 31-0 at half, nothing new there…but they played their asses off the second half and actually had a chance with 7 minutes left but just couldn’t finish. Observations from the crowd….DBar coaches are all young and energetic..a good thing…they coach the game like they’re playing Madden 2012, a bad thing…fourth game of the year and they have tried at least 15 onside kicks..10 pooch kicks and kicked it deep twice (inside the five both times). They need a veteran as an assistant coach to teach discipline and focus to the staff…game planning, clock control and when to go for two (not down 31-0, we tried two pointers after each of the three touchdowns, converting none). Eh, can’t say they like the AD being an assistant coach either. Speed was suppossed to be our savior and we are fast…but we’re finding out so is everybody else and their fast guys are four inches taller and forty pounds heavier…lol… Brea is a good solid, talented football team that is well coach. They could be a great model for us.

  • huskie fan

Then you loser say poor sportsmanship well you dummies it takes two to tangle so look in the mirror, i cant wait until we play you losers again or play against someone like Tesoro or Alemany in the pac5 playoffs or league game Amat sucks thats the bottom line NOOOOOOOOOOOOOT SINCE 1995

  • Streaker rules

CO should recruit that streaker, he was fast and very athletic.

  • Better Game

Did anyone happen to hear that Bosco beat Loyola 45-0? This was the game that would tell us if Bosco’s lopsided wins were legit.

How do you think Amat would do against the Braves? This is the reason I was underwhelmed by the big valley match and preferred the action at Frank Ribotta Field. Teams like Bosco and Santa Margarita will be the ones to do the yearly deed of bouncing Amat from the playoffs.

But don’t let this keep you from your drunken celebrations.

  • God

    @12th man
In case you forgot, Amat didn’t beat CH. Also, Tesoro is leaps and bounds better then Amat. If Amat where to play Tesoro I would say Tesoro beats them by at least 30 points

  • 12th man

Love it!! When they play the what if card!!!!! I bet you if Amat played the Green Bay Packers or the San Francisco 49ers they would lose!!lol…Oh! & by 30 points!!! ..Tesoro beat you son!!So What!! Man up!!

  • The Game

You sound like you’ve had a few “pops” yourself there better game. You’re actually taking the time to come on here and talk smack about a game that involved you in no way. Enjoy your victory and hope the run stays strong. Start popping off to to the smchs guy about how good you are and how you can play a “Better Game” with them. Let us lowly SGV guys enjoy ourselves.

  • Lancelot

How about some credit for Amat’s kicker, Edward Mancilla. The kid was nails tonight! Hopefully he is getting some recognition because he has got a “Boot”! Great Job #84 I’m sure Coach Hag’s sleeps a little better knowing that he can count on you for a long field goal to win a game if needed!

  • AyalaBulldogFan

    @ Just Saying,

We still have a LONG way to go to get where we need to be, but we’re improving each week. If we played you again, I think we could probably put between a FG and a TD between us. No offense, you played great against us, you have played better since but so have we and you’re probably in better shape now but we are in better shape than you, bottom line, we’d still beat you. Just admit it.

Glendora… sheesh those linemen are big. I’ll bet they had at least 30-40 pounds on our guys easy. They were physical, they imposed their will on us often. Our D stepped up on a couple of their posessions and stopped ‘em in the red zone or goal line.

A couple picks by our Junior QB… one run back for a TD on bad play calling by the OC. Went to the well once too often eh coach? Go to school on that, hats off to the player making that read. He saw it and went after it. Good on him! We need to get better at mixing it up. We committed some awful penalties that ended up giving Glendora opportunities to score. That’s poor discipline and we can’t afford to just give away yards like that. The personal fouls HAVE to stop. That’s a few games we’ve committed them now. We just can’t be doing that. Like I said earlier, we have a long way to go to where we neeed to be to even think about competing for one of the 3 playoff spots in the Sierra League. LONG, LONG way to go.

Two weeks to get ready for Kaiser. Man, are we going to have our hands full with that game. They are ever better than Glendora. It does not get any easier for us. Fortunately we improve in areas each game. Let’s keep it rolling Bulldogs!

  • SGV Athlete

Nomination for Valley Player of the Week:

Aaron Sanchez, RB/LB, Gladstone-16 Carries, 95 Yards, 5 TDs, 5-6 2pt Conversions (lost count), and was part of the gang tackle to seal the win in triple OT over El Monte.

El Monte played an excellent game, that offense is POTENT! #3 Brandon Martinez is an outstanding player and the entire El Monte team (Coaches and Players) were a true class act.

Great job kid, you looked poised, confident and showed your leadership skills on the field. Your getting better with each game and Amat is lucky to finally have a top-rated, consistent, producing QB. You are the real deal.

  • Dan

    Eating crow,
Great game Chino Hills, You and Amat are the big boys of the SGV. Back to the drawing board
    for WC.

  • Greetings from La Puente

What do you get when you have 7000 football fans at Charger Stadium on a hot & humid Friday night? You get an illiterate public announcer who pronounces the name Koa, KAO and 3000 people walking home sadly because their home team lost.

  • LA Fan

Was at the Los Altos game last night and was dissapointed at the lose. It could have easily been a closer game if it wasnt for two missed tackles that lead to scores. The offense was horrible, the o line looked like they just gave up. they need to toughen up and show some pride because league is not going to be easy. After this game they arent favorites to win league but they will need to improve offensively if they even want to make the playoffs

  • foootbaalll time!!!!!

La Serna!!! Wow they beat Westlake and by a lot. The southeast division is not West Covina’s anymore, i think its a three horse race between La Serna, La Mirada, and West Covina. But what a great win by La Serna

  • sgv shot caller

Great game amat. You proved that you are the better team

  • Dan

    To foootbaall time!!!
West Covina has much work to do before they can
be in the same discussion as La Mirada and La Serna, looks like we are also down one more runningback as Love got hurt.
Eating my crow for now, not much I can say for our Bulldogs except don’t give up, get back to practice and put in the work. Great game Chino Hills.
By the way that La Serna score is no typo error, the Lancers really did beat Westlake and it wasn’t even close, score was 38 to 9. Some people thought their coach was nuts for scheduleing Westlake and Norco, especially after the beating they took in the CIF title game, but when you slay a giant like they did last night it can really be a boost for the program. I bet their fans are loving it now. I’m curious to see how La Serna does against Norco next week.

This is the same CIF champ Westlake who was in the state finals game against De La Salle last year.
La Serna, who is 4 nd 0 looks like they really went to work in the offseason, great job to the Lancers from over the hill.

  • Football follower

The problem with officiating this year stems from the NFL, all the good refs were pulled up, wait they are horrible also. Hahaha. I have seen about 6games this year and it is the worse I have seen in many years. The question I have is does CIF review film of these games and do anything to improve the officiating. Yes the officiating killed AMAT on really piling it on but it also killed them in CH.

  • Cong ’76

Eerily similar to last years game vs. Walnut, an undefeated Conqueror team seemed to think, based on there past three games, The Chino Cowboys, (like the Mustang’s last year), were going to lay down. Chino’s offensine line allowed their back to fight for several long gains including two touchdown runs. The Cowboy’s defensive line also controlled the line of scrimmage. But worse than that, there were know adjustments made when in became apparent that the pistol was mis-firing. LA’s backs were getting bounced back with each effort to plunge head-long between the tackles and no play action was implemented.

Love what Coach Ziola has done, but maybe just a little more imagination when plan A is not working.

  • 84-21

@Football Time: What a great La Serna win! Does this mean the Lancers don’t need to play the remainder of their season, and can just wait to see who they play in the finals? Maybe you can work this deal with the same CIF guys who approved Cal High field.

Try to use Pioneer stadium this time; it has the same generous seating and parking, but a much better field because the Titans only play a make-believe type of football there.

  • Fred Robledo

You have to ask, who’s No. 1 in Whittier, La Serna or La Mirada … To me, La Serna deserves the No. 1 ranking and No. 1 ranking in the Southeast. They might even be Aram’s No. 2 in all encompassing. Beating Westlake — no humiliating Westlake is not just the area’s biggest surprise by far, you can argue the win over Westlake was even bigger than Amat’s win over Servite … BTW, Servite lost to Edison, 6-0, to fall to 1-2. I’m still trying to figure out how La Serna sneaks past Bonita and crushes Westlake. This is the same team that gave up 84 in a title game, right? Unbelievable.

  • 84-21

Is Fred willing to bet his HOUSE and his JOB on La Serna beating La Mirada? Probably not; this is just hot air. Westlake is not the exact same team it was last season, nor is La Serna. La Mirada has shown its worth in several impressive wins thus far, and that’s why Robledo won’t bet his house on his mouth.

  • Frank

I called this game a blow out, before the game on Friday. I predicted a score of 54-7 and I would of been pretty close if it was not for poor offciating. If Amat gets their First Td, and they get td’s instead of field goals. The score would be 49-7. Also keep in mind CO 2nd td, was after they fumbled a punt Amat recoverd, and the officials gave the ball back to Co, pretty sad.
This weeks build up reminded me of a boxing match when one opponent is the Heavy Weight champ. And the other a lower level fighter. Media will blow the other guy up, to make you think its going to be a match, but instead he gets knocked out first round. Its all about hype and getting people interested.
I said before it was funny how Aram and Fred had CH ranked 2nd the week they played Amat. The week CO plays Amat there ranked 2nd. As I said before Ch record of 1-1-1 is more impressive than Co 2-0.
CO like Monrovia, looks great against weak teams.
I guess we won’t hear from CO fans for a while. After you get beat next year, youlle get back on the blogs and start trash talking again.

  • Lancelot

Have to agree w/Frank on this one but What a great Job Fred and Aram did creating a Buzz and maintaining interest in this game. For the casual fan it was the game of “The Century” (sarcasm button not working a la Joe Amat). Hats off to you guys for doing your jobs and doing them well!!!
Great Job Lancers! Believe me, next week vs. St. Paul will not be the same. If you think that the St. Paul coach wasn’t watching the end of that game. think again. They are probably drawing up an aerial attack to end all aerial attacks with D. Andrews watching from the sidelines. Amat coaches need to counter…This game will be great from a rivalry standpoint without the Hype. Go Lancers, Go Amat!!!

Not a fan of either school just wanted to see a hyped up game. It showed that CO is not on the same level as Amat. I think CH will also beat CO. They were not impressive at all. Like every other level of football, the refs are horrible. That opening touchdown taken away was a joke.

@Frank: that second td that the refs said was CO’s ball actually was the right call (not that it mattered). The kid for Amat touched the ball first so there is nothing lost in trying to pick up the ball after that for the receiving team since you can not lose the ball regardless what happens.

No crap there I was on Tuesday asking my cousin how long this season would be, he assured me that we had a good team and that it was gonna take time. I said here’s hoping for sooner than later since we shouldn’t have lost to South Hills or La Serna.

Then I see the score of the Claremont game…yeah it’s Claremont, but they were coming off a win against Walnut, Collins being a good coach and Claremont also having more kids at least makes it a tougher match up when you have a rookie head coach and a younger team. But geeze did the Boys just hammer them or what?

This at least makes me feel great about going into league…but geeze what is going on in the WDN…La Serna going to Westlake Village and thumping the Warriors.

  • BULLDOG TIA

WCHS Bulldogs had a bad game last night. They had 5 turnovers & Chino Hills was able to score 35 of their points because of those 5 Bulldog turnovers! If WC hadn’t messed up all those times, I think we could have beaten Chino Hills because they really weren’t all that. Good quarterback, but that’s about it as far as last night went. Even though we lost to Chino Hills, I think Loyola was a much stronger team for WC…and NO I’M NOT MAD BECAUSE WC LOST. I’M MAD BECAUSE WC COULD HAVE WON IF IT WASN’T FOR ALL THOSE MISTAKES!

  • Frank

@ Joe, I guess I did not know that rule: So on a Punt if the punting team touches the ball the receiving team can then pick it up and run with it and even if they fumble it, it is not a fumble because they get a free pass on that play. I did not know how that was the rule, but I stand corrected if what you say is true.
@ Lancelot, I agree with you also. Aram and Fred did a great job!

  • If it’s ringing, answer it

#29 on Glendora got his bell RUNG last night by Ayala. Hope he’s ok. He was down for a good 30 sec. Long enough for an injury time out.

  • Bull$h!t Tia

You have got to be kidding! If the other team didn’t score so many points, we would have one. The IF argument or statement is about as absurd and retarded as any of the stuff that comes on this blog.

WC was dominated thoroughly and completely. Did you happen to think that maybe some of those turnovers were because CHHS was in the WCHS backfield all night long?

That was a dominant performance, pure and simple. You should have mentioned “if we didn’t have all the injuries we could have beaten Loyola and Chino Hills”

Face it, while it is admirable that Maggiore has scheduled some very big time games (loyola, CHHS, mater Dei I believe and several others over the years), the bull puppies are not ready to compete on that level against those types of teams.

Come playoff time, hopefully you guys will be healthy and win another D7 title, but please cease and desist with the “if” argument, it is weak.

    Amat 101:

    2004 – Amat 28 CO 0

    2005 – Amat 34 CO 7

2006 – “Amat sucks, CO is the best”

2007 – “CO is the number one in the SGV!”

2008 – “Amat is scared of CO, they don’t want us!”

2009 – “Wish we could play Amat, cuz we’ll beat them badly”

    2010 – “CO will whoop Amat’s Ass!”

2011 – “Amat is scared to play CO”

    2012 – Amat 30 CO 14 (should have been 50 plus to 14)

2013 – “Can we replace Amat with Keppel?”

2014 – “We don’t want no more Big Bad Bue!”

    Class dismissed!

  • Wacha talkin about Willis?

    BullDog Tia,

Hey Tia, go in the kitchen and get me a hot bowl of Menudo, cuz obviously you seem to be clueless of football. Bulldogs got their chonies handed to them, the pups are not ready to rumble with the big dogs like Mater Dei, Loyola, Amat and even Chino Hills. So put them pups back in the kennel and leave the big boy football to the big dogs!

    Bulldog Tia,

I know what you are trying to say about all the mistakes. But you have to give credit to Chino Hills for captializing on those mistakes, that’s what good teams do.

Loyola and Chino Hills deserve our respect because they earned it on the field. We just need to move on to league play and hope we can get healthy enough to put together another run. Our path to a 3rd straight Southeast Division title is definately not going to be easy. La Mirada and La Serna have experienced teams with the majority of their starters back from last season, they are far ahead of where we are now. And we may even have some trouble with our league opponents with the way we played on Friday. We absolutely need to cut down on these silly mistakes. Mistakes like fumbled exchanges between the QB and RB, offsides and false starts, dead ball personal foul calls and blown coverages in the secondary. Mistakes that get magnified when playing teams like Chino Hills and Loyola etc…

Hang in there Bulldogs! We still have the talent to make some noise, but we need to work on our poise!

DB Pop, you took the word right out of my mouth as I read your post. The energy is there, unfortunately the energy is displayed in all the wrong areas. My opinion, Coach R. Maine should evaluate himself and his entire staff weeding out those that are holding back the program. The friendly approach and favoritism has got to go. There were four little guys sitting behind me last night making fun of what appears to be their freshman coach. They were calling him a “WHINER” and said “Who wants to play for a coach that is complaining and crying the entire game. I wish they would coach us not cry”I hate it”
JV seems to be on track.
Play calling was better than I’ve seen in the past. Not so much Madden lol. Unfortunately the wrong plays called at the wrong time ending up in int’s. The speed is there just need to find the way to use it and yes the onside/pooch kicks are killing DB.
Hope for a good week of practice and more victories.
    Jack H

    @Bulldogs have bite
Thank you. Very well put. You understood what I was talking about because I take it you were at the WC Bulldogs game also?

  • Bulldogs have bite

    @BULLDOG TIA,

I attend all the games! I do however disagree with your assesment of Chino Hills. They are a really good program. BullSh!t Tia makes a very valid point. The Huskies were in our backfield all night disrupting and stuffing our run game, and pressuring, sacking and forcing our QB into very poor throws. To some degree, those turnovers were forced by them and some were mostly poor execution on our part. They deserve some credit! I was chatting with some of their fans before entering the stadium, some of the nicest, classiest and friendliest people I’ve ever met.

There is nothing we can do about our injuries. We can only fix the problems we have in our execution and dicipline with the players we do have suited up. A lot of the issues may stem from the youth and inexperience of our team this year, but I’m sure Maggiore will order up some extra sprints in practice this week to remind the team of the consequences of their mental breakdowns.

Simko is a really good QB! But man was it embarrassing watching him plod his way into the endzone on the play action bootleg! I thought I was watching a slow motion replay as it was happening lol!

WC will have lots of work to be done before we can even consider hanging a third straight banner. If we can fix our boneheaded pentalties, clean up the execution on basic stuff like the QB to RB exchanges that we have been fumbling lately, and the blown coverages that lead to wide open long scoring passes, we should be able to contend for a playoff birth as we also get healthy!

  • AMAT 73

Congratulations to all the teams win or lose of the SGV on Friday night and hope all escaped realitively injury free.
How about those LANCERS. The game was never in question , never !!!! The Trib staff did a great job of pumping this game up but then came kickoff and that set the tone for the night . Runback for a TD and then it started raining flags of which the refs were just getting warmed up . Didn’t matter if it was 11 or 15 on 11, AMAT would not be denied. Saw at least 2-3 holds on CO’s long TD but that’a the way it goes. Then the onslaught of 30 straight points was a hell of a statement. Koa was a bit off and did not have his best stuff on display .The AMAT defense was there all night long . I will say this , it was a bit strange to see the CO stands pretty empty by the 4th quarter , and although strange it was a beautiful sight to see. Well that one’s over and know on to the slime .

    Amat 73,
Enjoy your season, your boys in blue have been playing some lights out ball and once again have proven that it’s a little different when you step on the field with a legit Pac 5 team.

  • BraveDad

    @ Better Game,

Hey man don’t get us involved in all this SGV banter and BS. We are focused on Jordan High of Sandy Utah and then Trinity League play. When playoff time comes we will worry about the rest of the Pac5, until then Amat and all other teams are irrelevant.
