Tribskin Pick’em: Write it down, Bishop Amat will beat Alemany, Gladstone over Duarte, Bonita over West Covina and Charter Oak over South Hills

You want Alemany, you’ve got Alemany. What’s Bishop Amat going to do?

62569-andrews.jpg

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season for our annual dinner bet.

Last Week: Robledo (13-4); Tolegian (13-4).
Season: Robledo (99-47); Tolegian (97-49).

Last Week:: We cancelled each other out and each had four losses. Aram and I both missed taking Damien over Ayala and Los Altos over Rowland. My other two losses were taking Chino Hills over Charter Oak and South El Monte over Rosemead. But I got Aram back with his misses, taking Pomona over Wilson and Mountain View over Gabrielino.

This week:: After saying I wouldn’t do it, I did it. I’m taking Bishop Amat over Alemany at Alemany. Something about Alemany struggling to put away Notre Dame before escaping with a 49-42 win in the final minute combined with how bad Amat wants this game after what happened the last two years has led to this. Plus, with an extra week off, if not now then when? I also struggled taking Gladstone over Duarte. The Gladiators have flirted with losing since dominating La Puente in the league opener. But I think they’ll get the wake-up call and take care of the Falcons on Friday. South Hills and Charter Oak looks great on paper. Both 5-1 and bitter rivals. But in reality, it’s Charter Oak by at least two touchdowns, maybe three. Ayala’s been great and looked great last week, but Chino Hills will take care of business after laying an egg against Charter Oak. Oh yeah, the biggie in the Hacienda. I’m going with Bonita over West Covina. The Bulldogs’ two-year reign was dented in a loss at home to Los Altos, now Bonita will take care of the rest.

    @ Alemany,

    WARRIORS…..COME OUT AND PLAYYYY
    WAAARRIORRRSSS….COME OUT AND PLAAAAYYYYYY.

This is the week AMAT has been waiting for. Time to get down to business and make some noise.

  • 12th man

After watching the Alemany/Notre Dame game..I think Amat has a really good shot of beating Alemany..The Warriors defense was exposed vs ND & allowed 42 points could have been more if not for some dropped passes & A couple of turnovers… The Alemany QB is legit! Is he better than Koa Haynes?..I thing Koa holds a slight edge Athletically & mental wise..The real test will be with the Lancers secondary…Can they shut down the Warrior receivers who hold an advantage on height..

Will give you more updates as the week progresses..I hear there might be some key injuries on the Warrior side..but to assume anything this early would be pre-mature & strictly speculation..

Oh! One last thing! You don’t think that Alemany “D” is suspect? They haven’t allowed 42 points to no one in the past 10 years..& perhaps longer but Maxpreps would only allow me to go as far back 2003 season…So either Notre Dame is the best offensively team they have ever played or Alemany mite be in over there heads when it comes to a defensive scheme…

  • Colt74
  • 12th man

Correction! Notre Dame beat them in 2008 44-17..Looks like the Warriors have a history of giving up big points to “ND”

  • Serra 2012

Can’t help but be uneasy with Amat coming off of a bye week though. Some of their big losses in the Hagerty era, if my memory serves me, have come after a bye week. Really don’t feel this works in their favor and won’t be surprised if they come out sluggish instead of fired up and then have to play catch up against a good Alemany team.

Also, Alemany v. Notre Dame is a very different match up then Alemany and Amat. I don’t expect to see such high scores in the game this week.

  • Joe Amat

    2012,

for what it’s worth, the only game Amat has lost after a bye week during the Hagerty era is a 17-6 loss to Loyola in his first year.

  • AMAT 73

Caught the ND vs alemany game on Friday . Man alemany’s defense looked slow and not up to par with their offense . ND drove on them and scored rather easy . It was just a matter of who had the ball last in that game . Dunn was impressive but can be controlled , not enough discipline by the ND defense in staying in their assigned area to stop Dunn when he took off . Our defense will bring their A game and we will get the W on Friday night as I know our offense will be firing on all cyliders. They are over due for a breakout game . The bye week will not effect this team other than giving them that much more time to prepare and realize it’s time to take care of business .
    warrior fan ,
This is the week for your lips to be flapping on the blog and like 1st and Goal wrote, COME OUT ,COME OUT wherever you are, COME OUT AND PLAY ,CAN YOU DIG IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Falcon Fan1

    Gladstone over duarte huh?
    That’s fine with us!
I love being the team that’s voted to lose… let’s see if that duarte defense will like Gladstone to win as well!

  • The Chef

    @Joe Amat

You must be slipping a little Mr. Factoid. How can you forget 2010… When Amat lost to Alemany (38-30)on November 12 after a November 5 (Week 9) bye. I believe that was also the year that Amat was undefeated (9-0) until they played Alemany. Shortly thereafter Amat went to 8-2 Tesoro for the 1st round of the PAC5 playoffs and lost (31-21).

America’s Top 5 Toughest Football Leagues

    1. Big North United
St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) 3-1, No. 1 in state, 7 nationally
Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) 3-1, No. 2 in state, 9 nationally
Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) 3-1, No. 3 in state, 13 nationally
Paramus Catholic (Paramus, N.J.) 4-0, No. 5 in state, 173 nationally
DePaul (Wayne, N.J.) 1-3, No. 22 in state, 1,172 nationally

Notes: The league is a New Jersey juggernaut with the top three teams in the state and four of the top five. You’ll also find three of the top 13 teams in the country in the Big North United, which moves up from the No.5 spot it held in 2010, when it was known as Big North I.

    2. Trinity League
Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) 5-0, No. 1 in state, 3 nationally
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 1-4, No. 3 in state, 15 nationally
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) 4-1, No. 7 in state, 40 nationally
Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) 2-3, No. 29 in state, 171 nationally
Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 5-0, No. 50 in state, 343 nationally
JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) 5-0, No. 70 in state, 609 nationally

Notes: Consider that the lowest-ranked team in the league, JSerra Catholic, is undefeated at 5-0. Also consider that the team with the worst record, St. John Bosco (1-4 with four forfeit losses) is ranked No. 15 in the nation. Three of California’s top seven teams are in the league.

    3. Greater Catholic League South
Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 5-1, No. 3 in state, 22 nationally
St. Xavier (Cincinnati) 4-2, No. 4 in state, 30 nationally
Elder (Cincinnati) 3-3, No. 16 in state, 157 nationally
La Salle (Cincinnati) 4-2, No. 24 in state, 349 nationally

Notes: The Greater Catholic South drops from its No. 1 perch from 2010 when it had every team in the league ranked among the Top 20 in the state. It still has an impressive resume with two of Ohio’s top four teams.

    4. Serra League
Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) 5-0-1, No. 11 in state, 48 nationally
Crespi (Encino, Calif.) 6-0, No. 12 in state, 52 nationally
Alemany (Mission Hills, Calif.) 5-1, No. 22 in state, 132 nationally
Loyola (Los Angeles) 6-0, No. 23 in state, 148 nationally
Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) 4-2, No. 36 in state, 220 nationally

Notes: The No. 9 league in 2010, the Serra League has just three losses among its five teams and has all five of its members ranked in the Top 36 in California.

    5. South Coast League
Mission Viejo (Calif.) 6-0, No. 8 in state, 41 nationally
Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) 5-0, No. 9 in state, 42 nationally
El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.) 6-0, No. 16 in state, 85 nationally
Trabuco Hills (Mission Viejo, Calif.) 4-2, No. 83 in state, 710 nationally
San Clemente (San Clemente, Calif.) 4-2, No. 101 in state, 851 nationally

Notes: This five-team league has only four losses on the season with three unbeatens. Two of the teams rank among the Top 10 in the state.

  • AMAT 73

    Jefe,
I believe that loss to Tesoro was at AMAT , you remember the famous wet field game . Which the consensous on the blog was we did it on purpose to stop their running game ?????????????????????? forgetting the fact that a slow wet field would hurt our run game more than theirs’ , and it did . At one time or another we all slip sometimes , don’t we Jefe ????????

  • Jefe

Close game but I think Alemany wins at home.

  • Serra 2012

    Jefe,

Alemany playing at home doesn’t mean anything. Here’s where Amat’s pre-league schedule this year comes into play. They DEFINITELY know about adversity at this point and also know what it is to play in a close game. By this point in the season that has not always been the case. Amat also travels well and with the excitement that has been generated this year among the fan base it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more Amat than Alemany fans at the game (often happens when visiting other schools with less tradition).

IF they come out and don’t start sluggish (per the bye week) I don’t even expect them to have a tough time with this Alemany team.

  • AMAT 73

Sorry Jefe I meant to address that post to chef but since I am addressing you , we will beat alemany this week no doubt .

  • Top Leagues

    So what…Win or go home…

  • The Chef

    @AMAT 73

I guess you answered you own question yes we all slip sometime… none more so than you…

  • Mean Green Pastures…

This is a must win for Either team. The further you slip in the standings the harder that first round game becomes in the Pac5. If you win league, your hosting a tough team at home, if you lose league, you could be on the road facing a top 5 team. The Pac five is wide open this year. With the injury to Stanton, the Eagles are no longer clear cut favorites. If Amat has a chance to win the Pac 5 it’s this year. No one has separated themselves. El Toro is a sleeper, so is St Bonnies even after the lost to Santa Margarita. BA is also the biggest sleeper. I am not saying people don’t know, but Well they don’t know…lol. This could be a big year for the SGV…If BA can go Semis or better, If Charter Oak, can go Semis or better, if La Mirada can Win the south east, if Mtown beats Sierra Canyon or Paraclete, If Rio Hondo prep can win it again, and if La Salle is a good as they are looking, We could be looking at three to four section titles. We beat each other up but it’s always good to see the SGV in the mix at all levels.

  • TheRealAyalaBulldogFan

I like being the underdog too. No pressure on us. I just hope we can keep it respectable.

  • Joe Amat

    Cheffy,

Right you are. Did not look for those late season byes. In all fairness, Amat was pretty sluggish in the first Diamond Ranch win also, which was after a bye week.

  • Frank

Agree with Fred, Amat is going to win this week, maybe maxpreps knows something. Alameny may of won the last two years but each game was really close. I would say Amat has the better team and hungrier team this year.
Green pastures said it would be nice to see 4 titles out of the SGV this year. It definitely would!

  • Serra 2012

Green Pastures also has it right on El Toro being a sleeper. Might be crazy, but the way I see it, Mater Dei is beating Santa Margarita this week and El Toro is beating Tesoro. With Amat’s win over Alemany, the Pac 5 is going to get fun. The tie with CH may have been the best thing to happen to Amat all season- no one is Realy going to see them coming b/c of the imperfect record and subpar ranking.

  • http://rgd2626 rgd2626

    Joe,
It all starts at the top. If you remember and im sure you do,Hags said in an interview he does not like weeks off because he has a hard time keeping his teams ready.I know that surprised the heck out of me, and it must of you and your faithful also.
Nice season so far, keep it up.
If there is anything this season shows it’s that Amat has been the number 1 team in the valley since 2004 at least. And then Charter Oak, West Covina and South hills
have been fighting for that number 2 slot.

  • Joe Amat

    R2,

Thanks. One week at a time and now it gets really crazy. I do agree about starting at the top, and it seems as though that routine has been such a big deal at Amat that this creeps into our preparation when the “routine” is broken.

If you remember all those years in the 80s & 90s when many bloggers here remember us as being “dominant” in the valley, but we had far too many 2nd Round exits (as Serra 2012 mentioned). “Black Friday” had a way different meaning back then for the Lancers due to the mindset that the day off broke their routine.

Certainly something the Lancers are going to have to overcome if they intend to advance deep into the playoffs again.

…and how ’bout that Hacienda League. Very unpredictable.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/tribpreps/2012/10/tribskin-pickem-2.html THE MAN FROM U

How about some love for the “u” after kicking the Charter Oak around last year– No one popping off— 18-1 run since beginning of last season. How is Glendora going to do from the mighty SGV? I just love rattling all you guys and the cages you all live in…….. U High baby— as in UPLAND. Lets get ready to rumble SGV—-

  • 12th man

“Hold up wait a minute let us put some BOOM in it!!”..Slow down..It should be one game at a time…Amat does stand a chance to reach the playoffs..but guess what? they stand a chance every year!!..If the top 4 teams in the pac5 somehow don’t make the playoffs or get knocked out of the playoffs..It could very well be Amat’s year to make some noise..These are the teams that stand in Amat’s way…(1)St.John Bosco,(2)Mission Viejo(3)St.Bonaventure(4)Mater Dei…Not to mention anyone from the Trinity,Serra,& the South coast League…Amat looks good..Do they look unbeatable like some of the other powerhouses from the pack5? Absolutely not!!..Like i said before..They’re about 2 key players short on defense from dominating the division & perhaps the pac5..I personally believe that Amat plays with a lot of heart & adrenaline..There’s just one problem with that..by the 9th or 10th week “Heart” can only get you so far especially if you’re playing both ways..It happened last year when Amat played Santa Margarita & the year before vs Tesoro..These OC teams are just to physically big & overwhelming they ware you down by the 3rd & 4th quarter..of course there’s other contributing factors but none more obvious than a team who has given it all it has & is completely empty on gas when it’s all said & done..When & if the La Times ever ranks Bishop Amat somewhere in the top 5..Then you know..They’re the real deal!! The Times is pretty accurate about placing teams weekly & analyzing their performance..(FYI)I’ve been following calpreps since week zero on projected matchups & I would say it’s been about 83% accurate on it’s predictions..Let’s see if it’s right one more time on Friday as it has Amat winning by three 31-28

  • Man from who cares….

Man from the U…you bring all that noise only to get blown out the next week…go to a Temecula newspaper Blog and Rattle Vista Murrieta’s cage…But you won’t do that because you have no intentions of winning the inland…Upland beat Charter oak last year…we get it…that was last year…Now move on to bigger and better things…

  • Count them again…

Fred, you both picked SV over LP last week. You both were wrong, very very wrong.

  • 12th man

(LA TIMES ARTICLE)Does Mission Hills Alemany football Coach Dean Herrington truly believe that “defense wins championships?”

“Of course we believe that,” he said Saturday morning.

Then how do the Warriors expect to win a Serra League championship after needing to score with 45 seconds left to pull out a 49-42 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Friday?”We’re pretty good on offense,” he said. “People are still going to have to stop us.”

Yes, Alemany (6-1) is still the Serra League favorite, thanks to quarterback Devon Dunn, receivers Steven Mitchell and Devin Ross and running back Deshone Randall.

Dunn passed for 282 yards and ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

But Alemany faces La Puente Bishop Amat (5-0-1) on Friday night and ends the regular season against Encino Crespi (7-0), and it remains to be seen whether the Warriors are going to be able to rely simply on outscoring teams in shootouts.

“We’ll get better on defense,” Herrington said.

Injuries forced Alemany to start four sophomores and five juniors on defense.

“Whenever you give up 42 points, you’re worried,” Herrington said. “But we know they’re correctable mistakes.”

As for the 5-foot-11 Dunn, who scored the winning touchdown on a four-yard run, Herrington said, “He was awesome.”

  • Colt74

I’m taking Alemany. At home. Calpreps predicts 35-31 ( neutral ) which means 33-31 at Alemany and that close is within margin of error.

    1. I want Bishop Amat to win
    2. History says it will not happen
    3. I want Bishop Amat to win
    4. Bye weeks are not a friend of Amat

2011 Lost to Santa Marijuana after bye week
2010 Lost to Alemany after bye week
    2009 No Bye week
2008 Beat Diamond Ranch after bye week
2007 Lost to Carson after bye week
2006 Lost to Carson after bye week
2005 Lost to St. John Bosco after bye week
2004 Lost to Loyola after bye week
2003 Lost to Santa Marijuana after bye week
    2002 No bye week

    5. I want Bishop Amat to win
    6. I was wrong picking Chino Hills against Charter Oak so could be wrong again. Still going with Alemany.

  • Warrior fan

I cant believe you fredj just the other day you said it yourself Alemany is going to win the game now you pick against us WOW. There is no way the little lancers are going to beat Alemany. athlete for athlete we’re better line play were better defense were much better i mean where is Amat even close to being better than us at. We have two not 1 but 2 division 1 WR’S, we have a 10 times better and more proven QB and a much better Line backer core than Amat, oh and by the way a MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER COACH THEN HAGERTY IN HARRINGTON. I cant wait until we POP Amat and when we do Fred your going to regret for making the Amat nation proud for picking them. Its truly official Fred you only do it for Amat fans just on your other thread you said it yourself Amat will not beat Alemany but now you chose against US.

    WHAT A JOKE.

  • Warrior fan

To all Amat fans i feel sorry for you all this week, this is the week you will weep and complain about why you lost the game or how you could of won the game but in reality its the same could of would of should of. LOL i cant wait, Alemany is best Serra league team period. Alemany will shine and when we do i guarantee you your going to be begging Fred to delete me or block me, i promise im going to be a thorn in your side even weeks after we beat you. I despise the boastful fans of Amat once we beat you guys this week i will be all over every blog for weeks reminding you that we are better than youll ever be.

  • don clankolero

This will decide what chonkwagon i jump on and sport ’round town

  • Real talk

Alemany is just a want to be Amat without the championships or the pro players that Amat has produced. We ready…. We ready…. Weee ready foo yaaaa.!!! Amat is going to put it in that so called great offence. Lol… Alemany QB meet Sal v …. Can’t wait.

  • Warrior fan

    Real talk

What are you talking about we’re no wannabe Amat we actually win games and makes the playoffs outright not by coin toss. And again stay in the 21st century Amat has no championships in the 21st century. Alemany colors are cardinal, gold and black, Amat is royal blue and gold we dont even look alike our school starts with an “A” so does yours our field is still grass, so is yours and as well as a few other schools who’s field is still grass and has an “A” on their helmet. So please explain to me how we’re trying to be like Amat when 1. we win playoff games Amat doesn’t. 2. we’re a different color then Amat 3. we’re better than Amat 4. return to 3.
Get real so called real talk just know after friday your name will change to “dumb talk”. We ready…. We ready…. Weee ready foo yaaaa.!!! LOL….HOW CORNY IS THAT HAHAHAHAHA

  • just askin’

wannabe warrior – you wrote “Amat has no championships in the 21st century”. What championships does Alemany have. In ANY century?

  • 1st and Goal

    WAAARRIORRRSSS….COME OUT AND PLAAAAYYYYYY.

You write like you need reassurance in reading your own words to feel that you will beat AMAT. Its not going to happen this year. Your self proclaimed “best Serra team” will go down. Like I ssaid before, the pressure is on you chump. You put that target on your back. We are coming to Mission Hills, taking care of business and enjoy our bus ride home. You on the other hand will be making excuses on why your mighty warriors just couldnt pull it out.

Good luck chump…your gonna need it.

  • Fred Robledo

Warrior I don’t talk smack, I just make predictions and feeling better about this one each day. I’ll be there with Mike the Cousin, come say hi on Friday.

  • AMAT 73

    warrior fan,
What did I tell you about ND . I bet you had to go home and change your chonies either because they were all wadded up or had a load in them . You can’t tell me you weren’t praying like a sinner at the pearly gates last Friday . You are right in one aspect, you are no wannabe, you are a never will as in never will win a D-1 title . Playoff wins are nice but until you hang a CIF banner in your gym “YOU AIN’T SHIAT ” . AMAT WILL SHINE THIS FRIDAY , NO DOUBT .

  • Real talk

Corny?? How corny does it sound about bragging about winning playoff games? Lol… win a championship then get at me. Alemany will shine? Where have I heard that before? Hahaha. It was fun Warrior fan, but this Friday it all comes to to a end. Like I said you will have to pull up a chair next to the Co, Servite, the powerful best team ever assembled St. Paul, and All the people that had said Amat would have at least 3 losses by now and enjoy your CROW. Hey there is always next year I’m sure all the haters will be back out its just that there mouth is full with all that crow they are eating.

  • AMAT 73

    Real Talk,
I missed that “alemany will shine” line by worrior fan ( name change due to the tone of his recent posts ) . And he has the stones to say that alemany is no wannabe . By the way worrier fan , since you are professing to be part of the SGV on Aram’s blog , where did you go to school to make you part of the SGV because we all know alemany is not in the SGV . Or are you a wannbe or a never was on that subject also . Say it loud and be proud unless you’re trying to hide something ???????

  • 1st and Goal

    @ AMAT 73

He is a transfer from the SGV. He has no alliance to any one school. He took his kid to Alemany so he wouldnt be on a losing team in his home area. Hell, for all we know his kid doesnt even start much less play. You never hear him boast of the “great” plays or accomplishments his kid has done for the team. This is a dad that is proud that the team his kid is on is doing well in the league they’re in. He’s thumping his chest more for the fact that he chose a good school and his is happy to be winning. HaHaHaHa…You chump.

  • Jefe

Wow Amat fans VERY confident about this game against Alemany.

If it happens to go Alemany’s way, I expect to see a lot of crow consumption here Friday night around 10PM.

  • Warrior fan

Im going to be laughing so hard at you amat fans come friday night its going to be and i repeat SO MUCH CROW BEING EATEN LIKE JEFE SAY BELOW I CANT WAIT. IM DONE ON THIS THREAD SEE YOU GUYS ON ANOTHER ILLBE HERE FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. Oh and i dont boast about my son i just let him do the boasting with his performance week in and week out.

  • Lance R

I don’t know why we continue to give this so called Warrior fan the tit for tat he he wants here on this blog. If he was truly a Warrior fan he would know his team, be proud to mention his kid and not get so carried away in here when it comes to Amat. My gut guess he is a poser and how come all of a sudden not since 1995 is no longer in here. Sounds like the same Amat hater. He is making up shiat that he belongs to Alemany when most of those Alemany fans over there do not act this way and knowing some of them personally are very good people just like our Amat fan base. As far as Fridays game very confident going in that we can and will get this win but in all due respect to Alemany they are a very well coached team they have talent just like we do so it will come down to the battle in the trenches as to who dominates the line of scrimmage. This will be a close one

    Amat 24
    Alemany 21

  • AMAT 73

    Jefe,
Of course we feel confident of our team , just as you are of SJB . IF and that’s a big IF we lose as I said before I will be one of the first to come on here and congratulate and say we got beat by the better team , plain and simple .
    LanceR,
As much as I hate to say it ,notsince would never run away from us, the AMAT faithful in the heat of discussions like this . This fool knows when he’s beat and like the little , well you know what , that he is he has to run and hide . I also see it close with AMAT coming out on top . They are a quality team with a solid program so we must bring our A game and not let up for a minute .

  • SGV FOOTBALL

Warrier Fan, I was hearing alot about your son! The coaches and players were praising his performance on the field. 40 time and arm strength!!!

I believe some of the comments were that they have never seen anyone run the water onto the field that quickly! Or they were impressed with his arm strength and how he launched those dirty towels into the towel bin.

Congrats on your sons play you fake a$$ warrier fan. You know too much about Fred’s writing habits to be new to the blog.

I hope you Amat fans know this chump has no ties to Alemany.

  • Another one bites the dust!!!

Think the Amat nation would like this. Heard through the grapevine that Asante was fired at St. Paul today? Wonder what’s gonna happen to all the kids he “attracted” not recruited??? What a joke St. Paul is. Pay attention Damien, cause that’s where you’re heading!
