Unbeaten Gladstone High School started slow but got its act together to beat Bassett 44-22 on Thursday night in a Montview League football game at Citrus College.

The Olympians’ defense started the game strong as it forced the Gladiators into intentionally grounding the ball in the end zone, resulting in a safety.

After the ensuing free kick, Bassett quarterback Nicolas Colmenero hit Jamel Greenfield on a 13-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 9-0.

The Gladiators’ offense didn’t take long to respond as it took three plays to drive 65 yards, scoring on a 55-yard pass from Kevin Amezquita to Sergio Torres.
