Girls Volleyball Rankings: Chino Hills take top spot after St. Lucy’s humbled in Durango tourney

1. Chino Hills (6-2) — Went a respectable 4-2 in the Los Osos tournament to take over the top spot
2. St. Lucy’s (6-5) — Roughed up at Durango Tournament, losing five of six, including a loss to Long Beach Poly. But hey, looks like they faced some pretty-tough company. They host La Salle in a rematch of last year’s Division 2-A title game Wednesday.
3. Ayala (2-1) — Wins over Glendora and Upland, then a five-set loss at Santiago
4. Bishop Amat (4-1) — Big wins over La Habra, La Serna and an understandable loss to Matin Luther King
5. Diamond Ranch (6-2) — Off to quick 6-0 start, then lost its last two.
6. Northview (8-2) — Continues to win, impressive 6-0 against area teams.
7. Rosemead (5-1) — Always tough in MVL. They got a sweep over Sierra Vista and only loss to powerful South Pasadena.
8. Claremont (2-2) — Big loss at La Salle, not nothing to feel terrible about.
9. San Dimas (2-1) — Starting to come around, nice wins over Alverno and La Puente.
10. South Hills (4-2) — Winners of four straight, including win over Bonita.

Come on Fred? You put CH above SL because they were “roughed up at the Durango Tournament”? You do realize that this is an invite only national tournament that no other team in the valley would even be qualified to attend? Even if they did lose that many matches, still tougher competition than LO tournament. That’s weak!

I don’t know of any team in the history of rankings that would lose five games in one week and keep their top spot. It is what it is.

  • Are there other teams?

Fred, you really have an Amat fixation. 90% of football pictures you use are of Amat. Now volleyball too. Get help!

You have to consider the competition. They still finished in the top 16 of the tournament. That is HUGE! Anyone can play weak teams and win games. Speaking of Amat, you still kept them #1 in the valley in football after they lost to Servite. Unless someone in the valley beats SL, they should stay at #1. All the Durango tournament shows is that they are not #1 in the NATION!
